That metal thing Chewie got at the end was a medal (presumably Leia's), the same medal that Luke and Han git at the end of Episode 4, but Chewie didn't get for some reason. For years fans were asking why Chewie never got a medal, so at the end of this one they gave him one.

    • @Keanine
      @Keanine ปีที่แล้ว +6

It was Han's medal from episode 4. When Han died, Leia kept it as a keepsake, and when she died it was given to Chewy to remember him by. And yeah, it's a little nod to the fans that he's finally got a medal, but that's not the true meaning behind it

I rarely get these things but in this film I got strongly the vibes they were going for different ending and backed down and that ruined it for me. Its Star Wars so naturally I own this... Trivia, Carrie Fisher passed away in Dec 2016 after she wrapped filming EP8 The Last Jedi. This film started filming the later half of 2018. The footage of Carrie was taken from outakes and deleted scenes shot during Episode 7. They gave her a new outfit via CGI exclusive to this film. All with approval from her daughter who was in all 3 of these films 7,8,9. That's her daughter assisting her to her bed in this movie. (which an extra was used for stand-in of Leia in that scene from the back)

Just food for thought: halfway through the Emperor's fall down that shaft, he suddenly bursts into blue flame and it shoots out of the shaft and flies off. You'll see him shoot that "essence magic" elsewhere in a scene from something you haven't seen yet (I don't think). Basically, that clone body clinging to life on Exagol was already prepared as a vessel in the event that his former body was destroyed. And his "essence" went there. Remember in Episode III, he spoke of his former master also taking steps to cheat death--knowledge he then passed down to Palpatine.
Some fans think that perhaps Palpatine's master initially created Anakin from the midichlorians for the purpose of being *his* vessel after death (hence why Anakin was so OP), but when Palpatine killed him the plan of what to use Anakin for was altered.

My biggest complaint about this movie is that it did everything it could to retcon things that people cried about in TLJ instead of completing the story properly. That's what made this trilogy feel disconnected in my opinion.
"Rey is a Mary Sue" okay let's make her a Palpatine, that'll explain her powers.
"We hate Rose, let's bully the actor until she leaves social media entirely" -great so let's write Rose out of the next movie.
"Can't believe Luke just threw his lightsaber like that" -"A lightsaber deserves more respect that that"
And so on. I feel like TLJ set up enough interesting things that could have been followed through on. I do like that they followed through with the force Dyad stuff nicely though. Loved all of that. Anyway, I can't wait to see the new movie with Rey they just announced.

I have a love-hate relationship with this movie. After the absolute mess that was Ep8, where Rian Johnson for some reason had total freedom storywise they had to "repair" some stuff that Johnson just scrapped, for example Rens mask, the Knights of Ren or just some small characters like Luke Skywalker. The biggest mistake for me was to bring Palpatine back because it just lessens Anakin Skywalkers sacrifice to safe his son and end the Emperor big time. The whole trilogy was just a complete mess storywise. But like you said, the movie has good moments, especially between the main characters which I absolutely liked. I just hope Disney/Lucasfilm learned from this. You cannot do a movie trilogy without any greater plans for the story. You made me so happy when you said how much you like Reys theme. 🥰

    @madpolitico ปีที่แล้ว +3

Quote is easy. Rogue One, Jyn Erso addressing the Rebellion when they’re debating going to Scariff.
The medal was Han’s from A New Hope, kind of a way to make up for Chewie not getting one.
I think the sequels will have a lot fledged out like the prequels did (which had their own moments of “wait, what’s the story here?”). We’re seeing some of that with The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch, setting up how Palpatine sorted out the cloning.
Not the end of the story, they just announced an upcoming movie set in the future after TROS with Rey teaching new Jedi.
On that note… as much as it sounds like Finn is trying to confess his love, it’s theorized he was trying to tell her he also has the Force. Which they kind of address in the LEGO holiday special, though that’s not canon.
And the ghost thing… it’s just a weird thing in the lore. Anakin never had anyone teach him how to do it, but he instantly could do it when he died. I think Lucas was trying to explain why some Jedi do it and not others but forgot that Anakin did it without being taught. 😂 (Random fun thought: everyone’s body disappears but clothes stay. Except Yoda, his clothes disappear. Which means Yoda wasn’t actually wearing anything, he just projected that he was wearing clothes. And now you can never see that scene the same again.)
Oh! Also random side note: the gunner in the Falcon, Wedge Antilles, was in both Death Star battles and Hoth. In the old EU, he was the only X-Wing pilot with two Death Star kills painted on his fighter.

