Which commands did you use for your Little Computer Person? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1985: tinyurl.com/1985-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
I was one of the few U.K. kids that had a 1541 floppy drive, so I saved to pretty much only buy disk games, so while my friends were playing arcade and platform tape games, I was playing games like LCP, Ghostbusters, Ultima IV, Wasteland, Gunship, etc!
Same for me in Italy, the disk drive was vital. As much as I loved the C64, I would have gotten rid of it pretty quick if fast loader cartridges and disk drives weren't available.
This was so ahead of it's time. As a product of my own time (an early teenager) when this came out, I really didn't play with it alot except to try and torture my dude as much as possible but I thought it was pretty cool, but not near as interesting as becoming an Avatar in Ultima IV. Great choice to cover though, and many belated props to the very talented David Crane!
In th actual instructions for this game, it said that this was a real computer person and the tape would load only the house to encourage the real man and his dog to move into the house! As a six year old I was absolutely convinced the man and his dog were real!!
Ahhh the innocence of youth huh. Great game this and really probably taught me to care for animals as a kid - I loved the little dog and always made sure I'd keep his food bowl topped up 😁🕹👌🐕
I played this game day after day after day. this was such an big game for me in my childhood. I learned that if you 'copied' the disk before you played it, each disk would have a different random person when the game first loads. That was my first 'pirate' thing that I had no idea I was doing at the time. I had 4 different disks with totally different people. I used to say that this game is what became The Sims. You my friend knocked this out of the park!
Loved caring for my little person and his dog, I used to feel guilty when I'd turn the game off as I thought they was going to be lonely hahaha. Ahhh the innocence of youth huh 😇🕹👌
Yeah haha, I'd constantly try to make him do bad things as a kid but he wasn't ever listening... maybe that was a reflection on my real self as a 5 year old haha. But I always had empathy for the little guy, if he or his dog ever ran out of food for too long I'd feel really bad. Great memories playing this really... such a classic 😇🕹️👌
The movie Tron came out in July 1982, LCP came out in september 1985. Tron and LCP left an indelible mark on my psyche. Thx a lot for your review. I didn't play LCP a lot, but i was just watchin' it ... and i saw the future. Kudos to David Crane and Rich Gold and everybody else involved in makin' this gem.
Tron was one of my favourite films as a kid, as well as the awesome 'Wargames' - great times... a part of my life where there was exciting games everywhere you looked. Brilliant days 😇🕹️👌
I remember playing this on the C64. What a great game! David Crane brought us the Sims 15 years before Will Wright. That little guy was amazing. BTW, there is a version of this game ported to the Famicom Disk System. Called Apple Town Monogatari, it's an interesting port. I guess both systems running a 6502 family processor helped!
played this quite a bit and was amazed that things "went on" and didn't reset when I turned off the C64. :) I even felt bad when I declined to play a game with the little guy...
I am not sure if there were any secrets... but maybe we've just not discovered them yet. A lot of the times I'd experiment with asking him to do things that were noto included in the manual... but he wouldn't respond so after a while I just gave up 😇🕹️👌
I used to load this up and just let my LCP tinker about all day, with some occasional interaction from me. I had the disk version which was much better than the tape :)
Sometimes I'd have to go for a bath for school, or mayeb food was ready etc... then when I'd return to the game, the fatty had eaten all the food and was now roaming around the house green as the incredible hulk, frowning his head off and banging on the monitor. Hahaha good memories 😇🕹️👌
He was always squeaking to someone on the phone... one thing I always wondered was why couldn't he have a female companion to live with him. Maybe thats who he was always moaning to on the telephone haha 😇🕹️👌
As a kid, i found this to be, not a game per-se, you'd have to leave the "game" on for long time, But it did teach me a lot of english so, i'd rate it on the positive side. School Daze was someting i enjoyed a bit more.
Skool Daze was amazing when it came onto the scene, another game with a totally unique concept. These genre starting games were all realised at a time where the micro computers were booming. Such a fantastic era 😇🕹️👌
Great game that I put a good few hours into. Very original idea and I don't think there was anything else like it. I had the tape version so didn't have the full features but still great memories.
I played the disk version for many hours which was the only version to own, I played the tape version at my friends and was disappointed. Due to memory restraints loading everything in memory and unable to save progress, the tape version was far inferior and cut down. The little computer person was created from scratch on every load with no moving in sequence as seen on the disk version, they had to cut out card games such as Poker, but even worse the computer person had no memory and didn't communicate meaningfully with the user. If I remember rightly a few other things were missing too including less music tracks.
Until today i had no idea we were missing out by only having this on tape! I never even knew of a c64 disk drive until I went on a school exchange to Germany though, no one I knew had one
We definitely couldnt afford one, and didn't even knew disks existed until we saw it in a magazine... but mannnn it was crazy expensive here in the UK back in the 80s. I had no chance asking my Mum or Dad for it... but luckily, there were so many tape games on a budget label so I never really thought I was missing out 😇🕹️👌
I never was into "The Sims" kind of games... but I did play LCP a little bit. I seem to remember the guy would do crazy things like leave water running, not feed the dog, etc without me explicitly telling him to "please" turn the water off and feed the dog... which seemed to make him upset. I dunno... I heard their personalities are different so maybe I got an oddball. LOL! I didn't play it much, though... so maybe it would have gotten better.
You're right, they all seemed to have different personality quirks. Mine, for example, didn't seem to want to listen to a damn word I said! The little s#!t 😇🕹️👌
I didn't play the disk version personally until a few years later from release but like yourself, I was shocked at how many extra features were missed from the tape version 😇🕹👌
You should do a video reviewing "The vindicator"... Wakelin did it again... super cover ,but the game itself is a little hmmmm... btw do you know how can I enter the passwords for level 2 and 3??
I think David Crane sent zzap64 a load of cash when they reviewed this! River Raid fantastic, computer people unforgivable. And you stick to playing Gyruss Julian Rignall

