I’ve found that diet and exercise really helps. The reality is, thoughts don’t stop. They just change. The trick is, to not attach emotions to them. Even the good ones. Just embrace the moment and remember that you’re not only where you’re suppose to be. But you get to where you’re going. Stay blessed and keep your head up.
    P.S. prioritize sleep

I think it sucks that therapists like to stick you with labels because then it seems like you can't overcome it even though at the heart of it, it is just anxiety. It has symptoms like physical distress and mental distress. I for example had this fear about my mental health.

the label of OCD has limited me so much because while I am listeninf to Shaan's content, i still feel they don't apply to my situation because I am experiencing OCD and not "non-OCD" anxiety. And then there will be people who say that you can recover from anxiety but OCD is a different beast.

Shaan, your ability to post the EXACT video I need EXACTLY when I need it is really quite creepy. After a relapse last week, I now understand that I was accepting my symptoms but not the thoughts around them, and that’s exactly what this video discusses.

hey this is exactly me at the moment! i had a few questions if you don't mind. last week i had the word "dying" pop up in my mind a lot and it was kinda scary but it eventually didn't bother me. But i got hooked on the "what if having that word means i have OCD?" thought. now i don't have any obsessions/compulsions and yet, i keep thinking omg since i have that word popping up (the word doesn't even scare me) maybe i have ocd? And that having ocd thought is really triggering more than anything else. is this just another intrusive thought from anxiety?

      @@ichiigo-chan Hey,
While I’m obviously nowhere near as qualified as Shaan and co to answer such a question, I’d say that sounds exactly like an intrusive thought. You’ve pretty much said that you don’t think you actually have OCD, just that the thought scares you, and this is probably a habit that’s been built through your reaction. I had/have a similar thing with thinking that I’m going to pass out while out walking. Now, this has never happened, and I’m actually at the point where I don’t even think it will happen, yet the thought still unsettles me. My previous response was to argue with such a ridiculousthought and try and shut it up, but all my mind registered was the importance I was placing on it. Now I’ve tried to take more of a ‘whatever’/accepting response to it, and it seems to be holding less power over me. I’m sure the same would be true of your thought! :)

@@rubbersoul. Im not a doctor, therapist, etc. But im going through the EXACT same thing as you. Ive been thinking about death (not wanting to die- just the topic of mortality in general) for about a month now. Through working closely with my therapist she has discovered I am experiencing really bad PTSD from my dad passing away in January. When he passed I went right back to work within a few days and suppressed my thoughts and emotions. Now that I’m off for summer its been coming out and this is my grieving. This is why my obsessive thoughts about death are surfacing bc i didnt give myself proper time to grieve and digest whats going on. So now that Ive recognized that im working through it and its getting easier everyday! I also tell myself theses are JUST thoughts. Working in the public safety field of emergency response and law enforcement, our job is to quickly figure out the issue at hand and mitigate/solve it. Having been trained in that type of work, and doing it constantly at work, requires a big shift in thinking to try and not think about and figure out the anxiety problem (big, scary thing) and just accept and let it be to burn itself out. I come back to these videos pretty often to re-enforce the need to just accept and let it be..... Thanks.

OCD is much more than having general anxiety! OCD is horrible. It manifests your daily life and takes over it. It debilitates a person to the point that they can have a shower for 6 hrs a day or be afraid of breathing air, wash their hands for 2 hrs, use a bottle of shampoo a day, be unable to focus or concentrate on school, perfecting your hair for 3+ hours, slapping yourself because you are angry with yourself etc. It's so much more than just having intrusive thoughts and people 'wondering' if they have it. There is no wondering. If it interrupts your daily life then you will know how debilitating it really is.

What about groinal responses during sexual intrusive thoughts...why is that happen?

    • @mitchieee143
      @mitchieee143 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

you focus on the sensation bc you fear what it might mean. It’s that judgement of the sensation followed by the meaning making that makes it a problem and more likely to reoccur. the brain being so helpful continues to bring the thoughts to ur attention bc you had a strong reaction to it. It can also seem automatic to track or notice the thoughts and sensations but it only feels like that bc you’ve strengthened this muscle in your brain. Like with any other sensation or thought or feeling we need to practice allowing. thoughts are just thoughts no matter how “terrible” and a sensation is just as neutral. you may cringe at the next line but it’s useful to start to shift that judgement that is so strong with ocd sufferers. It’s simply a sensitization of an organ and it’s normal/neutral for it to react to the thought bc it’s sexual in nature. Yes the content may not be something your comfortable w but its just reacting to sex. It’s what you do with the appearance of the thought and sensation that decides whether it all continues or dies down. I’ve been there and I’ve recovered by just allowing (not chasing certainty) and redirecting my attention. You either continue responding with fear and discomfort or decide that trying to chase certainty is not necessary and you would rather learn to allow and refocus on the present moment. Chrissie Hodges here on yt has some content breaking this down. hope it helps 🦦👍🏼

It’s different for everyone depending on how well you apply the steps

Expecting for recovery IS and avoidance itself and can keep you atached because deep down you are not accepting the problem

Hey Shaan, does this work on people 50+? I see many negative Nancy’s, people cant recover as they age or say “It worked when I was younger. Its hard now that I’m older.”

Hey Brenda, I was in Shaan’s program. Age is just a number. I came across many different age groups in the program who have recovered from anxiety.

I don't know much about OCD, although there is a bunch of symptoms which overlap with each other. I had / have 3 different diagnoses: panic disorder, health anxiety and neurasthenia.

You’re not answering how to deal with anything. Very misleading title to get people to watch your videos and buy your book.

Yes, he’s making a living doing this. It’s always upsetting to me when people who have made it through this process (journey from hell) and then make a living off of it ergo people who lack wealth do to this problem I can’t get the “better professionals). I’m 61 I have been going through this since age 11. Talk about beyond livid!
Hope everyone here gets better, you can do it. ❤️🙏👣