@@jennym2276 you have to consider how you look at balance. What we knew of the prophecy came from the Jedi who believed it could’ve been misread as Yoda himself said. Anakin was supposed to bring ultimate balance. Rey carrying on his legacy and stopping the return of the Sith is continuing to keep that balance and one day when the evil will rise again, a new champion will rise to bring back that balance again. At least that’s how I choose to see it. The words said “through him will ultimate balance be restored”, through.. not by. Anakin starting a cycle of chosen champions who will rise to stop the dark side from growing seems like ultimate balance to me. Seems way more fitting than a typical happily ever after with no more evil after Anakin kills Palpatine.

The Palpatine thing illustrates my main criticism of the Sequel Trilogy pretty well. Thematically it makes sense, as in the OT we got a mere name-drop in IV, a hologram in V, and then in VI we got the full character in the flesh, while in the PT, we got to see him go from just another senator to Supreme Chancellor in I, to manipulating the senate into granting him emergency powers in II, to becoming The Emperor™ in III while the characters found out that the Sith persisted in I, that there was one manipulating galactic politics in II, to the big reveal in III. But, they flubbed the execution by not giving any clues, whatsoever, to his existence in VII and VIII, just dropping him out of the sky in the opening crawl in IX. Because, contrary to all the noise they made about having a Story Group to ensure cohesion in the storyline between the different projects being worked on by different directors, their approach with the ST was to violently change trajectory with each movie in response to audience feedback instead of following any kind of plan. So what we got was three movies with a lot of good ideas that were jumbled together in a way that was less than the sum of its parts.

I turned to my friend in the theater when Rey blew up the ship in the sky with the lightning, and just mouthed "Palpatine?!!??!!?!!!?", realizing that Rey was a Palps. That was the big reveal to me, instead of at the end when Kylo tells her. That was just confirmation by that point.
I love the connection (the dyad) between Rey and Kylo Ben. Call me a Reylo (whatever). It made the trilogy though. Adam Driver is the goat.
I love/hate this movie as well. It's heavily flawed, but I love to focus on the positives of it. A lot of shoulda, coulda, woulda in the movie but it is what it is.

As Jar Jar once said, "Mesa gotta baaaad feeling about this... Bombad!" Palpatine in this flick is like Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness before him, simply begging the filmmakers to kill him off before the series gets any worse...
P.S. Verowak, your reactions are terrific, so thank you for creating this channel! I also want to say that not *all* of the hate for the sequel trilogy is coming from "toxicity" -- though some of it surely is. Like you, I never got the hate for Rose. Sure, the character could be better written, but she has some good moments and potential (the more I think about it, the more I think it's scandalous the way Disney practically wrote Rose out of Episode IX, caving to the most toxic fans). What I'm trying to say is that some of the so-called "hate" is coming from that place we call LOVE. Consecutive generations came to *DEARLY LOVE* this fantastic galaxy, far, far away, and the characters and creatures and wonders that populated it. So when the corporation that was responsible for bringing the most beloved series in cinema history to its rightful conclusion fumbled the franchise so badly, some of us took it to heart. This is our childhood Disney's been messing with (though, to be fair, not entirely -- I enjoyed some of the first season of The Mandalorian, I love Rogue One almost as much as Episodes IV and V, I enjoyed Solo, and I'm thrilled with Season 1 of "Andor"). But the sequel trilogy mostly broke the hearts of OG Star Wars fans like me. Color me silly, but I believe that corporate hacks snuffing out the magic and tainting cherished childhood memories -- and bona fide religious experiences like seeing STAR WARS in the theaters in 1977 at the age of ten after waiting with my family for blocks to get into the Cine Capri Theater with its huge screen and elegantly gathered curtains signaling that the show was about to begin -- well, IMHO that's something to get passionate about... angry, even... Kylo Ren angry (granted, it's funnier when *he* flips out than when we hypersensitive fanboys vent and kvetch, but we iron our pants with our space-age irons one leg at a time, just like he does).

