- In the late 90s, early 2000s, Stomile Swift was that guy! When the word potential is thrown around, it's usually used when speaking on prospects like him. Had all the physical tools, came up in a solid era for his skillset, and was living up to his potential all the way to becoming the #2 overall pick in the NBA draft. But then what Happened? What reasons didn't he have the career many expected? Here's 3. Stromile Swift Stunted Growth.

If Stromile Swift had a Jumper, Would he have made a better pro? www.stuntedgrowth3.com
He definitely would of stood a chance of having a longer and more bountiful career
Definitely!! He would’ve lasted longer with a post game as well.
Give him +5 ppg with a Jay, wiuld have opened up his drives to the rim
Yea a jumper would have been a asset that could had made him a slightly better pro ,he would have been better then Jamario Moon and Carlos Rogers .or similar to Walter McCarthy,Keon Clark type but he still never develop a floor game.
That blue STUNTED Hoody look Dope .
Dude had one of the dopest names of all time lol crazy bounce too smh
I agree, it went well with playign style. he was like a real life side0kick super hero
one of the most vicious in-game dunkers!
All facts!!
Sad part is that's all he was
My point exactly why he needs one bro 💯
RS
@@ProdbyGrimeyred he could throw back shots too.
Stromile Swift was a hood classic dude booming aka dunking on everybody dude was on 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 💯
Stro bunnies was crazy and he dunked mad vicious.
I remember that one game when he was playing for the Grizzlies and he did 2 handed windmill, off of one step. That was crazy
A lot of those hyper athletic dudes in the late 90s and early 2000s had no jumpshot. Namely Ricky Davis, Darius Miles and Stromile Swift.
Which is sad because it's the easiest thing to develop.
Ricky Davis had a nice mid range game. His shot was nice. Just wasn't a high percentage 3 point shooter
Ricky can shoot. Dude loves to catch the ball off the screen and shoot at midrange jumper.
Some 1 trick ponies
Darius miles I liked he's game for some reason. But he was reaching he's potential with Portland then got injured. And he relied on he's athletism alot. And back then it's still around but more before guys came from the hood it comes down fundamentals. These days different with the young guys. Not only bounce gotta work footwork etc.
Damn his mugshot he lookn like the 5th member of onyx
Yung stro stro 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
4:40 those LSU jerseys are some of the most "90s" things I've seen 😁
That whole draft class is a stunted growth
Maybe except Jamal Crawford, but yeah
Facts
Bruh..lots of dudes I like personally but yes🤣
🤣
U not lying ill tell ya that
Great video bro! Stromile and Kenyon had to be my favorite power forward dunkers of the early 00s. The hops and power on those dunks was next to none!
Amare Stoudemire was better than both.
One of the best in game dunkers I have ever seen
i agree, something about the way he just catch the ball off the backboard and throw it down all with one hand and one motion is just incredible.....he just made the move seem soo effortless.
I'm not sure.. Where would u rank him?
Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to a stunted growth series on the Vancouver Grizzlies lmaoo
They had a bunch of talented young prospects in every draft it seems like.
Bruhhhh!!! 💀💀😂😂😂😭🤣🤣🤣🤣⚰️⚰️⚰️ I swear I don't even remember seeing Bryant Reeves playing but remember him being a crowd favorite 🤣🤣😭😭😂😂😂💀💀⚰️⚰️⚰️ mind you those were my middle school and High School years 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Krazy thing him and Tyrus Thomas remind me so much of each other as ball players maybe alil more hustle on tyrus end but both had real potential to be better.
I was waiting on this is one of my favorite players on 2K oh my bad NBA live LOL rookie season Memphis beast mode
This was Tyrus Thomas before Tyrus Thomas lmao
Especially when he dunked on Thomas
His greatest dunk of all time ironically was literally on Tyrus😭 Dude fuckin pulverized his ass gotta be the loudest dunk ever
Yes
I remember when he put his nutts on Dirk head, 2nd most disrespectful dunk I ever seen next 2 Vince jumped over that 7'2 dude.
Stro might not have been the best player but he always got you out of your seat and put on a show.
I love this channel, so much nostalgia. A lot of the players featured are dudes I looked up 2 in high school and tried 2 emulate. Salute 2 u Mr Stunted Growth
You made me laugh on that one ....stunt number 1.....BRITTLE wasn't expecting that 🤣😁
Stromile Swift and many players with his skill constantly prove that being a great athlete doesn't equal being a great basketball player. Like Lamar Odom said "The game is called basketball not run and jump." Unfortunately many coaches, GMs, and fans get fooled into thinking otherwise.
