Marvel's orgin is far more interesting in the telling... and far more truthful, even if parts of the story are missing: Marvel was on the verge of shutting down the comics arm of Martin Goodman's publishing in 1959. Comic sales were failing with the advent of TV. And Goodman messed up by having his distribution company go under. A deal with National, well DC to keep this short kept him his comics wing going by distributing his books for him. Intent on closing shop, Goodman ordered no new material to be bought from creatives. Only inventoried work was sent out to press. The 'staff' shrank to Stan Lee by himself and even the office furniture was farmed out. It was not Lee who convinced Goodman to keep gong, but rather Jack Kirby who took a pile of concept work into Goodman's office and said he could make books that would sell. Included in that portfolio was a spin off of Challengers of the Unknown book that was a top seller for National, as well as a bare bone concept for Iron Man. I am not going to diminish or assign who did what between he and Stan. But in no way did Stan 'write the FF on his own' on the suggestion by his wife. It would be improbable that Stan 'writing alone' would name the female lead Sue after Kirby's daughter or Ben after Kirby's father. Just as it is improbable that Lee created Spider-man while looking a spider crawling up a wall. In fact, after Kirby's FF story was decided to be a sales hit, Goodman came back to Kirby and asked, "What else you got?" Kirby came into the office with a pitch for the 'Silver Spider'. But for the name "Spider" in his pitch, there wouldn't be the idea for a "Spider" man. Anyway, Lee approached Ditko to ink Kirby's SS pages. After giving it a look over, Ditko warned Lee that Kirby's Silver Spider was very similar to an already published Kirby book, 'The Fly.' Put off by the idea of risking copyright infringement, Stan had the story reworked by Ditko. Again, no clue as to who did what, but it's more likely that Uncle Ben and Aunt May were provided by Ditko from a previous story written and drawn by Ditko a year or so before. So there was no 'I saw a spider crawl up a wall.' On far more solid ground of what WASN'T part of the narrative invented by Stan Lee's 'Origin of Marvel Comics' is Dare Devil. A character entirely invented by artist Bill Everett and his children. Bill was brought in by Goodman to repurpose the Daredevil character from the Golden Age, so to avoid loss of copyright which was at the time being challenged by the book's original creator. It was Everett who decided Daredevil would be a blind lawyer and carry a cane. It was Everett's daughter, who had suffered from a childhood illness, who thought up the idea that DD would gain sonar powers to make up for his blindness. And his son provided input for the costume. So if you take out the Law angle, which also takes out Matt's office partners, his blindness, his cane, his sonar power... what was left about DD for Lee to 'create?' On top of this, Everett was so late drawing and plotting the book on his own, Marvel reached a point a half year on of having to pay hefty fees for unused printing time since nothing was ready for the presses. Enter Jack Kirby, who created, wrote/plotted and drew X-Men #1 over a weekend, so Marvel would have something to put to press and avoid the empty press cost. When he finally turned in Daredevil #1, Everett was canned from the book. And it wouldn't be until Wally Wood came on the book a few issues later to create more of the DD lore that we know and love today. I don't mean to bash Lee. I grew up racing to my local comics machine to get those early Marvels as they came out. I was on the ground floor. Lee was as big a force in those early memories as anyone could be. But I am also a realist. And none to fond of our modern day propensity to sop up Propaganda at every turn. (Not in our present times for damned sure.) Rest assured, that narrative about Lee is all a cover to save a Corporation cash money over 'work for hire' disputes. A polite fiction for an audience none the wiser. And in case you didn't know, Wolverine - name, claws and all -was the creation of a kid in Ohio who answered a challenge in a Marvel Fan magazine to invent a new character and live to see him in print. Of course the legalize at the bottom of the submission says all rights are property of Marvel Comics. And the poor kid will NEVER see his name mentioned anywhere as the creator of Wolverine. It's about the money.
So, in the comics, The Thing is 6'0." In here, he's wider than the original and taller, but not wider than the 2015 FF bc they made him too tall in that film. Ebon is already 6'1" so he's a bit taller than that as The Thing. Overall, he's the most comic accurate.
I think it's also just the sweater making him look smaller, a bit of a visual illusion messing with people. Same thing as wolverine and the sleeves on his suit making Hugh's muscles and build less imposing. If we saw the skin on his chest and shoulders, all jagged and rocky, people wouldn't be saying the same thing. Im hyped either way tho!
Galactus can shrink. He can change his size. Yes the silver surfer is in it. It's 1960s inspired retro futuristic Earth. This takes place in an alternative Earth.
I had that same reaction at the beginning. I had a video running on my second screen and as soon as they said "Baxter Building", my head snapped to the side and screen 1 was forgotten.
I want Aaron to have another look at The Thing in those other movies and then try to be 'undecided' on the look of this Thing. He looks like he's straight off the page. And Galactus has always been able to change his size.

