Thanks for uploading this... a few days ago, my monitor on my Neo Geo Cab died, I got it checked out and there is no hope, This vid has given me new hope!!
I like that you make videos like this. Covering the "basic" stuff one would wonder what is/does when new to our hobby. Not too many doing stuff like this.
I found out that the people who have issues with certain games (including me) is that the firmware that's loaded onto the converter isn't compatible with the games that have issues. The ones that Jammaboards(.)com sells have the updated Firmware and work just fine. Make sure wherever you get these from that they have updated Firmware.
hey! that looks familiar, oh wait, i just bought that from you earlier today! thanks, it works great and you are right, it couldn't be easier. now i gotta re-think the cabinet i am going to build, since i can do a half jamma half mame cabinete or a jamma mame xbox cabinete or... having the extra inputs gives you a lot of options. i will post a video of whatever i end up building. this will be my 7th mama or custom built cabinet!
okay i have a working arcade monitor coming with this board [as it was used for silver strike bowling] will this work with my nes composite to vga input cable ?
Thank you for sending that diagram. My situation is better thanks to you but it still occasionally goes blank for a second. I need to sit down and slowly adjust.
got my converter in the mail today!!!!!!!!!! Now to find a beatup old monitor to use it on!! And also figure out wtf to do with my crazy ass old monitor board connections that seem to directly effect the play of the game!!
I bought one to use on my mvs. Trying it out on a computer monitor (Dell 2208wfp) and it doesnt look so great even after adjusting pots. I'll try it on my tv and see how it looks.
Does this convertor board add any input lag? I want to play fighting games on my Blast City as arcade perfect as possible, but unfortunately it does not have the original jamma edge monitor.
Moomert1, is this the adapter you are talking about with signal added or this adapter something else because now it's CGA and is that different then what i'm talking about for my CRT monitor?
I left you a message in your inbox on here and I don't know if you read it and I also left a link from Amazon about a adapter that looks like this one here so can you please check the link and see if that's it so that way I can order it soon.
I hope this works to hook my cherry masters board to an lcd monitor.when you say we need to hook the 5 wires to the pins on the converter, are the pins labeled to show us which wire goes on what pin..? And if I wanted to connect my cherry masters board to my flat screen smart t.v. could I do that is the same fashion and come out to HDMI using a different convertor..? I don't know what's available or how to go about it. Thanks for your time I apologize for this comment coming a yr late, but I did enjoy the video you make it sound pretty simple.
I wanted one of these shenanigans for the longest, never got around to getting one thou, at the time I was looking for a less costly way to play games in high resolution
Hi,I just watched your video. Thanks for sharing .My question is will this adaptor work on older low res games?.I am trying to restore a 1980 Phoenix arcade coin op,it has the regular wires that you talked about in your video. please let me know thanks Ray
That’s not a bad idea at all. Pc monitors are pretty good in terms of quality I mean the CRt ones. But you need to somewhat adapt them that can’t be easy inside the cabinet
Unfortunately no. and I don't have this unit anymore. have you tried the 4 buttons in the corner. If I remember correctly, there was a signal finder button.
Hello! I have a question that may sounds stupid but you say in the video that the black wire goes to the ground of the power supply and the red to the 5V but in my power supply I have two different 5V one is (5V 1A) and the other is (5V 15A) so my question is what is the right one?
What type of cab do you have? I have never seen a power supply like that. I would first hook it up to the 1A. What part of your cab is hooked up to the 15A part?
great video man! one question, this adapter works if I want to connect an original xbox to a cga monitor? the xbox would be wheter rca or yuv. Or do you know if that adpater exists?
moomert1 I've tried 2 completely different monitors and the problem still occurs and I've tried 2 different games (Sega Sky Target and Konami GTI Club).
I have a Neo Geo MVS model MV-1C and the power supply is the model JY-03 and in the label says; INPUT: 110VAC/220VAC OUTPUT: DC +5V 12A NOR (15A MAX) DC -5V 1A (MAX) DC +12V 2.5A Now I found the manual of the video converter online and it says: "The power requirement for the GBS-8220 is +5VDC +/- .5VDC @ 2A. If the power supply cannot put out 2AMP then it may cause problems with the on-board converter CPU. Usually this converter PCB would be connected directly to an arcade game power supply which puts out +5VDC up to 15A current." So I understand then that my red wire should go connected to the +5V 15A. Am I right?
moomert1 Sese Cabo hi guys, how do you use this Arcade CGA to VGA Monitor Convertor in order to consolize a MV-1C MVS? I'm planning to do this but actually only heart about These JROK and Neobitz Encoders. Can you please give me an advice?
