    Nice Video if I knew you guys were tapping trees I would’ve come over and given Shane a little help and guidance on running lines. There’s a few things I see that should be done differently. One is longer drop lines they should be a minimum of 24” one tap per drop line and no more than 15 taps per lateral line. I used to do maple syrup with a old guy that I was going to buy from him it had 3000 taps on pipe lines that ran to his sugar house. I helped him two years but then I was diagnosed with cancer and that ended that business. He ended up selling it to another guy that I have become good friends with and have helped him out some. He now has expanded it to about 15 thousand taps and still adding more taps. If you guys would like to see his operation let me know I would be more than happy to take you guys on a tour of his maple operation

    • @shanebell9589
      @shanebell9589 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting, I don’t think I’ve heard of needing to limit taps per lateral line, but ya this is def a rough learning curve

      @keithmcallister4917 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shanebell9589 I would be more than happy to come and give you some pointers on installing sap line. The thing is if you have too many taps on a line it will actually slow down your sap flow especially when it runs really well.

    Strange weather here in southern Ontario daytime temps 69°F and 61°F today and tomorrow and overnight temps of 37°F & 46°F. So temperatures are not even falling below freezing for two days.
    That would probably have people using the buckets to deal with the sap overflowing. The temperatures don't get below freezing until Thursday and that only at 31°F. Just wondering with climate change affecting us here in Ontario how long the Maple Syrup industry will survive in Ontario. At least the southern part of Ontario. We have communities here in Ontario that have a yearly Maple Syrup Festival to raise money for there community. Keep up your great work on the videos. Lots of different topics and coverage. Thank You

    Molly Shane you only learn if you do the job right? being a out of the box engineer, designer, builder.. people told me what i do will never work. i said why did you do it? nope they said won't work so why do it.. funny now everyone is using used grain Bins for homes cabins outside spaces. My brother was skeptical about my work until i took him with and showed him a hundred foot grain bin, 40 foot across, all underground made into a house. All run by water and a pump. and then sometimes the solar turned on. But this place has 8 levels and all the conveniences of a normal home and it is immune to storms and fires...so do and learn it makes dreams come true. can't wait to see the finished product. have fun take care enjoy it is what life is about.. an adventure....

    I wondered if you guys tapped maple trees.
    I'm in eastern Upstate NY and with our lack of a snowpack slowly melting into the soil I suspect it's going to be a poor maple sugaring season.
    During World War II sugar was rationed so lots of folks tapped maple trees for a sugar substitute. Many also boiled down finished syrup to make granulated maple sugar as well.

    Shane - that was interesting. Seen many people tap for maple syrup but not like that. was this your idea or did you get it from someone else. I wasn’t sure if you mentioned it in the video. Every time I see it done, after it gets reduced it seems much thinner in consistency than what you buy in the store. I wonder does the flavor and sweetness intensify the more you reduce it?

      I know a lot of people/companies online systems, not really sure the finer details, but I’m more the do some research and trial and error the rest, so we’re on the trial and error portion of sap collection.and yes, the more you boil it down/ reduce it, the sweeter it gets.
