That's bc this is where rap originated. On the curbs of the Bronx, where streets rhymes began. It evolved from MCs spitting verse at block parties, to young adults on their building steps entertaining themselves with rap battles to a song track or beat-box. In the beginning, it was mostly in the MC-style of introducing yourself and talking hype about your ability to get women, your criminal exploits, your dreams about getting out of the hood, etc. Then it evolved into including smack talk & insulting your rap adversary for comedic laughs. But for the most part it was always a coping mechanism that involved deconstructing your problems, putting truth to power & to verse, talking about the hustle, venting about the system, expressing the pain of loss & death, etc. It always sounded so cathartic to hear all that history of survival put into rap bars. That's why so much of the best rappers were the ones who focused their music on the struggle.
That is so cool that young students have a place to go and write hip hop. Art is (in my opinion) the best way to get your feelings out, and that is so good that the school is supporting that. That should be in more schools, especially inner city. It gives kids something that they can be really passionate about, and keep them off the street.
I wish my high school had a councillor like that. Those kids' flows are pretty dope and i like their rhyme scheme. Good shit that at least one high school staff cares enough to make sure kids are going on the right path.
Im actually a level 5 regional umpire in all of Quebec (Canada) 😂. It really isn't as easy as people think, to always pay attention to every aspect of the game, and to keep your cool also if a coach contradicts one of your calls. The hardest game i ever had, was for Mosquito AAA (10-12 year olds) a coach punched me because the other coach apealled that i checked the bat of the batter to see if it was a softball bat lol. That was scary.
I don't know why but that last one.... I was freaking sobbing! That is so beautiful and amazing what that guidance counselor is doing! Omg I.... I just, there's such a big problem of poc and men and poor people being unable to express their emotions, and rap is just, so looked down upon, but to use it to help them find their voice, and help them express, and to.... FREG. Like fine I cry easily at sad stuff but I'm not a crying at beautiful things person... Either this REALLY hit home or I'm just feeling raw today.

I was the mascot for a well known baseball team for 5 years, I was a batboy for 4 years prior to that, and I never got any training. I just went out and acted like a 3 year old, and people loved it. I too can agree that it's nice to be able to throw on a persona and have fun as someone else and have no consequences of anyone knowing who you are unless you tell them. Met many crushes, a couple celebrities, and a couple of enemies that way whom had no idea they were interacting with me lmfao.
I actually have a friend who wants to be an auctioneer. He's hilarious and charismatic, and now that I've seen a small peek inside the auctioneer school I can see how he's drawn to the profession.

That Hip Hop Club! Fantastic! My high school has a lot of gang members, group home/foster kids, poor kids - and a lot of them LOVE hip hop. At my school the equivalent is actually working with special education classes. A lot of the gang members work with them, and become legitimate friends of these kids. Some kids from a rival school were going to mess up this one special ed kid - the kid’s friends, can’t remember which gang they were in, found out and some shit was about to go down. Not that any of us minded because they were low enough to target a special ed kid.
