    FYI I don't mess with chain cleaning silly business anymore. I use wax based lubes now. Like White Lightning Clean Ride, or the Finish Line Ceramic Wax. Don't have to clean the chain with wax.

    As someone who sold and repaired ultrasonic cleaners, I would suggest a few things. Never put anything directly on the bottom of the tank or the sound waves will bounce back into the transducers and break the brittle piezo ceramic discs, or break the epoxy bond holding the transducer to the tank. Which leads to a caution about never getting flammable liquids near the unit. It is a common failure for the solder holding the power wire to the transducer to vibrate off and turn into a spark generator.

      good information, thank you. the tray had rubber things on the bottom so it wasnt metal on metal or anything. It is definitely a sketchy chinese contraption i will have to keep an eye on it. I dont use it for that purpose anymore, but it can be useful, I'll have to be careful with it, thanks for the tips!!

      @@EBikeBuilder_ I have the same cleaner. Used it to clean my carbs on my motorcycle. They came out looking brand new

    It's buying an ultrasonic machine and using energies plus chemicals versus waxing the chain or buying a new chain starting around USD 10,-.

      hey Jonas I agree, I dont use the ultrastonic cleaner for this purpose anymore. I don't waste time with cleaning chains anymore, either. I use a wax based lube like white lightning clean ride, and just keep putting more on.

      the ultrasonic machine also makes a terrible noise and takes like 20 minutes. Its not pleasant

      Yeah if you add up the cost it doesn't make sense. I can buy an ultegra or kmc chain for half the price of the ultrasonic cleaner not including the degreaser. If you clean your bike and chain normally a chain would last 10000km or more. Which is like 3-5 years for some

    Interesting video. At this point, is it really cleaning off dirt or are you washing out the internal lubrication of the chain?

      yup it cleans out grease and grime from inside the chain where the actual rollers and pins are. This video was the first time I used it, so i was kind of experimenting. A good resource to check out for a "proper" ultrasonic cleaning procedure is "Zero Friction Cycling" on youtube. Among some of his recommendations are to use mineral spirits to clean the chain first, which I've found to also be very effective. His videos are kind of long winded though.

    After your video i am not sure should anybbody buy it, because usually i put my chain in the bottle with alcohol or gasolin and shake for 5 minutes, but here you spent 30 minuttes, put chain 3 times in cleaner, also used a few liter of liquids... where is time economy?

      yes I agree, its easier to put a chain in solvent like mineral spirits, and shake it. That's how i clean my chains now. I don't use an ultrasonic cleaner anymore. Fair point

    Should you not have the basket suspended rather than sitting on the base

    • @EBikeBuilder_
      @EBikeBuilder_  ปีที่แล้ว

      it has these little rubber legs that are on the bottom of the basket

    Scrub first and clean 30 minutes with the cage suspended by the handles on the sides

      what I usually do is put the chain in mineral spirits and shake it and leave it for a bit. Then I shake it in Denatured Alcohol. Then I do a wax based lube. That way you dont really have to clean the chain with solvents anymore, i just do that once when its a new chain to prep it for wax. The ultrasonic is good but i only use it on new chains. The solvent agitation can work pretty much just as well. I agree if the chain is dirty obviously wipe it off first as it will be easier to clean. But everyone loves seeing the ultrasonic time lapses of dirtyness apparently. This is my most popular video and probably one of the least effort ones.