Back in college I was at a showing of something, and when the green preview screen came up some dude yelled "Previews! Sweet!". Each new preview he'd say it until the whole audience was saying it by the last preview. To this day when I see previews I think very quietly (previews, sweet!). I kind of wish this was a thing we all did, because who doesn't love previews?

I like the cast a lot and they look good, but who I liked the most in the trailer was Vanessa as Sue Storm, from the look and especially how she feels that she is the mother who connects the group, she has a lot of potential
I'm here for that epic score! Dramatic and otherworldly. I love how Ben looks. The best he's ever looked onscreen. Like pulled right from the pages of the comics. Also, the way Sue's powers are depicted are original and interesting. Love how light is being filtered like it's thru a prism. This ALL feels right. FINALLY a Fantastic Four movie that looks like a Fantastic Four movie!
i had no idea this movie was happening but after watching the trailer it looks p cool! i love the retro vintage vibe and the actors (the ones i recognize) are solid!
Galactus doesn’t “chomp” on planets. He converts matter to energy and absorbs the energy. He is consuming the planet, “eating” it, but doesn’t chew planets. Hope that helps. :-)
@@davis.fourohfour I have a theory that would help make Galactus make sense, and solve an MCU 616 situation. What Galactus feeds on is the Celestial inside host planets (and life on the planet in the process). When Galactus does arrive on 616, Reed convinces him to consume Tiamut alone and spare Earth. No more Celestial poking out, and no abundance of adamantium.
Y’all probably won’t see this, but if we’re going with original comics vibes: both The Thing and Galactus are a lot smaller than in today’s depictions. The Thing was shorter than Reed in a lot of old comics. Galactus was big, but not like… his mouth wasn’t bigger than the planet so he could take a bite out of it or anything lol
You don’t read the source material and then complain that it’s not like the source material even though it’s exactly like source material. The first thing you should know if you’ve read a single issue with galactus in it is that he doesn’t literally bite and swallow planets for fuel. He drains them with his solar system sized ship.
The part when Sue says "Ben has always been a rock" got to me. He's the best, the most dependable friend you could ask and wtih tha scene with H.e.r.b.i.e he seems to try to find happiness despite his circumstances
I love the look of The Thing. Very Jack Kirby-ish, which is perfect. It's about time someone gives us a Fantastic Four we can be happy with. Hopefully, this is it.
The style is called "googie". Also can be "atompunk". Almost 30 years ago on Ain't It Cool News I called for the Fantastic Four being set in 1962. I cannot be happier.
The retro futuristic/atompunk looks amazing Would love to see more superhero movies with different aesthetics like a Steampunk Batman or Cyberpunk Spider-man 2099 movies in live action
The Thing is usually smaller but still able to go toe to toe with Hulk. He doesnt have to to be big to be a pure wrecking ball of solid rock. I like that he is comic accurate to Kirby.
I don't know a thing about comics so seeing Ben, I'm mostly reminded of the very very first F4 movie they tried. I don't know if his design in that movie was more comic accurate but this version instantly reminded me of that one.
Vanessa Kirby, you shoulda also remember her from the Mission Impossible films. Yes she was great as Margo on the crown and she was also on Napoleon as Josephine de Beuharnais.

It’s got a Tomorrowland/Epcot type of aesthetic and I am here for it
11:48 Sue Storm's actress is also in _Hobbs & Shaw_ as Shaw's sister Hattie!
Michael Giacchino keeps proving that he’s the best composer Marvel Studios has ever had.
So, in the comics, The Thing is 6'0." In here, he's wider than the original and taller, but not wider than the 2015 FF bc they made him too tall in that film. Ebon is already 6'1" so he's a bit taller than that as The Thing. Overall, he's the most comic accurate.
😂😂😂
If that's your only complaint....it'll be ok. 😆 🤣 😂
Love Calvin's Stargate hat. It'd be awesome to have the crew react to SG-1!
I had that same reaction at the beginning. I had a video running on my second screen and as soon as they said "Baxter Building", my head snapped to the side and screen 1 was forgotten.
I didn’t realize this was going to be a retro old school movie . Now, I’m looking forward to it . Look fun
This trailer was truly fantastic everything looks great especially the thing
Something about his head doesn't look right to me, Idk what it is
@@BigLittleSloth well that's how his head looks in the comics so it's accurate
They are going with his look from the earlier comics of the fantastic four
say that again...
@@overchipz Cinema
Michael Chiklis' The Thing, is the best one. P E R I O D.
Galactic can change his size in the comics so glad they went with that
Everytime a trailer drops that I like I just can’t wait for your guys reaction. Keep up the amazing content as always❤❤
Almost brought a tear to my eye. I'm so happy.
I want Aaron to have another look at The Thing in those other movies and then try to be 'undecided' on the look of this Thing. He looks like he's straight off the page.
And Galactus has always been able to change his size.
This looks freaking amazing! Finally a serious and back to the original Marvel Fantastic Four! And they are all nailing it! Super excited for July! Can't wait!