Starting to think it was an LSU curse:
Stro
Tyrus Thomas
Anthony Randolph
All should’ve been Kenyon Martin at the bare minimum.
@@zeroturn7091 LSU also had SHAQ tho..curse? lol
@@theadmiral460 yeah I ran out on that one.
@Chris Sams he was, all I’m saying is that they should’ve been able to put together a similar career. Best case scenario Antonio McDyess in his prime.
@@zeroturn7091 good comparison..to me his play style always reminded me of Walter McCarty turned up
I ‘m glad Desmond Mason developed a decent jumper giving him a longer shelf life in the league.
Stromile played the same amount of seasons than Desmond Mason! Just saying
@@geraldrobinson2658 Desmond had an overall better career than Stromile. Swift wasn’t really one of those guys you really knew about unless you looked him up.
Stromile stayed in the NBA for 12 years! That's better than most careers!
He's got some of the Craziest in game dunks I've ever seen..that baptism of Tyus is always great view!. Tyus gotta be the next SG feature if he hasn't already been done..Can't believe the bulls traded LaMarcus for him..
“Outside shot hell no”😂😂
He ain't a bust he home town hero !!
Born in 79', from the same state and went to LSU so I really wanted good things for the dude.
Played with him 2 summers here in LA at what is now called the “Rico Runs” up at UCLA. Mannn, a lot of times I would just get to the middle of the lane when he was on my team, and just lob it. The dunks he came up with were like “NBA JAM”! He would dunk it backwards over 2 or 3 people and make it look as easy as a reverse layup! He always picked me to play on his team and I loved playing with him. I’ve never played with a big who dunked like that and swatted shots like that. I think some of the problem for him was “fit” and by that I mean the right team. He could’ve easily been that guy coming off the bench for a championship team🤷🏾♂️ Plus he was one of the coolest dudes ever
I had to guard him during a high school game, I think it was 1997. I was 6'3", he was around 6'8"- 6'10". It was a home game for us (Sulphur, Louisiana). Needless to say, I was ecstatic that he only scored in the low twenties on me, instead of my friends and family having to watch him hang 40 or 50 points on me...
No one cares....
That dunk on Tyrus Thomas you featured was naaaaaasty. It's crazy how eerily similar Tyrus Thomas and Stromile Swift are if you think about it
Never understood why any NBA player (bust or All-Star) wouldn't want towork on expanding their game. Whether you're a one-dimentional bust like Swift or Ben Simmons (who should be in the gym RIGHT NOW putting up 300-500 j's), you should not only be playing for your next big contract, but didn't you also join the league to be one of the best who ever played?
Unfortunately this generation only seems to b concerned with just getting to the league and even the ones wit some game only care about getting that big contract ie Andrew wiggins
They could/should have worked on their games in college. By staying in school longer or by simply going. They were so used to dominating lesser competition all their lives but got a rude awakening when they got to the league and realized that everyone there had game, plus the size to dominate them. They were so used to being men amongst boys, big fish in little ponds until they went pro and found out quickly they were boys amongst men. Guppies in an ocean full of sharks 🦈.
some players dont have the coordination or talent to be a good jumpshooter or all round player. Being a good athlete doesnt mean your going to be a good player. Look at players like curry or larry bird not the best athletes at their positions but superior in skill to other players.
Yo, Stormile is the GOAT
I like how you made videos of players that had potential but never could be more than that or Underdog players . You sir have got yourself a subscriber!
Yessir!!! He's one I asked for!!! Now ALL I need is Lawrence Moten and I'll be satisfied 👍great work!
Moten was ma guy at Syracuse
Moten Moten Moten!!! We waiting!!
You should be satisfied already
@@dsg3053 do you feel better now?
he was more famous from a line on a Lloyd Banks mixtape.
"I got the grizzlies on my back like Stromile Swift"
yes! I was waiting for a video on Stromile!
You did it again JC little known fact his LSU team that lost to Arkansas had a little known guard who just put up over 10,000 pts named Joe Johnson and another beast on that squad was Brandon Dean. LSU had Torris Bright and the boi Corliss Temple. Stro didn’t have a jumper and defensively he couldn’t shut anyone down . He was supposed to be what KG was. Stro showed so much potential and we just remember the dunking him and Chris Porter of Auburn
Are guys that were good in college but just didn’t elevate their game in the pros
Watch it homie! Here in Memphis - the Stro Show lives on forever in the spirit of Grit & Grind Nation!
