The characters already have my attention - I'm a sucker for monsters and that whole vibe. The animation looks great and the tone is on point. As others have said, that's Rick Flag Sr. who'll also appear in live action in Superman and Peacemaker season 2. Nice to see Doc Phosphorus, especially with a revamped origin. Originally, he was a scumbag who built a substandard nuclear reactor that _blew up outside Gotham City but somehow he was the only casualty._ He had dived behind some sandbags, and the nuclear explosion peppered his entire body with silicon "blasted up one number on the chemical scale" to phosphorus, "which must forever burn!!" Instead of, you know, _immediately dying,_ he became Burning Negative Skeleton Man and decided his best course of action was to poison Gotham's water by skinny-dipping in the local reservoir (which was apparently just as poorly staffed as his power plant). Cool look, but that backstory stretched credulity even for '70s comic-book hoohah.

It's already confusing enough starting a new DCU with a new Supes for normal cinemagoers since everybody is used to Henry. Than there's also the seperate the Batman universe & Joker. Rick Flag Sr. is also appearing in Superman AND Peacemaker season 2, where he is going to be seeking revenge on Peacemaker for the death of his son in The Suicide Squad. It is as of yet unknown if the entirety of those projects are canon, or just certain plot points, but I assume we'll find out more in this series when it comes out, as well as future installments in the DCU. But some things seem to be consistent. Clayface is in this trailer, and Brave and the Bold will feature Damien Wayne as Robin, so Batman has been around for a good while, compared to Superman, similar to the DCEU. The cast of the Blue Beetle movie is getting an animated series continuation, all reprising their roles, meaning Blue Beetle is likely canon to the DCU, which also means there's probably an older, Ted Kord Blue Beetle still out there somewhere if the post credit scene is anything to go by. But that's basically all right now. Regardless, I am very intrigued by James Gunn's approach to the DCU having basically everyone already established rather than introducing everyone over a long period of time. This allows us to get a lot of characters very quickly and allows for a lot of creativity in the story department in terms of who can and can't be used in future projects, be they live action movies or shows, animated movies or shows, or video games. I just hope it all works out for them. I've enjoyed most of the DCEU, and most DC content generally in the last 10 years, but they undeniably need a win as far as the general public goes.
