In the post game, Al McGuire asked Eddy Sutton if it was his greatest win. Eddy told him that it was when he beat Al McGuires team! Great times.
Most everybody liked Al, and respected him. Even John Wooden. Beating Al McGuire was most definitely the highlight of Dick Vitale's career.
Al McGuire, "Its Good", while the ball is only halfway to the hoop. LOL. Wonder who he wanted to win?
I can tell you for a fact, Al McGuire did not care. He wanted a good game, and he wanted the pay check.
Al wasn't rooting for anyone, he just would make bold audacious predictions. Often right, but sometimes wrong - like, "Ralph Sampson will dominate the NBA."
Alvin Robertson, of Barberton High School (the Akron, Ohio area). Four men have recorded NBA quadruple doubles. Two of them are from Akron. Not one of them is named LeBron James. One is Alvin Robertson. Another is Nate Thurmond.
What's the fourth category for a quadruple double? Steals?

@@ARIZJOE Got it. And good research by you. I would add, however, that blocks were not kept as a statistic during most of Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell's careers.
@@brianarbenz1329 It might be that Wilton had a quadruple double in 1968, the year he lead the league in total assists, and second in apg. Russell was not as much a passer.

I was there too! Great Memories got a last minute ticket from Mark Upshaw remember having to miss Church but I'm sure God enjoyed the game also. We stood up nearly the whole game and an old couple behind us told us to sit down. I told them we would switch seats but we weren't about to sit down. The only time I saw Michael Jordan play in person and he wasn't the best player that day. I remember Bedford going 7 for 7 and how well we played. That crowd was as loud or louder than any at Barnhill or Bud Walton. Al Maguire saying "it's Good!" On Mike Hales last second shot later said he meant Hale got the shot off in time and if it went it would be good. After seeing that again he sounded like he wanted it to go in to me. Oh well, East Coast bias has been around forever and is still here today. Go Hogs!!!
I was there ! I saw KISS in that same Pine Bluff convention Center and I tell you that game was louder. You could actually feel the sound going through your body ...if that makes sense. BTW Al Mc Guire....it WAS NOT GOOD.

And Razorbacks did it again lol 2022 beating Auburn
And again in the tournament beating Gonzaga. They became the first team in NCAA history to beat a #1 ranked team in the regular season and a #1 ranked team in tournament during the same season.
Dick "Oh My" Enberg and Al "It's Good!" McGuire, God rest his soul. Wonder who the guy was who waved the pom pom in the face of Coach Smith when he was walking off the court. My senior year at Arkansas. What a great program we had then, thanks to Coach Sutton.
Matt Dougherty just fired from head coaching position at SMU. I bet he had a great time playing along side Jordan.

I remember it like it was yesterday! The Razorbacks were delayed in getting back from a road game because of snow, yet had to get down to Pine Bluff to play #1 North Carolina and pulled off the upset!
TheAtomicHog I think the boys played the previous day at SMU?? In any case...the storms caused their flight to be very rough and supposedly the players had issues with air sickness. The airplane was a Sunbelt Airlines Shorts airliner.
Back when the DAMN REGULAR SEASON MEANT SOMETHING! Later that team stopped PHI SLAMA JAMA's 3 year conference undefeated rampage. Those games were as important as tournament games were, Today , all that matters is the BIG DANCE! Not to me.

I was at this game as a kid. Funny story I was supposed to be working for the Boy Scouts selling popcorn.. I didn't sell too much popcorn that night but I saw a GREAT game!!🐗⚡👋👍

Listen to how excited these commentators were back then? Now they just sit in their little commentating room and ramble on about other things. And they sound so boring. It makes the game not as exciting.
Carolina PG, Kenny Smith missed this game due to a broken wrist. Although Steve Hale played well in Smith's absence, the Tar Heels were not able to overcome the inspired effort of Arkansas. As Jerry Seinfeld often remarked, "Ahhhhhh, that's a shame."

This UNC team lost 3 games by a combined 7 points. The Kenny Smith injury hurt, but still, they should have been loaded enough to make the final 4. Obviously, point guard is an important position.

I recall Charles Ballantine beating NC with a shot from the deep corner at the buzzer. I think it was at Barnhill Arena. Early to mid 80s. Anyone else? Is there video of that game? I can't find it anywhere.

Watched again and I recall this game but it's not the one I thinking of. The game I'm talking about Ballentine hit a jumper at the buzzer for the win. I watched it on tv. I wasn't there but it was at Barnhill and they were playing the #1 team in the country at the time. I thought it was UNC but maybe not. I was watching with my girlfriend, sister and brother in law and they all recall it happening as well but no details beyond what I've stated. Maybe I'm getting old and losing it. Lol. Thanks though.

I sometimes wonder why they played this game in Pine Bluff instead of Barnhill, given that Arkansas usually didn't play a lot of games outside their arena.
I think Dean Smith refused to play in Barnhill. Arkansas actually played a couple of non-conference games in Little Rock and Pine Bluff each every season until the 93-94 season. Now they just play one game a season in the Rock.
Someone told me why yesterday. Dean Smith refused to play in Barnhill because he said it got too loud. I guess he figured the Hog fans wouldn’t make the same noise in another place. Lol.
A far cry from Missouri. Even when they famously lost 120-68, at least they took on the challenge of playing a true home game.

He was hurt. He'd been hurt on a really vicious foul by LSU's John Tudor in a game a short time before at Carmichael. When he came back very late in the year, he was still hurt, and Carolina chemistry was never the same. As depressing a season as there ever was

How many false and/or misleading statements did Al McGuire make during this nearly 7 minute video? I can't help but wonder how many he made during the entire broadcast. Only other announcer I can think of that was worse is Bill Walton.
