    it is a good thing you didn't kill it, it is against the law to kill it. the ranger wouldn't like that.

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I wondered if it was considered an endangered species. I read that it's illegal to kill any rattlesnake in NC and that's anywhere not just in Federal or State lands (according to what I read)

    • @fbweaver63
      @fbweaver63 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LeeHendrixGold yeah, most people don't know that. many people kill any snake and most think any snake in the water is a cottonmouth. the mocassin range is similar to that of the alligator being from the coast through the sand hills. i envy you for being able to see a rattlesnake in the wild. thank you for sharing your gold hunting.

    Lee, after goiing with Jon to all his best 'secret spots' and cleaning them out bare, it is good to see you back at the Uwharrie making a video again. You did well here.

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for saying so. I'm still looking for that next good spot so the pickings will be slim until then. I owe a snake for this video because it gave it just enough umph to make me want to bother with it.

  • @j.hikernut5354
    @j.hikernut5354 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video Lee, glad you let the rattlesnake live, I agree with your philosophy. I haven’t seen a rattlesnake, but I was crotch deep in the water digging material when a very large copperhead was angling down the bank towards my hole. I redirected it. Lol

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oddly enough, I have not run across a copperhead yet in Uwharrie (knock on wood) but do occasionally see one here around the house. I do dispatch those since they are territorial and I doubt Oakley knows the difference between them and blue-tailed lizards (she likes to separate the lizards from their tails and we know what's going to happen when she tries to do that to a snake!)

  • @Ltn.Immelmann
    @Ltn.Immelmann ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well done, Lee. I've also found that it's worth cracking through the bedrock. Buddies of mine have found nuggets up to a gram. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to show it because otherwise many adventurers would have come there.
    We don't have black snakes here. Only adders and grass snakes. Nice authentic video, Lee ⚒👍🤠

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Peter! Yes, Jon is a hammering fool with the rock bar to get those pickers out of bedrock. You've heard of woodpeckers, he's a rockpecker! Too bad we can't use rock bars inside the National Forest so that the cachophony of rockpeckers could drown out the ATV noise 🤣

  • @Swamp-Fox
    @Swamp-Fox ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That hand dredge is pretty slick. Did you make it yourself? I would not consider it to be "mechanical" any more than a shovel or classifier. I guess ultimately it is up to the ranger to interpret the rules, but I don't agree. Glad you spotted that rattlesnake before you stepped on it!

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and I should have made it out of something much lighter because if I accidentally throw it at Jon and hit him in the head, he will possibly be concussed and definitely cussing. I agree with you and there would have to be a better justification than being mechanical because I've read someplace that shaker boxes are allowed. And yeah, if a rattlesnake bit me it wouldn't be the venom that gets me; it would be the heart attack!

  • @MountainrunnerTn
    @MountainrunnerTn ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You had the right call not killing the rattlesnake Lee! IMO that was a classy move.

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I figure if I see one, there are a hundred that I will never see so killing it wouldn't really make things any safer. I'm pretty sure my Oakley would have gotten herself bit if I had her along and off leash. That might be something for dog owners to consider if taking pets with them.

    • @MountainrunnerTn
      @MountainrunnerTn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LeeHendrixGold Good point! My Oakley is a big scaredy cat so I’m not sure if he would’ve gotten close enough to get bitten. Once he nearly got into it with a skunk. If I hadn’t yelled at him to back off he would have been sprayed. 🤢

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, hard to say if my Oakley could be called off in time. She's a beast when there's something in "her" yard! I'm glad you were able to get your Oakley to listen. If he had to ride home with you in a car after getting sprayed I'm not sure that's even possible without a respirator 🤔

    I know some guys in the GPAA here were told not to bring hand dredges back or they would have a expensive day in the park, it was the female ranger. Also there are two kinds if Rangers ones that carry guns can arrest you, ones with out guns have to call the other Ranger to arrest you. Just a FYI for ya! Them snakes aww well they just lay around.....lol, water snake laid on my back one time dredging in the 2ed Broad river!

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have a hard time finding a creek in Randolph county that did not have gold in it. There was a guy interviewed in USA Today a while back that said he had literally found gold in every creek in Randolph. That doesn't mean you'll come home with a good weigh but you will at least find a bunch of dots

    I have carried and used my hand dredge in the uwharrie NF for going on 3 years now never had an issue, the rules state no mechanical tools i do not consider a hand dredge mechanical,i consider it what it is a "hand dredge" i guess it would depend on the ranger on any givin day.

      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว

      How odd, I guess it's just the ranger and his/her interpretation of what's allowed. I know you've had good luck with hand dredging and gotten a good return on the labor. I seem to do better running lots of material off the top of decomposed bedrock and clay that can be shoveled

    • @tinylimo4987

      The trick is to keep the end of the hand dredge in the water and get as close to the bucket before lifting and discharging it