Very Kemp-like in terms of athleticism, but Kemp obviously more skilled in other areas of the game at the N.B.A. level. Amazing considering Shawm Kemp barely spent one minute in college.
Stro had us throwing the wings up for everything when we played pickup....layup? throw the wings up....behind the back assist? throw the wings up....crossover? throw the wings up
The stro show 😤👐
Nice to see a Louisiana baller video! Any chance we could get one on Tyrus Thomas, Lester Earl, or Ryan Francis (All from my hometown, Baton Rouge!!)?
my BOY!! straight from Shreveport LA ( & not even the best NBA player to come from there)..btw another "bust" spent time in the area as well...MARCUS FIZER
Thanks big homie you really did drop one for the CULTURE 💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Ain't gonna lie.... I thought Stromile was gonna be a BEAST. I was wrong.
If youved dunked on NBA Hall of Famers you are a beast. That man can tell his grandkids he banged on Yao Ming and Dirk Nowitzki.
Few people would consider Kenyon Martin a bust, especially considering the talent available in that draft clwss
I wouldn't say Kenyon was a bust...he played a REALLY long time, and was productive for a while, and made an all-star team. He was probably the second best player on a team that went to the finals twice....so yeah, definitely not a bust, especially when you compare him to the rest of the doodoo that was the 2000 draft class
God i Iove these videos. It's like a warped stroll down memory lane, featuring all the guys I've been criticizing for years and years.
Who is the bigger disappointment, Swift or another long athletic LSU guy, Tyrus Thomas?
I have to say Thomas, considering he was traded for Lemarcus Aldridge and was somehow even less impactful than Swift.
"Warped" 😂 salute man ✌🏾️
Did you do hakim warrick
That bang out he had on tyrus Thomas another stunted candidate at 2:33 just nasty!!!
He should’ve stayed all four years with Louisiana state that way he’d develop his game (more specifically his jump shot)
I don't think it would have made much difference his basketball IQ was extremely low
@@christopherowens477 I think it would have a lot of difference but you got to realize that Stromile was predicted to be the best player in college if he stayed. Eras made this decision for him because he could have been drafted out of high school. Now all the media is saying you're the best in college basketball. Hence to why he was #2 in the draft! Just saying
@@geraldrobinson2658 I agree with you there. It was gonna be tough for him to come back when at the time he was potentially gonna be the #1 pick in the draft. His athleticism was through the roof but I just didn’t see the IQ. He could make Sportscenter I just didn’t see enough of the plays that impact winning. And he played for some decent coaches in the NBA if I remember right
It seemed as if All he could do was Dunk tho and block shots. If he worked on other aspects of his Game maybe things would have turned out diffrent for Sto swift.. then when they got Paul Gasol stro became expandable cause all he could do was make exciting dunks. And Paul could do some of everything.
Good to see another video SG.
Aye You can’t miss brother love the channel salute
considering he came out at a time where dunking was a really huge thing and he was in one bigbubble with the likes of : jason richardson, vince carter, dwayne wade just to name a few (Literally) . i mean for him to be such a standout dunker as a big man was very big. i always wish him and the rockets coulda made more things happen cause they really had an awesome team and size
Im sure theres a tyrus thomas video?
Exactly who Swift was a mirror image of
@@354allday wassup with all them LSU Bigs flashin out except Shaq
He did that one like two years ago
Hasheem Thabeet too
Anthony Randolph
Man do Jordan Crawford ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
He did a Jordan Crawford already‼️‼️‼️‼️
He already did along time ago
Do Joe Crawford
I hope you get around to covering Marcus Fizer. That draft year turned out to be pretty weak.
I was waiting on his joint .. dope video fam. With a name like swift and all that athleticism buddy could of branded his self sum thin serious .. guess not 🤷🏽♂️
I remember Stromile was that player where potential was always the primary description for him. Into his 30's.
Shreveport,,stand up
Dope video keep them coming
I ave another suggestion - HAROLD ARCENEAUX , the original Dame Lillard
mann he was one of the greatest in game dunkers of all time
Damn @Stunted Growth you making me feel old I was in my early 20's when this cat was playing. He def should of had a longer career.
Do Deshawn Stevenson, Dajuan Wagner, Or Maybe Darius Miles
This is my boy.