Hello, i can't seem to find where to attach the cable that came with the adapter. I have a SNK Neo Geo. Do you have any photo of the place where i should attach the cable? (where is the CGA output from the motherboard?) Thanks
Hello,I was wondering if there is a adjustment on the gbs8220 video converter that I can adjust to keep the screen from occasionally going blank for a few seconds.I am using it in a 1980 low res arcade the Phoenix. The picture looks amazing, but I really need to keep the screen from going blank, because that ruins the game because alien birds are still shooting at you while the screen is blank. Is the blank screen because the gbs8220 can't process the info fast enough? would this work to convert a composite signal from home computers that have an RCA output: 1 video, 1 audio? I've got an Atari 130XE that I'd like to convert to VGA
@bjordan314 It should work with medium resolution games. However gun games may be different. Some gun games require a CRT monitor and will not work on a flatscreen VGA monitor.
The GBS board does not have any kind of audio ADC, so this is impossible. The only way to do this is with an external device to combine the audio and video.
@@AndehX I have already tried an audio injector. It does work but with mixed results. I plug the +5 volt and ground to it and when I turned on the changes letters spear but after 10 seconds it when off and the light of the vga adaptor when off I turn it off and on and it didn't turn on. So I plug it to the +12 volts and the light on the vga adaptor just blinks I'm using a pc power supply am I doing something wrong here?

Biggest 4:3 LCD I have ever seen is a 20inch. No the picture will not he the same on am LCD compared to a CRT. You can get a wide screen TV and shove it in there but be prepared to make sure it fits. And just force a 4:3 picture on it. You can get around a 23 inch 4:3 imagine on a wide screen TV that can fit. Good luck. BTW if your CRT works.... I would not bother replacing it.

@@atrain818 if your picture is otherwise fine, this should solve it. Wht you see in the video is an older model. I believe newer models have more bang for the buck. On the older CRT monitors, they would have a small knotty turn to fix the sync issue. Not sure about newer lcd monitors.
@@moomert1 my bad. I meant HORIZONTAL lines. Not vertical. Black lines running across the screen. I had to reread my post. Sorry, was half asleep earlier. Will that make a difference?
I have a super pacman . Dead screen. I've seen your video regarding simple monitor fixes. No neck glow. No luck on that. I would like to put an LCD in the cabinet, but the cabinet is original. Not a Jamma . Please help.
How do I go from VGA to CGA though? I have an old konami cabinet that was converted to golden tee classic and the monitor works fine, I want to scrap the old motherboard and set up a PC to run a MAME cabinet with a real CRT.
Thanks for the well informed video man. I had a few questions about this stuff but if you ask around the arcade forums, you get a verbal assault over how stupid you are. Great information for the not so electrical inclined.
cncmeredith I really can't say for sure. I have never owned a 2 monitor cab. however I would imagine that if only 1 set of wires hook ups for to one monitor, then the pic gets Daisy chained to the other monitor some how, I would think you only need one of these units
Can you run a VGA cable to the "in" from a computer and another VGA cable to the "out" to the monitor, or is there another input that I need to take into consideration for my MAME cabinet?
moomert1 I am trying to go to CGA so that the arcade games I have won't look so pixelated and blocky. (I am using a computer monitor) I thought the signal that was coming out of the computer was CGA when emulating the game and that's why it showed up so blocky. If this is not the case, what can I use so I can smooth out the graphics on the computer monitor?
The only thing I could recommend would be to use a tri sync monitor. I had a MAME cabinet and I used a tri sync (vga connection) and the graphics were not blocky.
moomert1 Sorry to bother you again, but did you use the CGA VGA converter board WITH the Tri snyc or was the CGA/VGA converter just not used. BTW I appreciate you answering my questions.
I hooked up the VGA adapter. I can here the game the screen came up green after pushing the down button and than letting go. The Chinese writing came up and the menu I scrolled through. But the screen is green. Please help. Thanks
Out of curiosity, do you have arcade machines out there in a commercial setting? (forgive me if you mentioned this before). It would seem logical since you know how to service/repair them.
