    When I'm craving Pho but am lazy I use the chicken broth (Walmart brand stock) for my Pho with the Pho drop in spice bags. I put in ginger and onion too along with some lime but you definitely need the Pho bouillon cubes or the Pho spice bags!! I get a whole rotisserie chicken from the deli too ..Comes out perfect!!

    I think I'd like to try this. I usually spice up Campbell's regular broth so I could probably add some extra stuff to make it more flavorful.

  • @liekabauz
    @liekabauz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I dont think you know what the "ready to use, do not dilute" means. Diluting means you lessen the concentration by using a liquid, like water. It doesn't mean not to add anything else into the broth, just dont water it down.

    • @toysngod4ihs2005
      @toysngod4ihs2005 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      liekabauz It's watered down already, the company didn't listen to what it says on the package.

    Was happy to have this as a part of my rotation when I was a poor graduate student living on my own with not much time to cook real pho. Boiled some daikon in it to add some sweetness and have some more vegetables in my diet, and added some fish sauce (as you suggest). Overall, it does the job, especially on a budget!

  • @DSKSeattle
    @DSKSeattle 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think “Do Not Dilute” just means don’t add water. I don’t think adding salt or fish sauce is diluting. I wonder if they have this in the states.

    I just found a Pho Beef broth at Aldis grocery store. I'm not sure if you have them where you are, but the ingredients are all things I know and can pronounce. It is produced in Canada. Brand is Fusia. It has a recipe on the back of the box as well. I haven't tried it just yet as I was getting my chicken pho game down.

  • @cantgetright4241

    What about hooking it up? Like add fish sauce, ginger, onions, star anise, clove, fennel, coriander, cardamom pods? Just reinforce the pho flavor? Maybe get away with about a 30 minute broth? Idk I’m just wondering if you could get close in half an hour.

    i use it when i want to make soup quickly, but add fish sauce, fresh grated ginger and garlic, chopped shallots, hoisin and sriracha. like you say, Quang, it's a good base to start with, and that's about it.

  • @jgriffin9084

    typically Campbell's is condensed, so instructions tell you to dilute with cups of water or milk. the "ready to use" is to indicate that you do not need to to that.

    Do not dilute just means dont add water...but you can still add other ingredients for flavoring. When ever I buy anything already pre-done like sauces I always add other herbs, spices to adjust it to my liking. Maybe Campbell's is just to cut down the time for making the broth.

    I just saw the amount of sodium in that stuff and immediately put it back on the shelf. You can make a quick and dirty version of pho with unsalted beef broth and add half a charred onion, charred ginger, some star anise, cinnamon stuck, coriander seed and cardomom and let that simmer for about 20-30 minutes.
    It's not the same as making the broth from scratch but it's good enough for those cold days when you don't want to really cook.

    Do you think you could add ingredients to get it close? You should do a video on it.

    Lack means "missing something" I am used to buying stuff and making it my own, so in a "hurry" you can take that broth and add your sauce and seasonings and a touch of collagen and whipping cream and BAM much closer to the real thing when in a hurry.

    I really wonder. How come the resterant pho noodle is a different texter from the home pho. Is tge texture different. Or what is it lol

      Hey Thong! Great question. Either the brand of noodles or the noodles has been over cooked. Usually at restaurants 2:17 this is the type of noodles they use. At home, when my mom makes pho. She always over cook the noodles or cook the noodles and set to the side, which is pretty much over cooked. At restaurants, they use the brand I showed you and do each bowl to order, which leads to more of a chew to the noodles.

    Yeah lac (don’t know how to spell it) is plain. It’s like whenever someone cooks something and forgot to add any salt & seasoning to it.

    It would be good to know whether you thought it was good after adding fish sauce or whatever you like. That would be more helpful to us if we knew that adding a little of something would make it good or not.

    i love pho but have to watch my budget... just made this version for the first time which included french onion canned soup (walmart brand .50) bought shaved steak for $6 (five servings per pack), drop in star anise, ginger, jalapeno, regular noodles on hand, then add steak at end then top w/ some fresh cilantro, green onions, siracha and lime juice... had no fish sauce but it still turned out great for cheap QUICK pho... very full from one can...

    Dextrose is just another name for sugar. It’s in almost all foods as a sweetener. (But usually you’ll see it as glucose, corn syrup etc)
    That stock is practically just watered down beef stock lol

    I guess it says suitable for vegetarians so that's why it's missing that beef marrow and richness from fish sauce.

    Add some fish sauce, msg, & black pepper my friend. The instant phos never ever taste like the real thing. One brand I enjoy that is closest for instant is the "phomenal" brand from Seattle wa. My favorite though is the nongshim brand one. They know they can't make it the same so they add more flavor to it & it even included a little Sriracha packet lol

    You should do a review of the pho broth on amazon, all you do is add water.

    Lack means Void as in Ain't Got😆 I would imagine it was Yuk. As you said the Broth IS the Foundation. The dextrose is s stabilizer yeast extracts add flavor..so they say. I don't have a Pho place within a Hundred miles But I Don't think I'll substitute it with This. Love your videos and Zeal for Food😘
