- The rest of the story as told by Carl Perkins in a 1996 interview with Goldmine magazine which ran in the 1998 Beatles edition: "She (Linda) said, "There's two people in the world that know what John Lennon said to Paul, the last thing he said to him. Me and Paul are the only two that know that, but now there's three...you know it. I said, "Girl, you're freaking me out!...She said the last words that John Lennon said to Paul in the hallway of the Dakota building were...he patted him on the shoulder, and said, "Think about me every now and then, old friend."'

Now I know why Paul McCartney didn’t give up on the new song “Now and Then” Significant personal meaning to him.
Yep, it's the last song for his best friends, especially his best of best friend. I cried many tears when I heard it.
Same thing happened while Olivia Harrison was putting an old clock George had bought on the mantle. Paul called her to ask if it was okay to work on the song written by John that he, Ringo, and George had started working on in 1994. As she was looking at the clock Paul told her the song was called 'Now and Then', and the clock had the words 'Now' and 'Then' written on it.

That was no coincidence, him singing that song to Paul with those lyrics at the end. People can think otherwise, and thats their right, but that was John, dropping off a message to his mate that everything is ok.
Personally, I've witnessed myself on spiritboxes, and old friends who had just passed tell me how much they missed me and our other friends. Reading about it and actually experiencing something like that changes your worldview. There is so much more going on around us than we could ever imagine.
That gave me shivers, when Paul called him. That's crazy!? But the story about the song is beautiful.
Carl left out the most important fact in that story. Paul was crying because the last thing John said to him was in the hallway of The Dakota. “Think of me now and then, old Friend” as he patted Paul on the back.
Paul had never had a full out hard cry of grief since John died.
Carl Perkins had no idea of that fact.
Writing that song for Paul and Linda was no coincidence. John helped him write it.
Part of Beatles mythology.
Unproven and I doubt it true or Carl would have mentioned it.

George played a Carl song at his funeral, the Beatles really respected Carl and his talent! He was one of the biggest influences they had starting out!

The way Paul looks at him is incredible. Like he's in awe (to be fair, we all should be). How did Paul react to John telling him that? Did he think it was odd? Like "where are you going"? Did John know? It's all just eerie, in a beautiful way.
The Beatles were huge Carl Perkins fans,especially George.

I don`t need onions. I am 73 years old and have dementia. One of the lesser known things about dementia, is that the emotions are EXTREME. It takes very little to have me in tears :(
After watching Get Back I’ve realized how close, connected John and Paul were. This story is truly amazing!
One this is certain, neither Paul or Carl knew John had recorded a demo tape called “now and then” prior to his death, and Carl wrote this just a few months after Lennon died.
Yoko didn’t give the demo tape of “now and then” to the Beatles until 1994 or so.
The coincidences are mind blowing.
Coincidences are just that. They prove nothing, except to those who need to believe.

Many may not know. Carl was an evangelist... The Holy Spirit will have you say things unaware that can turn out to be just what's needed for the moment. Have seen it happen more than once. The person speaking is not consciously doing it. He just felt like saying it.... God is the God of all comfort.

At 71 yrs. old with lots of witnessing and experiences I've come to the conclusion : religion is nonsense, but the spirit world is real.
the beatles were really big fans of carl perkins, especially george. when they went on their very first tour (before ringo joined) they all changed their names, and george changed his to Carl Harrison (after Carl Perkins)
...and just as he is talking about the psychic connection between John, Paul and that song, who calls him? Paul. Yeah, something uncanny is going on for sure.