Hello. so basically I get this device, solder red green blue ground and sync to it and can I connect my monitor to my pc? is that what this can do? thanks
yes that is what it's supposed to do. you also need to power this unit via your aracde power supply. you power it from 5 volts. this adapter has a built in sync detect
I am using the dual output with this model (RGB/CGA/EGA/YUV to VGA Arcade Hd Video Converter Board Dual Output) with a 1980 Ms. Pacman Cabaret. I have everything connected (RGB and GND) but, I only have one H.Sync GND. I do not have a V.Sync. I am not sure where to go from here? Would you happen to know what I need to do to get it running? Thanks,
Jeremy Marshall I have never had a working pacman cab so I cant say for sure......however I would just connect the one sync wire you have to the single sync pin. Wait........shouldn't your wiring have both H and V sync? If so, connect them together and then connect to the single sync pin on the convertor.
moomert1 So, I am able to get it working, but the video gets wavy and then it appears that the adapter resets (Screen goes black and the Asian writing pops up). Any ideas? I have tried different power supplies to makes sure the amperage was correct too? Thanks again.
Jeremy Marshall Did you make sure the power supply was putting out the correct voltage? On the downside, some of these adapters have been known to have issues. Do you have another cab to test the convertor with?
The convertor does not care if you have jamma or non jamma. Assuming your machine has basic red blue green ground and sync hook up, then this convertor should work.
Ive seen your garage setup with the SIMPSONS and the Lard O Lad toy on top for sale on craigslist! I thought your garage looked familiar!!! Ive seen your posts "FOR SALE" on craigslist...small world!
Thanks for answering. Well I searched a little bit and found a vid and looks like the ones selling at Jammaboards have this updated firmware to them, which make the MK as well others low frequency boards sync properly. I'll give a try since I'm just tired of spending time/Money with my arcade monitor/tube, better stick with superguns.. Thanks again.
moomert1 OK weird cause I have a Pandora's box 4 hooked up to it through VGA and when I hook up to my trimode arcade monitor 1 15/24/31hz everything just shows up scrambled and green. no picture... Humm a red light comes on on the board is that normal?
Oh Chuckles, once again you make me laugh. For anyone who is interested, the person behind this "katy holmes" alias is none other then everyones favorite tubby scammer. We all know who he is.
Bought one, finally arrived, and guess what? For fast scrolling games like shooters, the screen atempts to sync every 3 secs or so, causing a little "skip". It's almost unnoticeable, but gets annoying for a while. The image is beautiful however. For me, it's okay for fighting games... but unfortunately, I feel like throwing my money away. Again.
@MrJimits Well I can't say for sure since I don't know what your current hardware consists of. However, assuming you have a cabinet that was built up from nothing to be a Mame cab. You will need a power supply, jamma harness, cga to VGA adapter (if you have a VGA cab). In my opinion you should keep your Mame as a Mame cab and buy another cab or straight jamma.
I have 12 arcade games in my home collection. Three of them are having monitor issues. Area 51 is one of them. A neotec 25". Gauntlet Legends 27" neotec. And a hydrothunder which runs straight to VGA without any converter needed. 47" Vizio. Just to check if PC based arcades would run straight too VGA TV @correct range. So, what are people doing? Using a remote control to TV to turn it on after cutting on arcade games? @@atrain818 if your picture is otherwise fine, this should solve it. Wht you see in the video is an older model. I believe newer models have more bang for the buck. On the older CRT monitors, they would have a small knotty turn to fix the sync issue. Not sure about newer lcd monitors.
@@moomert1 here is my email: atrain818@yahoo.com. i can send you the pix of the lcd (bad pic) and the crt .
I have never seen the inside of a Super Pacman so I can't say for sure, however, this convertor should work.
How do I go from VGA to CGA though? I have an old konami cabinet that was converted to golden tee classic and the monitor works fine, I want to scrap the old motherboard and set up a PC to run a MAME cabinet with a real CRT.
why
run a jamma board mame is horrible
Do you have a guide to where to solder the red and ground wires? It's my first time upgrading the monitor
Red is 5v and Black is ground.
Thanks for the well informed video man. I had a few questions about this stuff but if you ask around the arcade forums, you get a verbal assault over how stupid you are. Great information for the not so electrical inclined.
Glad my video could help
Sorry, I did another video with the blanks in it. Skip to 1:50
In a two monitor cabinet like my 4 player cyberball game do you need two converters or is there a way to connect both to one?
cncmeredith I really can't say for sure.
Why would you need a convertor for VGA to VGA? Are you planning to use a computer monitor or a tri sync arcade monitor?
moomert1 I am trying to go to CGA so that the arcade games I have won't look so pixelated and blocky.
Penfold8
Also, if another type of convertor is available, you might try asking user YourMKArcadeSource. He might know the answer.
moomert1 Sorry to bother you again, but did you use the CGA VGA converter board WITH the Tri snyc or was the CGA/VGA converter just not used. BTW I appreciate you answering my questions.
