Machete Defence in Silat. The Art of flowing.
Every transition in the flow has the potential to stop a confrontation, but in a seminar environment we prolong the fight to learn footwork, positioning, to find opportunities and openings; the same concept as "rolling" in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. Its not a fight, but a learning curve.
Congratulations to Sebastien Ribac for organising a super successful 2 days Bruneian Martial Art - Silat Suffian Bela Diri Seminar in Paris, France. 25th and 26th November 2017.
Thank you to Melanie Mélanie Bourgeois for your patience with us.
Thank you to Marcel Horstman, Sebastian Sebastien Ribac, Alex Masse, and Radley Ramirez for your patience in assisting me in my Instructions and demonstration.
Thank you to Jamel Mondolyo for helping Sebastian Ribac with the registration.
Thank you to Andrew Lewis for being an awesome travel companion.
Thank you to everyone that came to support the event; those coming from different parts of Paris, Région Parisienne, Yonne, Rhône, Charente-Maritime, Loir et Cher, Vendée, Somme, Loire-Atlantique, Indre, Lozère, Provence and those traveling from the UK, Germany (Radley Ramirez), the USA (Mylene Berchigny Carreres , The Netherlands, Belgium, Guadeloupe, etc.
Without your support this event will not happen. Thank you.

Now I get the picture of how ancient Malayan warrior fight in the tight formation or group without friendly strikes. I can see the footwork and the need of situational awareness definitely shows how develop their fighting skills and war tactics were.

I've realized that the unarmed defense training is perhaps the best way to train the mind. Through the footwork, angles, and parrying you're conditioning yourself for real combative situations.

My favorite clip of machete application in silat. I don't think any montage or any other video demonstrates really just how well the parang is.
Mind you, the parang back in the olden days was a work tool. A parang is like a hammer, a screwdriver in the workshop. Or like a saw or an axe in the wilderness.
So a lot of the application of parang in the battlefield is used by the normal citizen. They are generally stronger than merchants as they use a LOT of energy and do loads of heavy lifting and heavy work, which shows in the devastating techniques of parang that uses heavy slashes and big motions.
Regardless, they're not "barbarically" just swinging their parang, they have the check hand and the footwork. also using the parang in unconventional methods in some situation such as throwing the parang or the sheath towards an opponent, throwing it to the ground, putting it into a tree nearby and redirecting the enemy's body part towards the blade.

    • @Penjejak_Rimba
      @Penjejak_Rimba 3 ปีที่แล้ว

All in all, the parang is what I'd consider the ultimate wilderness multitool and an all-rounder self defense tool.
It's a good point to start learning on body mechanics too.

You are contradicting yourself, muscle memory needs to be trained, then you say you will forget what you trained. But then you say use intuition and muscle memory. if people can fight with intuition, then martial arts styled and systems won't exist. Can you fight in a taekwondo or BJJ tournament with intuition alone and not training? but then you say muscle memory, which requires training. You dont understand how martial arts training works yourself, how can you understand others...

Again you are running loose with your baseless assumption, i have experinced HEMA(HEMA Alliance in the US) and i have trained in both silat/FMA and Japanese weapon systems, yours basing your opnion off a 2 to 3 min long clip without actually understanding whats going on , every art has full contact forums , it aint something special or unqiue to one system , i.e with that said i strongly suggest you to venture off into other systems with an open mind and abit more research, because your current opnions are truly bais ...and if your talking about charging with full force with a live edged weapon, i can say with absloute confidence sir that no system does that like how ( Filipino martial arts do and malay silats) you can check videos of your self in regards to awarness training when using Karambit or straight edge knives or bolo's ( Machetes) ...some of these training takes place under conditions that no western facility would dare undertake, that why militry forces go to philipines and such for edged weapon training ( again you can confirm that by a simple youutbe search)...no one can deny HEMA usefullness, however, dont get your mind twisted by comparing a midevil sword play to an actual modern age militry approved tactical combat systems like silats, kali or pekiti tirsia kali....and i guess i'll leave it at that .
