I've been away from home over 15 years due to school and career. I may live on the mainland, but my heart will ALWAYS be in HAWAII.. Mahalo NUI LOA for posting these music. Gives me the great memories of my true HOME.....ALOHA.....
I have been diagnosed with leukemia and since then I have found the sound of the islands of Hawaii so very soothing and calming in a very chaotic world. Thank you for this beautiful song
My years ago I bought a computer golf game with a Hawaiian course, they did a flyby type look with this song playing. I was mesmerized by it and immediately went out and bought my first Hapa cd. These guys just make you feel the trade winds when they sing and play.
my dad loves this artist... brought me up listening to it on our road trips.. these songs and this artist/album resembles freedom to me... and whenever i hear it.. it makes my heart skip a beat a little and it makes me feel a happiness inside that only ever experience rarely...
An Aussie friend sent me this beautiful song when she found out I had some Hawaiian heritage ------ born in US to a Hawaiian Mother now living in Australia. I love this song. I also miss "IZ". Bless you.
I just stumbled upon this video and I'm so addicted to this song! The harmony is just so beautiful. I listen over and over and can't get enough. Trying to memorize the lyrics now. Hapa is coming to my area in March (Grass Valley, CA) and I'm going to see them for sure!
Hapa has saved my mind during this virus. Yes!! Thank you Hapa!!! Cori yreka california gotta dance to your music; otherwise feel like a zombie. Hapa ROCKS!!
I carry Maui in my heart...I remember the roads lined with flowers, the eucalyptus standing like pillars, the fruit, the sand, the ink blue water, and with every breadth, Aloha. I hurt to be so far.
my sister and i were both born in Wahiawa and lived in Mililani for a few years before moving to Ohio. Now I'm planning on going to school at Manoa and I can't wait to move back
Whoowoo if Gabby Pahanui was alive he would be super proud of these boys!! I love Hapa : ) btw my late grandma is a close family friends of the Pahanaui's she use to live on Bell Street , in Waimanalo : ) and the Pahanui family still live there .
I don't know the exact translation but from what I remember from hula - in this last verse we are watching the sunset after a fun day of collecting limu (ka ulu wehi) from the ocean (kai). This is such a fun hula and when Hapa performed in Oregon, lots of women from the audience got up on stage and danced. Might be something they do at all their touring concerts.
Ho'okohukohu e ka limu kohu Ke kau i luna o na moku la 'O ia maku 'ula la e ho 'Oni ana i 'oi anei Free diving, scuba, sailing out to watch the green flash, out in the Molokai'i channel at night seeing the Southern Cross. Hula kahiko at Merry Monarch Festival under the night skies...always seemed to rain on last night. This is one ono song...just need a gourd for percussion, a capella singing and lovely hula hands....so easy brah! Eh! Mahalo Nui Loa!
Aloha from the island! *shaka sign* :) Remember that so long as you carry Aloha in your heart and spread it to all you encounter, you are never truly separate from the islands.
Such a delight to see The great big ocean So familiar and very cherished With its fragrance of the lîpoa It is lîpoa which washed ashore Onto the shiny white sand Hot from the heating sun as you step on it Don't think that this is fun How enticing is the display of limu kohu Atop the rocks Enticing one to pick them As they sway to and fro Let the story be told Of the lîpoa and the limu kohu Close companions of the pâhe`e Intermingled with the lîpalu
Dale Wilbur: I concur! I have been there 3 x and am booked for a 4th. Hawaii chose me long before I went. A lifelong dream to go and when I did the connection to the aina, its people, music, I am Hawaiian at heart.
@khinkley1 ..Yes you understand the real meaning of a kauna to this song....mahalo for your posting Not too many people understand that this song is actually inappropriate for young ladies to dance to this song because of the kauna to this song....thats why when I read that a 6th grade class danced to this song I was appalled...I am greatful that there is some one who really understands the olelo and explained it well..mahalo Khinkley
Jesus loves you and wants you to follow Him ❤ He is the way, the truth, and the life. I was an atheist for years and practiced some forms of the occult until I had a supernatural encounter with Jesus that profoundly changed my life. The gift of salvation and eternal life is available to all who put their trust in Jesus. He can heal you of the deepest pain, trauma, disease, addictions, and shame. Seek Him with a genuine and humble heart and He will reveal His existence to you.
JUST A WORD TO THE WISE THERE IS A KAUNA TO THIS SONG AND IF YOU REALLY KNOW OR UNDERSTAND THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE IT IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR YOUNG LADIES TO DANCE THIS SONG...A REAL HAWAIIAN OR HULA DANCER KNOW WHAT IT MEANS.

Hi...I think you did a great job! I´m going to visit Hawaii pretty soon...I´d like to purchase this song or cd....can you please tell me who are the musicians, or group playing this song? Thanks!!
This song is really pretty. Can anybody tell me the story behind it? Or it's meaning? I looked up the lyric translation, and still haven't a clue what they are singing about.
Literally, they are singing about seaweed. Lipoa is a kind of flat light green seaweed that is used more as a seasoning than as a vegetable. Limu kohu is also a seaweed used for seasoning but I've only seen it dried in balls, I don't know what it looks like fresh. Limu pahe'e is what the Japanese call 'nori' seaweed, and I don't know what limu lipahu is. When I was a kid, I was told that this song was dirty, that it was actually about a man comparing his lovers to different kinds of seaweed, but you know some people just see sex in everything. It's whatever you want it to be about but the words are about seaweed.
+SophiaPatience As kludge said it is about different plants of the sea. Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai translates as plants of the sea. It was written by Edith Kanakaole.
Literally the song is about the observance of the various types of seaweed in and around the shores of Hawaiʻi. Metaphorically its about sexual freedom, seduction and a return to a familiar pleasure. Sorry for being two years too late.
Does anyone what song this is. This won't be spelled correctly but this is how I heard it.. -- ha iri minah uwe ha op to minah uwe Minah i de tiare na to.... Anyone know what song that is