For me, it's my least favorite Star Wars Movie.
My ranking: Episode V > Episode VI > Rogue One > Episode III > Episode IV > Solo > Episode II > Episode I > Episode VII > Episode VIII > Episode IX
I grew up with IV-VI, and the books after Episode VI. For me, the sequels are still "The Truce At Bakura", "The Courtship Of Princess Leia" and of course the Thrawn Trilogy "Heir To The Empire", "Dark Force Rising" and "The Last Command". Aaaaand everything that followed after that.
If someone never has read these books, then they will never understand, why most of us "old fans" don't like what Disney had done, when they declared all of it as "Legends", and made these sequels...
At least they did some things right with most of the TV-Series (only "Resistance" is bad as the sequels), and some of the new Canon Books are good too. But still nothing compared to all that came out before Disney took over.
I see the sequels only as an alternate timeline, wich is possible because of the World between Worlds, that we have seen in "Rebels", and maybe in the upcoming "Ahsoka". So Han and Leias kids are still Jacen, Jaina and Anakin, and Luke and Maras kid is named Ben. 😜

Finn was trying to tell Rey as he was sinking that he is Force-sensitive too. Admiral Pryde was a former Imperial who had been secretly funneling resources from both the Empire and the First Order to Exegol for decades, somehow without a Sith Wayfinder, and was the only First Order member to know that Palpatine was alive the whole time. The dagger was able to map the location of the Wayfinder aboard the Death Star from that specific spot on that specific hill that Rey randomly happened to be standing on, because the dagger was crafted by Sith who had visions of that moment but didn’t understand, yet still managed to make the dagger to those specifications. Palpatine had no son, he had a clone who separated from his progenitor and later had Rey.
All of this rather relevant information was not in the movie, and was divulged after it came out, mostly as Twitter posts, to cover up things in the movie that didn’t make sense.
Also, all of the Exegol star destroyers are identical to the star destroyers you see in the original trilogy, because they’re just the same CG models for star destroyers from Rogue One, but upscaled in size by 50% and given big cannons on their underbellies. This upscaling was basically done with a slider in editing software, with no design changes, so everything down to the last lightbulb and window on the destroyer is 50% larger too. (A little goofy.) In fact, every single ship in the massive hero fleet at the end was just a copy-paste of whatever random CG models Disney had on hand. They didn’t design new ships for this final battle, because that would cost money. A little disappointing after all the work that went into making new ships for battles in all the rest of the films.
This movie has great and memorable scenes in it, but even treating it by itself without comparing it to other Star Wars movies, it’s just so many little things in it that add up to make it less than it not only should have been, but very well could have been. I’m glad you liked it. I personally enjoyed it more than The Last Jedi.

The biggest problem the Sequel Trilogy had was lack of planning ahead. JJ Abrams had a basic idea of who these new characters were and where he wanted to go with them. Then the studio hired Rian Johnson and let him write the story for the middle of the trilogy however he wanted, and as a result he killed Snoke (who JJ intended to be the villain of the entire trilogy) and proclaimed Rey was the daughter of nobodies and was therefore herself a nobody. When JJ returned as writer/director of the third film, he had to reverse the major changes Johnson had made and it just created a bigger mess that would have meant a 6 hour film to get all the information out that was really needed.
Fortunately, it seems the Star Wars Disney+ shows are attempting to fill in some of the background to help the sequel trilogy make a lot more sense in retrospect, and the recently announced Rey creates the New Jedi Order film announced this past weekend will hopefully wrap up any lingering plot threads.

Nobody actually said "I have a bad feeling about this" in the Last Jedi.
Well, not in any recognizable language the audience could understand.
Rian Johnson said it's one of BB8's beeps.
Facing off against the First Order armada in the opening scene, BB-8 nervously says, “I have a bad feeling about this” in binary. Poe responds with “Happy beeps here, buddy, come on.”
Now, there's no way we can know for sure if BB8 said those exact words.
Also, since none of us can understand it, I'm not sure it counts as saying it.
So, officially, "I have a bad feeling about this" has been said in every Star Wars movie made so far, but you can only hear it recognizably in 10 of the 11.

J.J. abd Terrio wanted to do 2 parts for this movie, but Bob Iger didn't let them. Rose was cut cause she had scenes with Leia, and cause of problems with technology they couldn't complete Carrie's parts. Leia uses the Force since Episode 5: She can hear Luke, she remembers Padmé, she feels Han's dying, she pushed her body using the Force, and then she created a distraction for Kylo to be killed by Rey.
Palpatine IS DEATH. His body looks like Chancellor Palpatine, when talked with Anakin about Darth Plagueis. It is a cloning lab (Beaumont mentions it). Rey's father is not Palpatine's son, he is a clone. The Force made a dyad between a Skywalker and Palpatine's blood as a trap for him. Without the dyad resurrecting Palpatine he couldn't be killed.
Rey resurrects with the life of the last Skywalker, that is why she rises as Rey Skywalker. The dyad is literally one self at the end.

