    Iv trained in few arts & ninjutsu for 25years & maul silat is the main art I watch as he is basically same as me in skills & he has mastered Taijutsu skills. There are few differences in silat and ninjutsu from the weapons & we use stealth etc but actual fighting skills are both the same, combat arts. Great skills maul.

      yes, assault rifle, all types of gun, bow and arrow, throwing knife, all thing consider long ranged weapon are better than hand to hand combat, in fact, are better than every martial arts. But what make martial arts better is that they train ourselves to be useful when we don't have any type of range weapons. If you only have a knife, in situation where group of people with guns are after you. You don't run straight back to your house and hope everything is better. You run where bullet can't reach you. You run to the old building/hospital/police station/forest or somewhere where you can have advantages.
      I mean look at Batman (bad example of real life situation, I know). He doesn't use guns and have martial arts, does he confront people with guns? Obviously not. He sneak past way through or stealthily take out bad guy one by one.
      My conclusion is, there are better way to handle people with long ranged weapon especially people with no training.
      BUT, still guns are consider dangerous and should not be use unwisely. There are no knowing when people with guns pull the trigger. We can die instantly where we never knew there are people pointing a gun at you. I hope you understand my point.

    Out of curiosity, as a fantasy author, is there any way to adapt these attacks to an opponent that is larger than you by a significant measure?

    • @sashimisusumi7139
      @sashimisusumi7139 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the sweeping the leg, are the one that make the opponent fall. Just pull the opponent leg, and let the gravity do the work

    • @LepidoliteMica
      @LepidoliteMica 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Orochi Chris That's a good point, but is sweeping the leg really enough for a full combat arsenal? Also, how does that fare when the opponent has legs as big as you are?

    • @sashimisusumi7139
      @sashimisusumi7139 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, as you see in the video, he does not sweep the opponent leg first, he weakened them by punching and breaking the opponent. If you see the opponent in this video, when their weapon is like flying away, Maul actually breaking their bones or at least do a little pain on the hand to make the weapon off their hand. Then he sweeping the opponent's leg. This is only the arsenal part.
      For the big guy, it is either that guy really big or you are so small, you can always use other attack such as hit the groin, punching on the neck or use any object nearby as weapon (Depending on the environment). Of course it won't be that easy. After all, it all depends on your own skill, health, stamina, strength etc.

    • @sashimisusumi7139
      @sashimisusumi7139 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry, there is no flying weapon in this video, but there is some in Maul's other videos. But you can see he breaking the opponent elbow to weakened the opponent's hand holding a knife at 4:55

    • @Wavemaninawe
      @Wavemaninawe 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lepidolite Mica
      That depends on if you plan on writing somewhat plausible fight scenes or if youre aiming more for high fantasy.
      Because there if youre going for the realistic approach, then i would say booby traps or liberal use of larger projectile weapons. Team tactics against one larger opponent. There is really no sense in going hand-to-hand against a cave troll or an elephant.
      If youre aiming at writing superpowers, then the sky is the limit.
      In Samurai 7 (the anime adaption of Seven Samurai), the ronin mercenaries are slicing mecha to pieces and blocking lasers with their swords and those arent even supposed to count as a superpowers... Merely good martial arts skill.
      Silat is wicked stuff, but its designed for fighting other humans.

    For starters... I LOVE SILAT AND ITS FIGHTING PRINCIPLES!!
    now that out of the way.. let me send a friendly challenge to all Silat practitioners: Go to your local Muay Thai gym, Kick-boxing club and ask to spar with or without gloves, and try to pull of these sweeps and defensive tactics against even the youngest of fighters there and i promise you that you will be humbled that day..
    However, these things do work, when the proper timing and body mechanics are understood to utilize the specific techniques.

SIMPLY i like to start discussions, or more easily said debates... why? they challenge common belief and force "teacher" to form an opinion, an accumulation of these opinions allows us as martial artists to consult with each other and grow as artists by acknowledging various sources and taking from what we feel useful and discarding what we feel is rubbish.

Blocking or parrying those knife attacks in this video? You are going to get CUT badly if not killed. Remember, this is all choreographed and the defender KNOWS what's coming and when.

      @@bayurocky1326 What does that have to do with the fact these choreographed demos are BS? You don't know anything about me. You have no idea of my training.
      I know Judo. (6th Dan.) Fifty years experience. Also hold a black in JJJ (Jap. Jiu Jitsu.) Trained as a boxer and Muay Thai. My point is, I don't care what marital art you know, if you get cut by a knife, it can all go out the window.

Bayurocky is right, you don't know anything about Silat! Silat guys play with knives everyday, they sleep with their knives and they live with their knives! They even eat with their knives. They live in the jungle with all the wild animals. If they can survive the jungle what makes you think Silat Masters can't handle some lil cunts who can't even hold a knife properly?! By the way you're bragging and only pathetic sore loser like you loves to brag!

      @@mattjennings5864 it's like this my friend ..like cooking and boxing, to cook something u need to know the cooking ingredients and instructions...and u need to practice them until ur mind and body remembers.. the flow...the same can be said for boxing...while silat is quite complex...such complexity can be trained on our body through our body until ur mind know what option u can take in the next flow while your body remember what to do in the flow....so practice the flow until ur body can instantaneously execute the stances..
