    Did this walk last week on a really sunny day-conditions perfect. Not many people about midweek and enjoyed a picnic sat on a rock in the River Hodder just before Cromwell's bridge. Don't forget to turn right at the bridge and go up the hill as far as the bus shelter. Fantastic choice of relaxing music by the way. Who is it singing please? JRD.

    Nice walks and scenery, but why is it called Tolkien's Trail? That's not explained.

      It's named after the writer as he spent a lot of time there whilst writing the Lord of the Rings books during WW2.
      A lot of the countryside gave him inspiration for locations in the books like The Shire & Shirebourn River which could possibly be inspired by Shire lane in Hurst Green and the shireburn arms pub.