I liked it a lot more after a couple of rewatches than initially in the theater (partially because I REALLY liked TLJ, and was coming off that high). Most of the problems stem from the film needing to be simultaneously a conclusion to the sequels, the entire 9-episode saga, AND the IV-IX fragment; cementing Palpatine as the overarching villain throughout is one way to do it -- and the part I liked least initially, Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter, would be much worse (and have much less reason for it) if Palpatine himself wasn't there.

    9:32 "Can she heal?"
    Yes.
    Just like Obi-Wan healed Qui-Gon.
Just like Anakin healed his mother, Shmee.
Just like Luke healed his father.
    Oh, wait.
    No.
    Just Rey.

Hi Miss Verowak!🙂Emperor Palpatine did die in "Return of the Jedi". Palpatine says the dark side of the force can be unnatural. He meant that he has come back by cloning experiments. This will be explored later, or earlier in the timeline, so to speak. Nice reations to this Star Wars film that has its moment, Miss Vero!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Jyn Erso in Rogue One for quote trivia. Yes, I am one with the nerd force. P.S nice accent lol ;) Also, in "The Last Jedi" BB8 beeped "I have a bad feeling about this" to Poe

Yes it was Jyn!! Being one with the nerd force is great, definitely something to be happy about. I think the accent gave away the quote, right? 😂

To me force healing was always in the movies from Ep. 4. (Examples: Obi finding Luke the first time and the Emperor finding Vader burned)
Every time a force user came across an injured or unconscious person they put their hand on the injured person’s forehead or temple area.

Which is totally ironic that Anakin went dark side to have the ability to save Padme but healing is a light side power.
Dark side has the power to drain others to save yourself. Light side is about draining yourself to save others.

And finally, Palpatine and his minions used cloning tech and the dark side to create Snoke as an experiment to try and eventually clone himself in an attempt to live forever (Sith can’t become one with the Force like Jedi can as Force ghosts, so this was his attempt at immortality).

The thing is, since I stopped comparing this one with the other episodes, I started to like it. This works for all trilogys.😁 Thank you for the amazing reaction, also loved your final thoughts.♥

I feel like nothing sticks in this movie, nothing should matter. Every significant action at one point is shortly erased at another time.

Palpatine's return was kind of a throwback to a storyline in the old cannon, where he had a place hidden away that had clones of himself, and when he died, his spirit would inhabit the body of the clone. "The Rule of Two" book trilogy (about Darth Bane and the starting of the 'aways two there are, a master and an apprentice') and the book "Darth Plagueis" go into more detail about how the Sith learned to transfer their spirits into other bodies. Sadly, the new movies don't explain that.

I also didn't like Finn or even Captain Phasma (from the 1st two movies). They hyped up Finn as being the 1st black character to be a lead in a Star Wars film, but then they didn't DO anything with the character. And that is the fault of the writers, not the actor. Same thing with Phasma. Hyped as the first female Stormtrooper in the films, but they didn't do anything with her. You have to read the book "Phasma" in order to find out that she really is an evil badass, but the movies fail to show that.

There are aspects of each movie that are good, but for me, the few good parts don't make up for the uncoordinated storytelling of the trilogy.

You've made to the end of what's known as the "Skywalker Saga".
This is a decent movie. Like with "The Last Jedi" I did find parts of this movie that I liked. For example: I absolutely loved seeing the return of Lando Calrissian. Loved seeing the Force Ghost Luke lift his old X-Wing ship out of the water on Ahch-To to the same theme music that played when Yoda lifted the X-Wing out of the water on Dagobah in "The Empire Strikes Back". And seeing Harrison Ford back as Han Solo in that one scene.
Fun Fact #1: Due the the real life passing of Carrie Fisher(RIP always), all of Leia's scenes where reworked deleted scenes from the previous two movies.
Fun Fact #2: The stand in actress for Leia during the flashback scene of her training with Luke was Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd.
Chewie's reaction to Leia's death always breaks my heart every time I watch that scene.
Can't wait for you to start on the "Star Wars" Disney+ shows next.
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

I think he can be still alive.
Anakin was the chosen one he was supposed to destroy the Sith. But somehow Palpatine survived 2 explosions including the death star explosion. How? The movie won't tell you, the book will.
Basically, Palpatine transferred his consciousness to the clone.
That's the logic, how can we be sure he didn't do it again?