Everyone used to be waiting on this guy to get it going. This is a great example of when you're younger and someone older that knows you comes over and is like "stop practicing fancy lay ups (or in his case dunks)" and work on your game. I think that's why a lot of freak athletes don't develop an actual game. Imagine someone on him about that. He could've been insane. Still fun though to watch his dunks again though.
Always been curious about Bobby Simmons, i swear he was nice for a year and won MIP
Dude was super athletic but no jumper, another great video homie
MAAAAN!!!!!! He was a monster on NBA LIVE 05......get inside the lane it was curtains. Gasol was a beast tho....he was on the European-cover version of NBA LIVE while Duncan was on the US cover.
my cousin lived next door to stromile during his high school years. he was a cool dude.
Thanks for the insight. Thought it was gonna be more juicy though.
What i mean is i was hoping to hear more insider information like comments from people that played with him or a bit more of interesting takes on him. He was my favourite dunker after vince carter
I love the channel. I would love to see a stunted growth story on John Williams from Los Angeles. who went to LSU. and Jim Jackson out of Toledo then went to Ohio State
I remember Gasol’s early days with the Grizzlies
Yes I was screaming his name faithfully that year Pau gasol was on 🔥
Have you done a video on Allan Houston and Shareef Abdur Raheem..? If not those would be dope..! 💯💯
One of the best
Do Robert swift big homie 💯💯🔥🔥
What a lousy, poorly thought out video. Was waiting patiently for you to actually discuss Stromile’s defense, but it seems like defense isn’t even important to you. All we get from your commentary is that he occasionally blocked shots “into the second row.” But you mention 20/10 as if that’s something we should care about! Why ignore defense in this manner? You take completely unsubstantiated shots at Stromile’s IQ, but I think it’s yours that should be in question. In his season with the Rockets, Stromile blocked over 60 shots. Juwan Howard, who was one of their leaders in minutes played and starter over Swift, had only 8. There’s no basketball reason that explains why a “defense minded coach” would favor a guy like Juwan who didn’t play defense. Then we see commentary like yours, that completely ignores defense, and it all starts to come together...
That dunk against the bulls was one of the best ever, hands down
Do Erick Barkley!!!
I thought he was gonna be Kemp or Amare. I was wrong
I know. Athletic 4 with hops. Mcdyess Blake etc... He was supposed to be cold but was traah
@@Animal_Cub not trash necessarily. He could ball, but it takes a lot of hunger to play in the NBA. Atleast he got his youtube moments in the NBA. He lived a dream many of us wish we could.
Tyrus Thomas was the same type of player. What’s up with LSU getting these tall lanky dunkers who end up as busts in the NBA?
Absolutely love your content
All style and no substance. He never materialized as a complete player.
he could have been the perfect Center in today's NBA
1:23 for the younger generations, kenyon martin, marcus fizer, chris mihm, darius miles, and mike miller(not sure on this one).
you see this build a lot in nba 2k20
His dunks really did look like something out of 2K. He was the original modern athletic Center archetype. Max wingspan, skinny and lanky asl, and max vertical
Can you do a video on Ndudi Ebi? "The Lebron Stopper" 😂?
You could count on him to have one good dunk worthy the ticket price to watch the bad teams he was on
Stro vs Warrick vs Tyrus Thomas, which is your favorite in game dunker?
Stro
Damn, that 2000 draft was probably the worse draft in NBA history. So many busts and underachieving players. Not one perennial all-star in that draft.
Need that Tyrus Thomas vid
Damn I left the same comment. LOL 😂🤣
SG yeah ! It’s me again I have two names that were definitely stunted Jim Jackson and Jamal Mashburn, I really thought JJ was better than the journeyman he turned out to be.
Stomile Swift was an insane athlete tough Like a Superhero

You haven't done a video of a Duke player in a while. So how about Cory maggette?
✌🏾️
Magette had a solid career tho. He wasn't stunted, just on bad teams.
@@chrisisslick you can say that about half of the players he has a video on... Hell, wrong team usually be one of the stunts🤷🏾♂️
@@youreagoddamngenius9099 good point but in his case, he wasn't projected to be a star that didn't reach his potential like Kenny Anderson or Derrick Coleman. He was solid but not a star.
He is a man of faith and doing well teaching kids about The LORD at Word Of God Ministries. WOGM
Have you done harold minor yet?
Yessir!✊🏾
2:33 My goodness!!
My boy Stro !!
Speaking of the grizzles, do a story on either big country Reeves or micheal Dickerson
I remember this man as a great in game dunker
Stro was catching bodies in LSU by the bunches. Dude had pogo sticks for legs.