Lucky 😇🕹👌

I remember playing this game for the first time on my friend's Amiga back in the 2000's 😹👍🕹️.
It's like THE SIMS on the Commodore 64 and Amiga 😹👍🕹️.
Yes, it was ahead of it's time.

Yup, the game also refers to itself as "House On A Disk" instead of Little Computer People.
Ahhh the innocence of youth huh. Great game this and really probably taught me to care for animals as a kid - I loved the little dog and always made sure I'd keep his food bowl topped up 😁🕹👌🐕

I had this one for the C64, it was fun watching the little guy do his thing

This is weird, never seen a game like this before. Thanks for the great review!
Thanks again my friend. I'm always encouraged to continue thanks to amount of love for these awesome games 😇🕹👌❤️

I had this one. It was unusual but I liked the variation of games for my old C64
So many different genre's of games, could never get bored with a Commodore 64 ad it has such a vast library of really great games 😇🕹👌
I remember playing this on the C64. What a great game! David Crane brought us the Sims 15 years before Will Wright. That little guy was amazing. I'd like to try that game, I'll definitely keep my eyes out for it 😇🕹️👌
played this quite a bit and was amazed that things "went on" and didn't reset when I turned off the C64. :) I even felt bad when I declined to play a game with the little guy...
Yeah I'd always feel guilty on the little guy after a while. Was so immersive when I first played it, like nothing else of its time 😇🕹👌
I've been waiting for this one! Wonder if I can find a 'secrets' video for this game.
I am not sure if there were any secrets... but maybe we've just not discovered them yet. A lot of the times I'd experiment with asking him to do things that were noto included in the manual... but he wouldn't respond so after a while I just gave up 😇🕹️👌

"(..) answering the phone he sounds like a hyperactive budgie in the pressure cooker (..)"
😳😳😲 how mean, but so very true and on point 😆😆😂👍
He was always squeaking to someone on the phone... one thing I always wondered was why couldn't he have a female companion to live with him. Maybe thats who he was always moaning to on the telephone haha 😇🕹️👌

Incredibly unique game which truly captivated me as a kid 😇🕹👌
"Please smash the mirror with your head". Dood, you're so mean... 😂😂😂
Luckily, he never listened to me.... haha 😇🕹️👌
I've never seen this before, i probably would have enjoyed this when I was young
While it lasted, this game was very special for me as a kid - I really cared for my LCP and his little dog 😇🕹️👌

Yeah I had to use the disk version for video. My original cassette copy missed out all of the games which sucked 😇🕹👌
I wonder if someone will make a hack that links the little computer person’s mind to Chat GPT ?
Haha now that would be amazing - I'm sure someday all of these things will be instantly possible 😇🕹️👌
Had it on my old Amstrad 6128, always thought of this as the seed that the Sims grew from, whether consciously or subconsciously.
This game definitely changed the genre and probably spawned the idea for 'Sims' 😇🕹️👌
Until today i had no idea we were missing out by only having this on tape!

this is so cool!
Fun game isn't it... makes me laugh playing it - daft game 🤣🕹👌
Very cool concept. If I remember correctly each copy of the game would generate a unique character.
This is true, each time you load a new game it would randomly generate a little character for you... with seemingly it's own personality too 😇🕹️👌
I never was into "The Sims" kind of games... but I did play LCP a little bit. I seem to remember the guy would do crazy things like leave water running, not feed the dog, etc without me explicitly telling him to "please" turn the water off and feed the dog... which seemed to make him upset. Has LCP an load/save option?
Yes it would save and sort of 'continue running' when you want playing 😇🕹👌
Ah ok, otherwise it would be THE reason to buy an Action Replay.
I had one named Tanner that would stop on a dime and instantly do anything I asked him to do
Mine was a little shit and wouldn't listen to a word I said 😇🕹️👌
Abgefahrenes experiment! 👍😉
Super game, many good memories - can have good fun with this one 😇🕹️👌
our person's name was Russ.
I'd call mine worse names than that - especially when he'd ignore my commands haha 😇🕹️👌
What AI do you use for the voice over?
Haha AI? Join my Patreon where I speak 'Live' and on camera.
Was truly hacked off when I got the tape version of this, only to find it was a chopped-down version far inferior to the disk. Rip off.
With a bit of luck, that will be on video in the near future... theres such a substantial library, but we'll definitely get there 😇🕹️👌
I think David Crane sent zzap64 a load of cash when they reviewed this!
River Raid fantastic, computer people unforgivable.
And you stick to playing Gyruss Julian Rignall
Ahhh I actually really loved this when it first came out, but then again I was only 4 or 5 but I remember thinking it was brilliant back then 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I was 13 and I loved computer magazines more than the games!
Everytime I got let down by a magazine was a serious thing.
