- This video shows the process of forging pre-medieval tongs. This style of tongs runs from the iron age to the medieval period and as such is suitable for Viking, Roman, Anglo-Saxon setups.
If you would like to forge your own tongs to this spec, please consider purchasing my step-by-step drawings, featuring measurements in both metric and Imperial : rowan-taylor-g...

Just to reiterate what so many are saying, I’ve been watching your videos for years, so glad you’re back.
One of my blacksmithing teachers in Sveg, Sweden, described you as the master of welding.
Your work is endlessly inspiring, you’re one of the best Rowan!

Still using the Viking Hammer I bought from you a few years back. Great work!
Lovely pair of tongs. I may have to give it a go
They look lovely !!
Thanks for sharing Rowan. They look like quite a heavy set of tongs? I've always been intrigued by the design as they don't look like they'd grip particularly well. Though using them in pairs makes far more sense.
I look forward to the next video.
All the best
Andy
9:22 particularly fond of this very relatable moment (not just me then). 😂
Also, wickedly accurate and very sardonic Tim Key impression 😅
Awesome video, beautifully shot too. Thanks!
Definitely not just you. You can usually see the exact moment I go to my happy place and lose spatial awareness 😂
Not just you! You can usually tell the exact moment when I go to my happy place and lose all spatial awareness 😂
Thank you for watching!,,,,,, Thank you for making!
all the best from Tang
Thanks Tim! Good to see you on here, I didn't see much of you at Caherconnel!
Thank you for the video,
Very nice...well made
great work and excellent video.
Question for you from a beginner: To my eye the material around the hinge is a little light. Is this a problem? Could you have made a smaller hole and then drifted it larger to save more material?
What kind of coal do you use?
WB !
"sixteen face-a-gon" = hexidecigon
Of course, the Romans never really conquered Britain entirely, did they? 😎
Nice job neat and functional, good camera work and dialogue.
