    Hi from Denmark.
    I make beech every year, 20-30 full cords a year. Logs 9 foot long, 10-20" thick, and have done it for 35 year.
    The trees are cut down jan/feb., cut 12" long and split around 3" thickness in april and in aug/sep. the moist is around 15-17%.
    If we get heavy rain I cover it, in that time.

    Beech is the second best firewood, in my opinion, only surpassed by black locust. Around here in the Catskills of New York, there’s plenty that’s left in the woods by the bigger, logging operations, usually perfect firewood diameter sticks that weren’t worth them dragging out, or what they leave behind after they take the stump for the mill. Once it’s on the ground, it rots quick, so get it before the fungus does!

    A question or observation. There is a safety grate to protect the operator. An excellent preventative measure. The videographer really gets into the output from the machine and has no shield in the event of the wood being ejected unexpectedly.

  • @jackseamon7064
    @jackseamon7064 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Beech begins its life out in the woods reaching for all the light its leaves can get. Some branch out 8 to 10 feet in all directions. They blocked my view, ease of walking in the woods, etc. And those branches are what cause so many knots. When I would use a maul to split Beech I'd split it within 2 days of cutting or wait until it was frozen. I had a DR Rapidfire which split it anytime, but it always was easier within 2 days of cutting or if the rounds were frozen. Nice video. 👍

      Joe, I stopped buying those blue tarps years ago. They are too thin and flimsy and don't hold up well at all. The next time you are at harbor freight take a look at the silver tarps. They cost a bit more of course but are much more durable and will last noticeably longer.

    Congratum, finally getting a cover over the machine. And as you say yourself, it'll be so good to work in the shade when it's 90° out in the summer time.
    And instead of just being a conventional round it are upside down, you shape. You should see if they got one. That's like a bat wing shape and that way. You can keep the upright legs close sir, the length of the yapa. It's self, but the outstretched wing would be enough to cover. Half of the live decked and going the other way. It may even cover part of the conveyor or cleaneralthough I know it's not needed back anyways , it'll be interesting to see what it works and looks like

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not where I'm from. All the bigger logs go to the mills in Middlefield. They are worth twice as much there as they are for firewood. With the price of lumber going up the mills are buying smaller and smaller logs which makes things even smaller when they get to my yard. It seems everyone thinks "big" in firewood when i think smaller is the way to go. Smaller machines are cheaper to buy. Here is a vid I was in on a diff channel where I discuss this. Looks like the wood kinda stalls on the way out on the vibrating plate.

    Joe I burn a lot of beech. On my upstate New York property it’s dying . Tops break off and I cut and clean it up. Great burning wood.🪵🔥👍
