  • Easy shoveling with meager gold changes to tougher digging and better rewards. Join me for a bucket-by-bucket comparison as I get deeper and deeper in a bedrock trough.

      Jon had to up me. He went back and found a section that delivered an outstanding .92 in 10 buckets without a single picker. I've had some really good weighs when there was a nice picker or two, but he racked up that total with just small stuff 💪

    Love the classifier bucket, great idea. I like to hear you talk about the easy diggings. Where do you think most of your gold comes from, the clay or above it from flood gold? What do you typically dig for in Uwharrie? I tried the clay under a spot where my kid found a picker in the mud, but the clay got us next to nothing. Thanks for the great video.

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The majority of the flood gold I find is generally in a sticky mud that is mixed in with bigger gravel and rocks. Some of the bigger flakes are typically found lower down on the bedrock, decomposed bedrock, or sitting on a clay layer too dense for the gold to sink into. It's usually suggested to just skim the very surface of the dense clay but that's not very practical because the clay is in irregular pockets on different planes. To be thorough, I generally feel the clay with my hands and discard the pieces where I don't feel any grit.

    $30 for a full day of labor. Not very good. And that's on a good day. I hope you find the big nugget soon. The one that was so big it wiped out the dinosaurs when it landed.

      Nelson, it's hard to explain gold fever but it's not a financial motivation or I would have quit after the first time out. Some people like going to the gym to get their exercise but I'd rather get it in a creek and have a little shiny to boot. Thanks for the view and comment 👍

    It’s no accident that you are breaking your own records. You understand stream dynamics and it is paying off. I’d say you are working a virgin drop zone that’s been building for 20 years or more. Will talk more in two weeks when I arrive back in NC. Work it dry and you will likely take 3 grams or more. Great video! Thanks for taking us along.

  • @mrkus-nc7od

    14 buckets 1/2 inch = 4 buckets 1/8 😊 . And with that size of gold why not use miners moss in the very top of sluice ? I deal with smaller gold then yours and that moss helped in the sluice, . Keep digging 😊

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I learned not to use too small of a classifier because there are the occasional pickers and even a 1g nugget I got earlier this summer. I use miner's moss in my 3-stage dredge but the gold it catches is always on the green mat or past the moss on the carpet. I don't know why that is. I guess I'm just not dredging up big enough gold for that to work 🤷‍♂️

    • @mrkus-nc7od
      @mrkus-nc7od หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeeHendrixGold weird 🤔 i guess there are a lot of different miners mosses 😁 your gold is corse compared to the fine gold & mercury iam dealing with my biggest piece 2 mm x 2 mm 🤔 that's out of 16 grams the rest is like 1 mm . I think iam getting gold that got flushed down river from the stamp mills on top a Mountain, Vancouver Island . I catch most gold in the Moss because its tiny 🤔

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just realized that I have never checked it to see what it is catching because I always shake it into the bucket with all the other stuff. Next time I dredge, I'm going to have to check that - you've made me curious!

    • @mrkus-nc7od
      @mrkus-nc7od หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @mrkus-nc7od Yes, love Kyle's channel. He's always designing something and testing it out. In fact, he has been talking to Jon about testing a dredge with an electric pump and since they aren't allowed in Australia, he is sending it here to Jon.

    how wide is your sluice? thanks

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's just big enough it will not fit inside of a 5-gallon bucket which I don't like. It will barely perch on it so it can be washed out without losing gold so that's how I do it. You can always tilt it and just wash everything out one corner into a bucket.

  • @s.d.iprospecting4359
    @s.d.iprospecting4359 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do u find u can run more buckets classifying to 1/2 vrs 1/4 inch classification? I switched to 1/4 inch because i was running dream mat but i have the RPE drop riffle sluice and thinking about going back to 1/2 inch with the drop riffle.

    • @LeeHendrixGold
      @LeeHendrixGold  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I have no problem running 1/2" material since the grooves in my sluice are so thin and deep the larger gravels don't cause any disruption. I can run more material if I spend less time classifying and let the water do the work.

      Thanks Stephen, there are certainly risks to being in the woods all day - chiggers and ticks this time of the year and snakes in the dog days of summer but I think the biggest threat is slipping on a rock that's covered in dirty brown algae 😮
