Thanks so much. Glen
Those are really badass tongs, Brother! I love the concept! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Thanks so much Steve for your generosity for the Nth time. I like using this ong a lot - a good style for sure. Have a great new year my friend. 😬🎆
Those are super cool. Never thought about them being made that way.
Glad you like this. Thanks for watching.
Love em Glen Happy New Year
Hope 2024 is a great year for you and all. Thanks.
Do like that set of tongs I need to order a set of them next pay day. Best of all to you and yours and I hope that 2024 will be the best year ever........Be well and be safe.⚒💎
You may have earned a pair with your support. Otherwise, let me know and I'll do my best. Thanks for all and I wish you a great 2024 and beyond.
I've never seen an anvil like yours, very clever. Fun to see someone who has his own style.
looks more like a swage block with a hardy hole, looks very useful
Very impressive. Thanks for an excellent video
It's my pleasure. Thanks Larry.
I don't think using tour old tongs make you a stupid salesman. The shoeshine man always has the dullest shoes. Thanks again for taking us along.
I appreciate your comment. Makes me less conscious (in a bad way) about using my misfit tongs! Thanks.
انك رجل عبقري بارك الله بيك 🎉❤🎉
Amazing!
Thanks John.
You make it look so easy, but its not! Great video loved it
I've done more than a few tongs. Maybe the only thing I can do decently! Thanks for your kind comment.
Elegant
Thanks for sure.
Nice work as always 😃😃
Thanks for sure.
Meu sonho é ter uma dessas tenaz sua amigo
When did Christopher Walken have time to become such an expert at forging?!?
Beautiful work. I really like the bronze ish finish.
Dang brother, you're at least the eighth person to say I sound like Christopher Walken. Anyway, we're both native New Yorkers. Thanks for watching.
So fine mate. I love that copper brush look.
Thanks James.
⭕️ looks good with the brass over your mark
I was thinking to get away from the brass accent or maybe just you this to highlight my logo mark. Thanks.
Cool design!
Thanks.
Another win, Glen! If I can rehablitate my hand to function better and get back to forging, I'll look for something to buy from you, whether some tongs or sections from that rack & pinion gear if you have any available. I appreciate the way you respond to comments regularly.
Manipulating a pair of tongs is probably better rehab than some of the exercises they have you doing.
@@chrisallen2005 unfortunately, I have some neuropathy in the fingers of my hammer hand, so I'm not sure if I can trust it to be able to hang on to and control a hammer yet. I'm slowly testing it out doing lighter tasks first.
I do my best Dennis to respond. It's the least I can do for all the support folks like yourself show me. I wish you well. Thanks.
You might just be right about that! Thanks for sharing.
I'm a firm believer that even injuries like yours can heal with the proper approach / exercises and if taken in small steps over time. Good luck to you my friend.
Very Nice Glen! The amount of fine tuning......WOW! Really like the end effort and definitely can see it will function exactly as you designed!!
This sort of tong is tough to adjust. I think I can do better but so far I'm really enjoying using this tong. Thanks Robert.
Take a drink every time he says tongs!
Everyone would be drunk as skunks if that were the case! Thanks for watching.
Again a precise work, clear idea and beautiful result!
Thanks for watching and for your kind comment.
Easily got my thumbs up! Was no stupid music. Well-presented, got to hear the actual sounds of the processes, and interesting to watch the craftsmanship
I really appreciate your kind comment. Thanks for watching.
Yes, thanks for no in your face shredding guitars. 👍
I always keep the ugly ducklings to myself, I can relate. Can you tell me what stock size you are using? Is it 14mm? I have recently made tong from 12mm round, but I am not impressed on the size of the bit portion of the tong, also the boss area is a bit too small and thin, but that's a problem I'll have to figure out myself.
Yes, 14mm. 12mm doesn't seem like a huge difference but it is. But you can use this smaller diameter stock if you do some upsetting on the pivot / jaw end. Thanks and I too have many ugly ducklings!
Glen, will the dimpled tong last as long as a tong with a solid rivet? I might not be understanding how strong the dimple is and how it really works.
I haven't made many dimpled tongs so I can't say for sure. So far so good and I'll post an update. Thanks.
I enjoy these unique tongs. Came across a video of someone crediting your work and making one of the RA style! Yours was much better haha
I guess imitation of the greatest form of flattery. Thanks for all Matthew.
After dimpling the outside 1/2, could you slip the joint and dimple the inside 1/2, then slip the joint back in place and redimple the outside 1/2. That might give the dimple more to bite into?
I'm not sure if I can move it after dimpling but if I go lightly that might be possible. Something maybe worth trying. Thanks.
First video Ive seen of yours, and a job well done!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Stick around for more...
As always, brilliant work! I am somewhat of a perfectionist, so seeing you make a “mistake” and keep on pushing through has really helped me “accept” my imperfections and continue the piece I’m working on. If you don’t point out the mistakes, no one else will even notice!!!
Godspeed!
Of course we all want stuff to come out exactly as imagined but that's rarely the case. I guess shoot for the stars and if you land near the moon that ain't too bad. Thanks for your well wishes my friend - same to you.
I have some old German pliers that were my grandfather's that seem to use the same type of pivot, as well as surgical hemostats. I've also seen people whittle movable pliers with a similar pivot, although I never tried making those (I have whittled chains and "ball in a cage" pieces in the past).
Whittling moveable pliers intrigues me. That would be very interesting to see done. Thanks Dennis.
Super cool and mindblowing tong right there mate! Awesome work!!
Nice work, a stopper in between the handles will save you from pinching your hand as I've done many times.. lol
That's a good point and something I have thought about. I'll do this sort of tong again and maybe make that adjustment. Thanks.
Весьма. Достаточно необычно и...породисто.
I started researching the same type of pivot after having an antique set of forged pliers from my dad's tool collection. It is a piece of art and now that I'm about to watch your video, I hope you matched the craftsmanship!!😅
Not sure how my craftsmanship stacks up. I know I can and will improve on this one but I'm very satisfied when using this tong. Thanks for watching and sharing.

Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
Great video Sir. Thank you for sharing this project with us all.
It has been a while since your last roaming video, Since you are needing a new wire brush, maybe you could bring us along for the ride.
Hopefully you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Cheers.
Hey John, Yeah, I've been slow to keep up with the roaming videos. Let me see what else I need in addition to that wire brush and if I can take my camera along. Thanks and I wish you the best in 2024 and beyond.
Innovative... good job.
Hey Ron, I think I can do this one better though as it stands, I've really been enjoying using this tong. Thanks for your support and I think I still need to email you.
My wife asked if you were french, i replied im pretty sure he's tongan. . . . . . . .baaahaaaaahahahahahahaha beautiful tool brother!
Haha! Yes, I'm "tong"an for sure. And straight out of the "tong" dynasty.
Отличная работа, подписался на канал 👍
Thanks for your kind comment.
@@gstongs ваши кузнечные инструменты самые лучшие, спасибо что делитесь своим мастерством.
Very nicely done.
Thanks for sure.
Great work 👏
I've been thinking about this video for a day now, and am still confused. Please let me/us know how this is superior to a riveted tong, as I can't figure it out. I'm sure there's a reason, but I'm too old to figure it out. Thanks for sharing your process!
I don’t know if it’s superior, but I love the simplicity of forming the pivot point from the moving parts rather than using a 3rd piece. Seems easier than riveting - no alignment issues, and you don’t have to mess about with grinding afterwards either.
Hey Bryson, I agree with Simon in that this method may not be superior but it eliminates one small part and the simplicity may actually make this style better. Anyway, I can do better than this pair although I'm very pleased when using this tong. Of course I'll have another go and will go over the details as I see them. Thanks.
I think if done right and perhaps better than my attempt here, this style can be superior for sure. Anyway, I agree with what you say. Thanks.
Wow I'm going to have to get better at black tools before I try this but lord I got to try thank you
This style tong is certainly worth a try. Thanks for watching.
Well done Brother! What material was the tong's stock?
It's 14mm diameter, 1018 mild steel. Thanks for watching and for your kind comment my friend.
So clean. I have so much to learn. Watching your light hammer blows for adjustments makes me realize I'm way too aggressive with my adjusting hammer blows. Doest seem like much, but it really is the difference between a beautifully made set of tongs and one that looks like it was found in the middle of a busy freeway. Thanks for showing us your method of tong making. I learned a lot.
Lol ya me too😅
Yes, it's not always necessary to swing for the fences. But trust me, I have my share of tongs that look they were found on a busy freeway! Glad you could take away anything from watching. Thanks.
Thanks for watching.
Достойно 👍🔥
Awesome product, keep these videos coming !!!!!!
I'll keep trying my best. Thanks Jeremy.
A beautiful set of tongs indeed.
Thanks for sure.

Thank you for letting us watch you make a useful tool from bar stock. Dad used to say at different times; “There ain’t many left that can still do that.”

I'm not into smithing more into machining but gotta tell ya thats fine lookin tool ya made there
What quality of iron rod do you use?
For most tongs (and this pair), I use 1018 mild steel. Thanks for watching.
That's absolutely a work of art. Well done
Saya suka yang ini. Sangat menginspirasi, sangat berbeda.
Why does it look gold on the ends?
Probably due to brushing the tongs while hot with a brass brush at 14:20. Some of the brass transfers to the steel if it's hot enough, a commonly used technique for brass coating steel.
Yes, Jonathan is exactly right - I use a brass brush while the piece is warm to impart some brass onto the steel. Thanks for watching.
Perfectly said. Thanks.
Très beau
Thanks Jean.
Top!!!!!
in a way doesnt the dipples act exactly as a rivet?
Yup. Simpler tho.
Yes, the dimple functions much the same. I'll elaborate more on this in an upcoming video. Thanks.
Good point. Thanks for watching.
