I think the 550 is universally loved, especially a manual. I'm a 2000s baby and it's one of my favourite cars thanks to the gt1 era, my dad loves them too. It's just so pretty, and you can't go wrong with a gated manual v12 front engined ferrari
Just the last sentence alone is why it is a fan favorite... Gated stick, 12 cylinders, modern Pini-body, and it has a "get up and go" personality like any GT class car.
I had a scale model 550 maranello in yellow that I loved looking at. I was born in 1985. And I’m right there with you. Every time I think of Ferrari I always think of this model. This was peak Ferrari of the modern era.
I would never buy a new Ferrari if I had the money, but this is something I'd be all over like white on rice. V12, plus six speed gated manual? Sign me up!
This 550 cries to be going at least 80 mph cruising on a highway. It can go 100 mph for as long as you have the gas. The perfect trip car. Get there quickly in all the comfort without a care in the world. This Ferrari still has an analog feel. Connection to the machine. New cars? Amazing engineering and much safer. But all video screens and it's isolating.
The most sleeper look in this era and I love it. The best part is if you start actually looking at the detail, then you can appreciate the art of the design.
Brave or plain stupid? If the seller doesn't want to spend money on new tyres, the car shouldn't be driven... especially by an enthusiast who might test its limits
This car was such a part of my childhood that I'm playing the NFS High Stakes soundtrack while watching this. NFS4 was the first game to offer real 3d interior views in a racing game so the nostalgia hits HARD.
These things are so perfectly proportioned. The interior is a 10/10 on point. Those seats and the gated manual is amazing. You've made me want one, more than I already wanted one.
Awesome video! This is my tap root car. I had a 1:18 scale model of it that I would sit and stare at. Lost it years ago and found the same one on Ebay. Now it's in my office where I still stare at while I'm on phone calls.
In 2000, I was at a Best Buy and a young guy (mid 20s) pulled up in one of these. I certainly hadn't ever seen one in the wild,. In a split second, he KNEW that I KNEW that I had made incorrect life choices.
This and the 355 are my favorites. Something about 90s Ferraris. Those side vents remind me of shark gills. So cool. Of course you have the F50, F40, and Enzo. But these are much more attainable.
I love that dedicated camera for shifting through those gates! Reminds me of old racing games, where every time you shifted, gearknob appeared and moved into the correct gear.
The clicks that the shifter makes while you’re changing gears sound so so satisfying and it’s amazing how comfortable that V12 sounds at 4,000 rpm’s sounds like it could stay there forever I want one so bad😢
Such a gorgeous car that looks supersonic even at a standstill. Such an engaging sound and through the magic of your videos I can experience this dream car. Thanks a bunch Tedward! #RespectTheDrive
Perfect. Timeless. And yeah, to me...flawless too. They have no flaws, just quirks. XD Jokes aside...I like the original 550, even better than the 575M, even if it's less powerful. Yes, I am biased, having born in 1990, these were the latest and greatest when I was a kid, even had a 1/18 die-cast by Maisto in the same silver paint as the press-release. I'd pick one of these in a heartbeat over whatever came later, even the 575M itself. 599 GTB, F12berlinetta, 812 Superfast, and now the 12cilindri...none of them matches this. Thanks, Tedward! 😎👍🏻
15 years ago, my ex-girfriend's father had a 575M, rosso scuderia, 5000 km on the clock, still with the original plastics on the interior on the sides near the feet, just like the miniature i had at home when i was a kid. Pristine condition, original Ferrari bags behind the seats. Gated gearbox. Cream seats with piping on the edges. Once, we pushed it off the garage, he gave me the keys and told me to turn on that V12, let it warm up and give it a few high revs, and turn it back off again. I was barefoot, only wearing beach shorts. Felt the whole car shaking on each rev, the exhaust note... absorbing the moment and the opportunity to experience something i've dreamt since a kid was overwhelming. I can't even describe it in a fair way. A few months ago, I was told that this person had died, sick. I can't stop but to thank him for sharing his knowledge and for letting me share a lot of car enthusiasm with him, and have this (and many more) great car experiences during the time i met him. What a nice gentleman he was. Thank you so much for this glorious day
I have had the privilege of driving this meticulously crafted automobile. I don’t have the words to describe what it’s like. Too many things rushing to mind and nothing negative to boot. Just perfect. To be honest I was a bit afraid of breaking something 🤣😂 and took it nice and easy on it.
The 550 is an awesomely understated looking car. And that V12 puts out some good power and sound for the time. Also, I'm shocked that those 20 year old tires are even drivable and not 85% dry rot.
@@TedwardDrives i have never understood why owners of these cars are not changing the tires due to age. it just boggles my mind. I love this generation Ferrari's interior--550, 456, etc. The absence of navigation screen really helps the center console to stay timeless. The eyes are drawn to the beautiful shift stick instead of to the navigation screen, just as they should be.
This vid only makes me wanna try one more, it's a shame the engine doesn't sound like modern Ferrari V12s do. I think you got it spot on though--it's charming! Interior I think will continue looking good for years to come, aged very well indeed.
