Hey Guys! Thanks for watching the video! I'm really enjoying how creative I can get with videos! I've been busy with videos for other youtube channels but I will try my best to make sure this channel never dies! (Also don't judge my skating lol)
Interested video, thank you. My father worked for Bauer in the late 70's early 80's. He was worked on the 100 series and I remember getting a test pair before they came to market. It was so, so cool!
The picture at 3:09 is actually a private high school in Massachusetts called The Williston Northampton School. I work at the rink here, and the kids still skate on that pond when it's cold enough. Great tradition to keep alive
@@hendawg7boss40 It's part of the evolution. Protestant British Toronto, the majority, preferred the color blue, while Catholics, particularly the Irish, preferred green. The owners made the final choice, with Conn Smythe coloring his Leafs blue. (Ironically, the poor backward soul that he was, he didn't support Canada's new Maple Leaf flag, preferring a British naval Ensign).
The mid-90's Bauer logo used very predominantly in this video is the absolute definitive article. Much better looking that what they're using right now.
Modern hockey skates are just absurd with how hard the boots are . Prior to 2003 I never had an issue with lace bite or comfort. I get it's for protection and energy transfer etc., but I like my feet and ankles to do the majority of the work. I use a pair of Bauers from 1999 primarily, and I have such a better feel and connection with the ice than I do with my modern skates. They are so much more comfortable because the boot moves with your foot. And, I'm sure the leather boots from the 60's & 70's are that much more comfortable than my 90's boots.
They would have to had benefited by the improved nutrition, the powerskating and hockey schools, and the hockey wisdom of succeeding generations of fantastic players who developed the game. Then, sure, they might be Allstars.. if they could compete with the internationalized competition to enter the NHL.
I've always skated on Bauer supremes. My brother always skated ccm tacks. He's older, so I tried his hand-me-down skates one time, and I hated them. I'll never skate in anything other than Bauer supremes.
Glad you gave a shoutout to Speed Skates, however that is one of 2 types of Speed Skates: Long Track (AKA Clap Skates), and Short Track, I personally do Short Track and with them, the blade is fixed to the boot and held with a tubular steel bar, mine are 17 Inches long, Long Track skates like what you had are only fixed in the front, with a hinge and spring loaded mechanism, allowing the full blade to be in contact with the ice for longer
Thank you for this! Very fun way to learn about the history of skates. I did however find the music hard to get over, it got repetitive, fast! But, thank you.
I was wondering when and where and why people decided one day to strap bits of metal to a boot and make it into a beautiful as well as a speedy art form.. as someone who one day put on a pair of skates and liked it back more than 20 years ago, I didn't really think about, until now that is, why anyone would venture onto ice and speed around with grace..it's not like the gracefulness is automatic for everyone, you know! I even think it counter-intuitive to do the things we do.. and yet we do them.. Thank you for giving me a clue how far back my hobby goes. :)
I actually have one about Sticks already! but you know I always wanted to do a video on the History of Hockey on Television! When I'm doing that i'll try and hit you up!

That's actually very cool!
He probably worked on the Bauer Black Panther skates. My 1st big purchase around 50 bucks or so in the 70s.

My favorite skates I ever had were the BAUER SUPREME 4000 Composites. Bought in the fall of 95’ Awesome skates.
And as an hockey fan of irish descent I love the St. Pat's jersey!
Same Here and The Leafs were originally called the St. Pats!

Try to imagine old players like Phil Esposito and rocket rashard had like ccm tacks 3.0 that would be insane
They'd complain about how stiff they are. That's what the old former pros always say whenever they come to stick & puck at our local rink.
Very interesting and welcome back
Finally. I wasn't sure if this channel had died.
I ended up getting some work at Sportsnet! Thats where I've been

Sadly it did

Nice history! Well done. I remember switching to Tuik blades and how light they were!

Great video! Finally got my first own skates yesterday but the ice has already melted :(
Don't worry bro! It always comes back!!! Enjoy the skates!
Imagine if the guys from the 50s had today's skates how awesome they be!

awesome video. Always loved your content considering there isn’t much high quality hockey videos. Hope to see more in the future
Thanks! Will do!
Good to see you back, hope you're doing ok in this madness!
Trying my best hope you're doing well too!
Very Informative!! Thanks you!
All I remember is that learning to skate at the age of 7 with those skates from the mid 60’s was pretty hard on my young ankles…😂😂😂
You need to tighten those skates way tighter! You'll get so much more control and less wobbly ankles.
Great videos!! Thanks for the #info and #history

1:10 The Finnish men had to fight for their right to use these legbones for building skates. The women wanted to use them for something else.

I hope to make an update video for all my videos as sort of a "facts I missed" video. I'll try to include that in there!

What's the average price of a good pair of hockey skates these days?
You can get a good pair of new Bauer skates for about $100.

HAH! GOTCHA! It was crackers.
Graf canada ruined graf skates with cheaper metrals and a boot that can only last a year
Excellent vid, check my goalie dangles.

Way too little in terms of the history 1900 to 1950.
