No "X" screams "No Beaver" fur. Beaver makes the best hats, with natural water repellent qualities. Here in Western Washington, our rains would destroy anything less in no time. If I remember southern rains, I would think it's true there as well. Resistol makes plenty of good hats with high Beaver felt. Should have sold him one of those.

If you rodeo I would have it pretty tight, but not uncomfortably tight. If youre in the stands you dont need it so tight because youre sitting there not riding a horse,bull,etc.
Every major hat company and professional hat shaper that I've had custom shape my hats at the NFR, Houston Rodeo, or other hat stores in Texas tell me not to steam "INSIDE" the hat because it's not good on the leather head band. Yet here the first thing I see is a lot of steam inside the hat????? 6:28 - 6:38??? Really. So you can steam the side's first then shape the crown??? 6:50 = 7:04??? I bet those called to hat shape at the NFR for one of the biggest hat retailer's would argue that it IS as craft!!! I range from Stetson, to American, Resistol. All are excellent hats; beaver quality does make a huge difference as moisture wicks off must nicer on the better beavers. I'm hard on hats and wear straw and felt year around in the arena, and on my job. So yes I think I can vouch for my comments and having the pleasure of some excellent hat shapers.

I have a stetson felt as my goin out hat, lol ur resistol is as old as me lol but I got an Atwood straw as my workn hat, lookin for a GOOD felt hat, good water resistance, longevity, comfort, live in South TX but like the feel of felt compared to straw
Got my husband a 10x beaver fur, winter hat. It's been steamed and the brim was trimmed also. Still after36yrs, it FITS like a glove still.

You should never steam the inside of a hat, it could damage the leather sweatband.