The thing’s design here looks almost exactly like the Kirby look back in the day, so at least for me it looks…fantastic.
Also, I heard that it’s also mostly practical with cgi in there to help it!
Eddie's concert in the upside down was so fire, he became Fire!
1:45 "Is this guy good or what"?! I think that question was directed at us about The Thing?! Even though The Thing was the one who said it, cause I'm sure people were worried how he'd turn out? 🤔
sue storm had some of the best dialogue in this trailer i cried when she said "i'm right here" AHHHHHH
I like the cast a lot and they look good, but who I liked the most in the trailer was Vanessa as Sue Storm, from the look and especially how she feels that she is the mother who connects the group, she has a lot of potential
The Thing looks JUST like Kirby’s design or an Alex Ross painting. Thin jaw, heavy brows. Also, Galactus can alter his size
Galactic can alter his size it’s one of his abilities
I was waiting for a blind wave to react to this trailer
5:59 Galactus can alter his size guys! 😅
Not giving too much away, and that's to be welcomed.
Loving the retro futuristic look!
The clip with Cousin, I mean, Ben, preparing a meal is cute!
Galactus doesn’t “chomp” on planets.
He converts matter to energy and absorbs the energy.
He is consuming the planet, “eating” it, but doesn’t chew planets.
Hope that helps. :-)
More specifically he needs planets with sentient life on it. It's just more delicious somehow. Yes, something weird is going on with him.
No more Celestial poking out, and no abundance of adamantium.
very hyped for this, big thanks guys!~
A Fantastic trailer reaction
Galactic shrinking and growing is very cool to me. You can have him act and talk regular with the family.
Peak cinema fellas... David Cosplay has left the chat
I gotta admit: I hope “Eddie Munson” gets to go “FLAME ON!!!”
Galactus? About damn time.
It's simply perfect, I never imagined this, my biggest hype of the year
You don’t read the source material and then complain that it’s not like the source material even though it’s exactly like source material. The first thing you should know if you’ve read a single issue with galactus in it is that he doesn’t literally bite and swallow planets for fuel. He drains them with his solar system sized ship.
“Presented in Fantastivision” I love that
I'm honestly surprised they didn't know Galactus was in the movie. The Galactus casting was everywhere when it was announced a few months ago.
To be fair, this is Blind Wave. Staying oblivious until the footage is playing in front of them is their job.
Galactus is a lot like dark seid, he can change his size.
The thing is practical and CGI!!!!
I just want to hear how Ralph Inesone is going to sound as Galactus
wait, it's ralph?
more the diablo 4 voice than the final fantasy 16 voice then.
shame.....his FF16 voice is butter
Aaron's sneeze at the beginning sounded like a super speed sound effect.
Haven't seen a recent Blind Wave vid in awhile, Aaron's beard is so big omg
This is exactly what I want from a fantastic four movie. The tone is perfect
The trail at the very end, my God!
Awesome trailer.
4 of u shouldve reacted to this hahahahah love it
The style is called "googie". Also can be "atompunk".
Almost 30 years ago on Ain't It Cool News I called for the Fantastic Four being set in 1962. I cannot be happier.
The Thing is practical and cgi combination
has the atom punk style that fallout has and tbh i’m kinda digging it
The retro futuristic/atompunk looks amazing
Would love to see more superhero movies with different aesthetics like a Steampunk Batman or Cyberpunk Spider-man 2099 movies in live action
The Thing is usually smaller but still able to go toe to toe with Hulk. He doesnt have to to be big to be a pure wrecking ball of solid rock. I like that he is comic accurate to Kirby.
Wow, this is so cool man!!!! It's going to be the movie of the year
I think the thing looks a lot more like himself in the comics
you guys look like a trio of snowed in lumberjacks.
8:24 yep Captain America this month thunderbolts in may then FF in July
I don't know a thing about comics so seeing Ben, I'm mostly reminded of the very very first F4 movie they tried. I don't know if his design in that movie was more comic accurate but this version instantly reminded me of that one.
Correct Word- Jetsons, I like it. 😊
Vanessa Kirby was also in several Mission Impossible movies and Hobbs and Shaw.
Vanessa Kirby, you shoulda also remember her from the Mission Impossible films. Yes she was great as Margo on the crown and she was also on Napoleon as Josephine de Beuharnais.
Galactus can change size btw
Guys, Galactus can change his size. If he was ALWAYS bigger than a planet how could anyone do anything?
I mean Ego is planet sized and has regularly been beaten by Thor.
But I get what you mean.
I’m so excited! Daddy-I MEAN PEDRO… can do no wrong in my eyes. Also I wonder if it takes place in the 60’s how they’ll explain them not being mentioned or seen so far in MCU
I'm pretty sure this film takes place in an alternate universe and it is in the 60s
Gotta say , It looks pretty fantastic ¡!
say that again?

@@Commander_Shepard. that again
