  • I just purchased another Crafted Elements silicone mold. Before I start creating my hybrid wood and epoxy resin charcuterie boards, I need to create a template of the mold. A template is crucial as I need it to cut wood to fit the mold. This video shows you how to create your template. There's also some good, basic information about working with resin.

Thank you! Im thoroughly enjoying creating these videos! It reminds me of our 25 years of farming and homesteading, teaching others the things we learned from our successes and failures. The only difference is, this is through video as opposed to all the in person classes we taught. I do wish we had high speed internet then. You and I could have shared so much hard fought knowledge.

Derek, this is my favorite video of yours. I learned so much. I have about 5 trays from crafted elements. I didn’t know I needed spray release, I didn’t know I need a vacuum chamber ( what size you would recommend)? I really like the template trick. Never saw that before! So glad I didn’t try to do a resin project yet, obviously I still need to learn so much! Thank you

Thank you Skyler! That means a lot. When I started my journey into working with resin, I watched so many videos. Too many, really. I walked away feeling frustrated, all too many times. I see a need for better education, which is what you do on your amazing page. I've always been the person to experiment and then share my successes and failures. Kathy and I did this for 25 years on our farm and homestead. As a guy that's brand new to sharing content on TH-cam, your input helps me decide what content I should create. I think I should do something like a resin master class, taking people on a journey for the beginning to the end. Possibly do that over a number of videos. I can't wait to see what you create. I know you'll do an amazing job, with your artistic abilities. Feel free to ask questions. I always want my friends and followers to excel in their endeavors!

Derek , that’s an awesome idea. It could be as a mini series. How to successfully make an epoxy project. Starting with tools you need and links where to buy them, set up , stage be stage….
Designing the project is a big one. I have 5 resin trays and tons of wood. I kept looking at all my stuff and have no idea how to make a pleasant design. It’s such a foreign world.
So far my only experience with resin was doing small inlay ( success rate 20% as I always had problems with bubbles), and feeling knots holes ( success rate 40%) as the resin shrunk and had to plane half of the thickness of my board.
I watched a lot of TH-cam but I still hon idea on how to prep the wood for resin, what kind of resin is best ( I bought 4 gallons of resin a year ago thinking I was going to do a river table) it turns out I bought table top resin that is not deep pour…. We need guidance and information

Great suggestions Skyler! I think a mini series is perfect. I’ve been thinking about this since our chat yesterday and I’ve got lots of ideas that I’ll put down on paper. The. I can schedule some time to create this series. In the meantime, since I’m pouring some projects later today, I’ll share with you privately some process to get you going. You’ll be surprised how easy it is.
