    English mustard catches many Americans/Canadians out. It rips out your sinuses, and leaves smoking holes. I cook with it, but still can't eat it on meat.

    I've been to Britain 6 times and every time I make sure that York is on my itinerary and when people ask me where they should go outside of London, my first answer is always York. No one has ever come back and told me they were disappointed in going there.

      I have never been to England. I will be in London for two nights this autumn. The two cities that I would love to see, and be in are both York, and Bath. I think I would like to plan a trip in the future, with a flight from The United States to London, then travel from London to Bath, and then to York. Having never been, but having seen the TH-cams, those are my top two English cities I would like to see, also because of Rick Steves.

      York needs much longer than a day to see everything, and the surrounding countryside (the Dales, the Moors, the Wolds) are also fantastic. I live in York and it's like being on holiday every day.

    I visited this lovely city last Christmas and it was fantastic. I loved seeing all the shops as well as the decorations and lights that were all over the city. I will admit, not only did my visit make me feel like I had stepped into the world of Harry Potter but also made me feel I had entered A Christmas Carol. All it needed was a group of Victorian Christmas Carolers and it would have been perfect lol.

      Lots of bad stereotypes here in the U.S about British tourists as well. Don't judge unless you have a reason to. I'm an American of British descent and I've run into some really obnoxious Brits while visiting the U.K. as well as British tourists over here.

    • @yournan6546
      @yournan6546 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garyyork-zt8om You definitely would have encountered some of our more worse tourists in America. British tourists are essentially split into two groups: the tourists who travel in groups and mainly are interested in partying and the families from hell you see at all inclusive hotels; and the more respectful quiet tourists are usually in couples or small groups - they typically are young couples or older gentlemen/ladies. The older tourists will typically be wearing a polo or a shirt with some beige trousers walking around at a snail pace, but if you get them talking, they will have countless stories to tell.

    Great vid, but just one thing. Pork pies are pretty unique in Yorkshire, you can get them anywhere in Britain but they are completely different elsewhere in the country including the cheap supermarket versions (even in Yorkshire) AND they don't contain veg and gravy, just pork, seasoning, hot water pastry and jelly.
    Popular hot with steeped mushy peas and mint sauce in a bowl if you want to go traditional, but that's more in West Yorks i.e. Leeds/Bradford. Sounds gruesome I know, but don't knock it until you try it, it's seriously delicious.

      @@carltonurwin3923 It was "gata" in the days of Danelaw which included York. In the north east of England and much of what is now Yorkshire and other areas ruled under Danelaw, the Norse language was dominant, indeed much of the old dialects in Yorkshire and the north east were related to old Norse and still have an influence today. Gata was the word for street, hence in York alone there are 43 streets ending in "gate' i.e.Micklegate.
      Edit: I will also add that Danelaw covered a much wider area than the regions I referred to, but the Norse language remained more influential in the north eastern quadrant of England longer than other regions under Danelaw.
