Thankyou so much for this. I have lived in Newcastle upon Tyne for a long time, so don't get to visit anymore. As a young teenager I used to visit the park when it was plain Crompton's Lodges (in the early 60's). It was a much more natural looking area then; the 'big' lake had a few islands, and the lake nearest to the cemetery was completely choked with weed. There was also a small pond not far from the house which myself and friends had decided was frighteningly deep, with no actual evidence! We used to access the lodges by a path down from the cemetery. I presume it's no longer there? Lots of memories. Thanks again.

Great video, thanks for posting. I was brought up on Johnson Fold Estate from the late 60’s through till the early 80’s. I spent many a happy hour as a child down in Barrow Bridge, in those days there use to be a Tuck Shop in the village as I’m sure many of the older generation out there familiar with the area would remember. I should also mention the Boating Lake too but alas, that was filled in before I got the time to enjoy it. Will never forget the 63 Steps and the Cigarette Tunnel further upstream that goes under Scout Road.

Did this walk last week on a really sunny day-conditions perfect. Not many people about midweek and enjoyed a picnic sat on a rock in the River Hodder just before Cromwell's bridge. Don't forget to turn right at the bridge and go up the hill as far as the bus shelter. Fantastic choice of relaxing music by the way. Who is it singing please? JRD.

Does anyone know which train station - Adlington or Blackrod is better to get off at and get the bus to get to the castle and other attractions?

Well I've agreed to go up and down the pike twice tomorrow, and as a fatty, I was a bit worried. But this doesn't look too bad. I'll just take it at a stately pace and see how it goes.

I was about to go to castle field today , having had a medical exam in hardman square , then back to Egypt Brilliant video and now I know exactly where to go! Thank you very much mate A little word about Manchester, I've been here for almost a month, just going to an academy near to the Salford shopping mall and back home in old Trafford, tbh it was rather depressing, everything is dark by 4pm , shops closed by 6 , rain that won't stop etc But just a week ago I was done with the exam and I've been to the city center, art gallery and ppl history museum, arndale center, old Trafford stadium , the Christmas markets ,,,, I started seeing ppl!!! (Screw Salford it's a graveyard where R the ppl 😂) and I'm realy starting to love Manchester, it's a beautiful city tbh and the ppl mostly are nice . Hopefully my castle field walk is nice today, it won't be as sunny sadly hahaha Much love 💖💖

Thanks for this; I now have a visual on the station layout and where exactly I'm meant to be. We'll be walking from Shudehill bus station to here, then train to Liverpool - probably Platform 14 - and it was all a great mystery until now. Ta!

Blackburn's best park, Witton park. My nan lived not far from there, and i can remember my grandad taking me there, for a "Sunday walk".

Remember that area from the mid 60s when I lived near Bolton,did a lot wandering around 👍