Will this work for MK1 , 2 , 3 ? I hear those run at like 15kz refresh or something and does not work on a lot of monitors.... thanks
you have to change the vertical position to above 25 number mine was freezing on raiden 2 th-cam.com/video/7dNEmRvxVf4/w-d-xo.html
I hooked up the VGA adapter. I can here the game the screen came up green after pushing the down button and than letting go. The Chinese writing came up and the menu I scrolled through. But the screen is green. Please help. Thanks
What are the wires from your harness to the convertor? What order did you attach them?
So on this board it's as 5 volts to 12 volts do you have to use 5 can you use 12 is that going to hurt it
Out of curiosity, do you have arcade machines out there in a commercial setting? (forgive me if you mentioned this before). It would seem logical since you know how to service/repair them.
Hello. so basically I get this device, solder red green blue ground and sync to it and can I connect my monitor to my pc? is that what this can do? thanks
yes that is what it's supposed to do. you also need to power this unit via your aracde power supply. you power it from 5 volts. this adapter has a built in sync detect
On the 5 pin connector R,G,B,GND,.where does the end wires go.Im connecting to a Nintendo pcb booard
Corey Brown if you are connecting to a monitor, the last wire would be your sync wire. that wire would get connected to the very last pin.
Would be possible to you confirm if this works with Mortal Kombat/Midway boards? These ones are famous for having weird sync requirements, thank you.
Thanks,
I am using the RGBS wiring.
Thanks again.
Jeremy Marshall
I have never had a working pacman cab so I cant say for sure......however I would just connect the one sync wire you have to the single sync pin. Wait........shouldn't your wiring have both H and V sync? If so, connect them together and then connect to the single sync pin on the convertor.
moomert1
I may need to look at it again (very closely). I think I may have used one as a ground.
I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks for the reply!
moomert1
So, I am able to get it working, but the video gets wavy and then it appears that the adapter resets (Screen goes black and the Asian writing pops up).
Any ideas?
I have tried different power supplies to makes sure the amperage was correct too?
Thanks again.
Jeremy Marshall
Did you make sure the power supply was putting out the correct voltage? On the downside, some of these adapters have been known to have issues.
Do you have another cab to test the convertor with?
I have an old Area 51 arcade game meaning it is a light gun shooting game. Question is is will my guns work on an LCD or computer monitor question
Jason Khammo for Area 51 you need a crt monitor
moomert1
That's what I thought thanks
Another one. The YPbPr conectors are an input or output? Thanks.
Component input only. This outputs VGA only.
So the converter you are suggesting with a non jamma machine?
The convertor does not care if you have jamma or non jamma. Assuming your machine has basic red blue green ground and sync hook up, then this convertor should work.
Thankss forr yourr excellentt videoo describingg thiss devicee forr oldd arcadee gamess! Veryy usefull!
is there really any need for that?
@MrHandsomeBasterd Nope, my machines are just for my private use.
Thanks again.
small world indeed
will this work to convert a VGA signal to a arcade monitor 15khz? and is there a power light or anything to know that iots working or not working?
Noah Bagdonas if I remember correctly this will work
moomert1 OK weird cause I have a Pandora's box 4 hooked up to it through VGA and when I hook up to my trimode arcade monitor 1 15/24/31hz everything just shows up scrambled and green. no picture... Humm a red light comes on on the board is that normal?
I can't get it to display... The screen just turns bright green on my CRT monitor. No matter the source is going into the board from VGA
Noah Bagdonas are you using a pandoras box adapter? I'm assuming you are running game this in a Jamma cab?
@dextercf That's why I started makings vids in the first place.nback when I first got into arcades, there were no simple easy to understand vids.
would that work for light gun games?
Thank you!
Again.
So has anyone replaced this with an OSSC at this point?
Will this convert vector to vga?
Gregory Monivis Jr I don't believe that's possible.
Nice sir
Will this work for a 2005 golden tee?
Yes. It should. But be prepared for a smaller screen size.
even with a Amtrak converter?
Is there any noticeable delay from inputs?
use mine on raiden 2 cant tell of any delay
Hi, i have a sega naomi universal cabinet, monitor 31k only, can i use this to play jamma? Also does it lag? let me cheers
i might need this lol
im trying to convert cga or rgb to vga without adding lag
another cheapo way to get video signal off the supergun is the hyperkin genesis2hdmi adapter
Or are you referring to buying an LCD from somewhere particular for arcade games? just seems a little ghetto having to use the remote and hope that it isn't covered to cut the TV on. Just wondering what people are doing. Thanks
Area 51 is a light gun game... LCD monitor will not work with it at all.
And what monitor did you use? Are those not "outputs" not "inputs"... Only input should be the CGA.
He doesnt mention the screen tearing
