I stepped up my prices to $150 a song for 5 hours of studio time and 5 hours of mixing with one revision included after a critique is made. I started about 4 months ago. I sort of skipped step one. I don't have a very impressive portfolio, but I found a very talented artist making music with their cellphone. I downloaded the audio and mixed it as best I could and sent it back to them as a gift. They liked it so much that I landed a paid gig mixing an EP for them!
Graham is great, down-to-earth, a good communicator, very intelligent, and he enjoys helping people succeed and believe in themselves. He gives great advice (for free) in an easy to understand way. He's honest and keeps it real. His videos are invaluable. Seems like a super cool guy I'd like to be friends with.
this is the best video i saw regarding some good music advice. Graham you literally own your viewers with such quality content. Thanks a lot for making us better
"Impostor Syndrome" - Wow. I needed words to pin that feeling down. Who am I to sell my music for money? A question I'm finally getting over. It's healthy at the start, when we are still learning, but there comes a time when we are working too hard to give everything away for free.
I've watched a lot of different channels about music production and yours are hands down the easiest to understand and follow. Your videos have helped massively. Thanks a lot.
I joined/bought the audio income project back in August 2016 and my career has been on the upswing ever since. I was in school, making 12k a year working weekends when I got into this. Now, I am a full time freelance audio engineer with an ever growing client list; I made approximately 30k in 2017 working solely for myself. 2018 is already off to a better start. So, thank you for your great program! It really helped me dial in my business and get going. I'll always be grateful for that!!
Hey Jose, I have been looking at the Audio Income for a few days now but I cannot decide whether it'd be a good purchase or not - I'm kind of on the verge but I need some reassurance. Can you please share your experience of the course with me and whether you think it helped you with your career? Thank you!!
Graham, thank you so much for teaching us your technique's . This has been not only a game changer but a life changer also. I've been stuck for 10 years not knowing what would be my next step in music. I recorded a CD 10 years ago in a local studio and didn't get the results I was hoping for. I went numb after that. You have inspired me to not only produce another but go full throttle in studio recordings. Thanks again.

That's the sorta stuff I wanted to hear. I'm in the middle, i'm charging clients, but mostly i'm charging them buttons so need to up my rates, but don't feel my portfolio is yet strong enough, but i'm getting there and setting up and entire soundcloud page of songs/albums i've either produced, recorded, mixed or mastered, which I think will be a great help for me as I only do this part-time anyways.
Thank you graham, this is an important lesson for me today. I am considering selling my skills for extra side income. This could not have come at a better time. And, as usual, your advice is as deep, as it is practical. So thanks again.
I only record singer songwriters. Usually an acoustic guitar or piano. I have a great piano in my studio and 5 nice acoustic guitars that people can use. I don't usually record bands cause I don't have the space but singer songwriters are everywhere and the will pay for recordings and I can turn them out quickly. If you can become a specialist in a particular area, you will be surprised how much work you can get.
If you don't have friends with a band who are ready to record, and trust your skills, join some Facebook groups and make a few posts. That's how I met the first band I recorded for free. It's even easier to find a band who only wants mixing and mastering.
Thank you Graham! Thank you Recording Rev! I just made the decision to follow this plan, and already have someone coming in march for free work. This starts it all. I can't wait to have a website up after a few free records. That's my big ''Paycheck'' I'll be expecting.
Definitely stuck halfway through step 2! I've got a porfolio, I got the skills, I got paying clients, but still I find it difficult to ask people to pay me for mixing. gotta get over that one!
hey graham. long time watcher here. just wanted to say i was a little skeptical at the start of the video, having had "portfolio" websites in the past trying to sell my beats, but the hard partis getting the traffic and getting your name out there, so im so glad that you went further into detail and listed an actual process of obtaining clients. The video was really good. Ive recently achieved a level where im confident that im extremely good at mixing and having produced for people and made beats for the past 3 years with no real monetary success, i find myself concentrating on the most enjoyable part of it for me which is mixing and mastering. I think now is the time that i really start to build up awareness of what i can do, ive started to list my services on fiverr (the freelance app) and im starting to put together a business plan for the mixing side of things. As i dont plan to have a place to record drums, do you think there is a market for mixing bands stems after theyve recorded independently, or do you think stem mixing is more of an EDM, hiphop producer market. To be more specific, how is the demand for mix engineers that dont operate in "professional studios" (where youre allowed to be loud). thanks again for the vids. Tommy
ITSTOMMYNUTTER I think that mixing through pre-recorded stems is applicable in most genres. Glenn Fricker (from Spectre Sound Studios, great channel on recording and mixing metal) says that a lot of the time clients tell him that they only want to record guitars, or drums, or do only the mixing with him, whatever. According to him, at, least, it's a common situation (so it shouldn't be hard to find that kind of work) and the best thing to do is to be cool if they wanna do business with someone else. Certainly not rare.
Good video. My problem is the lack of a space to bring clients over. My home studio is in my attic and while it’s perfectly fine for myself and my band, I don’t think it’s a great idea to bring over strangers through my house with all their gear. I feel I’m at the point where this is the only thing holding me back from doing more work.

Urmi saha Recording inside a DAW is a straight-forward process. The best thing to do is try out a bunch of different DAWs and see which ones you like best.
