Totally false. I saw botters pre 1.10 all the time before enigma came out. Enigma just enable hammerdin bots to flourish which were much less likely to die and could kill just about anything

there is one item missing here from pre 1.10 patch times and that item is CCB (cruel colossus blade). Then it was the BEST weapon for barb and one that was really hard to find with good stats.

wow, first time I found a comment about angelic combo with an insane amount of extra ar. I used to pick it along with my charge pala with a random high attack pike and just go around with like lvl 50-55 and nsap oneshot highlvl guys, not even talking about how fast same lvl guys were going down tho. loved pvp fun

A little ancient diablo 2 history: pretty sure SOJ became main currency in diablo 2 back before LOD and patch 1.08 when there were no unique items beyond shitty normal ones, no runes, no elite items in hell diff. You had to make it with exceptional rares (lance, executioner sword, battle hammer, ornate plate - I played barbs), so being able to reroll a shitty rare into a better one with the SOJ cube recipe made it the most valuable item in the game in the first year of D2. It was also the only way to get +skill on a ring I'm pretty sure, and without charms that was a huge deal. Add the +max mana in the days before casting timers and you got a seriously overpowered ring in a time when all the other items were basically shit. By the time LOD came out it was duped so heavily that it had become the official currency of battle.net even though no one needed to cube rares anymore with much better blue and gold elites, and big runewords out there (perf CCBoQ w 40//15s for 3 SOJ👍). Don't know what the state of the SOJ is now, haven't played other than offline classic now and again in like 15 years. Anyone still seeing this have an update?
if Monarch or any other 4 socket shield were aviable before level 73, at least Bardbarian can wield 2 spirit claymores or dimensional blades early (mine is doing, and its awesome)
This game got me into a lot of trouble with my parents. Spent a lot of late nights NOT doing homework. D2 and Ultima Online. Hate to sound old, but they dont make games like this anymore.

Shaftstop, Oculus, War Travs, Andariel's Visage, Magefist etc could've been contenders too as caster MF/merc staples. Dustin James play single player with plugy or median xl. Unfortunately d2 is a dead game on battle net the bots far outnumber actual players and everyone just mods an hacks in pvp apart from a small number of basement dwellers.
Before enigma people would just have a charged staff with teleport on switch, so nothing much changed. It's more of a quality of life, not having to have that teleport on either switch, or in your inventory.

Not sure I agree. Hoto, Occulus, Titans revenge and Homunculus I feel are higher than a few of those items.

Some of my personal favorites is the Angelics Amulet and ring combo for boost to attack rate works great in classic and xpan.

Enigma broke the game a little I think. I love runewords but I'm not sure it was a great idea giving everyone teleport.

The thing is.. SOJs were currency in D2. If u played long enough and were rich enough. People traded SOJs for godly items and and charms
