      Haha, that's awesome. Reading you comment reminds me of a particular review I once saw, producing those feelings sharper than any other. It was years ago, but to this day I reflect on it while editing. "If I even elicit an iota of that wow factor, I'm grateful". Thanks, man!

    Great review! This game has become my favorite shooter.

      For the longest time Akai Katana was something I felt I was missing out on. Before it's re-release, I recall watching gameplay and looking up the cost of getting a used Xbox 360 for it. Seconds is all it takes to realize the game is fun, something you need to play. I can say now the opinion was true, and that it's probably my favorite horizontal shmup.

      @@solojonathan I bought it for the 360 about 5 years ago. Played it for a few hours and thought it was cool. When it released for the switch/ps4, I bought it again and then learned the mechanics (watching videos) and it has become one of my most played shooters.

      @@MC-hammered I’ve had that experience with Raiden 3 on PS2, so I think that’s awesome, haha. It’s funny how when a game clicks, it’s feels like you’re experiencing it for the first time. Everything makes sense, the gap to the 1CC no longer a chasm. The last game that happened to me with was Ketsui: when I saw a player earn an extend on the first stage, that compelled me to research what was going on. From it, I started to put two things into practice: point blank while dodge across the screen in a “U” motion. This has had a huge impact, especially in Dai-Ou-Jou.

    One of my favourite horizontal shmups!! Great review as always!!

      Haha, that's awesome, man--me, too 😎 I'm curious how you feel about the added stage in Zetsu/Climax and Shin/Slash? I like it, but sometimes wish it wasn't there for 1CC reasons, lol.
      As an interesting side note, the TH-cam Studio app recognizes my channel as a shmup one: all my topic recommendations are amazing games, with one of the top being Raiden III x MIKADO MANIAX. Honestly, it sounds perfect for my next shmup, but Like Dreamer has been pulling at me for a while. Its just odd how it doesn't recommended any horror, FPS, or third-person shooters for research.

      @@solojonathan perhaps even youtube algorithm realized your shmup reviews are among the best around... maybe that's the reason why it pushes you in shmups direction... 😆
      Never played Raiden III mikado maniacs, but Raiden games are usually really good, so nice choice!
      As for Like Dreamer, it's not my cup of tea... I really dont like little anime girls in shmups...

      Thanks, man, and I second opinion about Cave🤘 They arrived at the perfect formula for shmups; no matter how intense, it’s always fun-games that you could play for years, but always feeling fresh. Yesterday felt like a holiday with the release of Dodonpachi DaiOuJou.

    Now avaliable on XB Digital. Improved ocer the 360 version on XBS consoles.

      I'm still surprised that the Shin port left out the tutorials, since the game has mechanics that took me a while to come to terms with. Nonetheless, man, am I glad to finally have access to such a great game. I'll never forget someone streaming Akai Katana, wishing I had a 360 and a copy to play. Other than the golden era of arcades, there's not better time to be into shmups.

      Yeah true, I had no idea what the mechanics of the game were. I wasn't even aware of them until I started to loom for reviews of the game on TH-cam.
      By the way Raiden III Vs Makado Maniax is also out now on digital but seems to be hidden in XB store for some reason in case you might be interested.

    • @solojonathan
      @solojonathan  ปีที่แล้ว

      It took me a while to come to terms: when I thought I had the mechanics grasped, confident to write about it, it would be disproven, lol. What’s striking is that the absent x360 tutorials are hosted on City Connection’s TH-cam channel.
      I reviewed Raiden 3 x Mikado Maniax not too long ago, actually 🤘I think the game is great, and how the Mikado content is incorporated better than in Raiden 4. It’s weird that the game is concealed on the Xbox store, but then again, it doesn’t take me too aback when I consider the Steam version: it was supposed to launch alongside consoles, but until, I think, yesterday said it was coming in June. Now, it reads coming soon…

    Man, I hope didn't mispronounce anything--even if likely did. The game is amazing, and I wanted to put up a video for it when it released last year; but Akai Katana would leave me confused with its mechanics. When I thought that I had understood how something worked, bam, I be refuted, lol.
    My favorite ship is the second one, by the way.

      Me, too. Every time I play through it, I want to give it another go. Before I’ve realized it, it’s been 2 hours and I’m still planning the next run, lol.
      I can’t wait for DaiOuJou later this year.

    • @solojonathan
      @solojonathan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I haven't: I've only seen gameplay. I have a couple games from Orange Juice, but I've missed out on that one. It's on my Steam wishlist, though.

  • @weebnerdgaming4908

    Actually, City Connection DID upload the tutorial videos ON TH-cam! Why did they remove it within the game, though? No one knows; they never explained it! Technical issues or something? But I would disagree the reason you explained in the video, assuming City Connection's Akai Katana tutorial videos are the old Xbox 360 tutorial videos.
    City Connection is pretty notorious for their subpar port works, but the video thing is one of the more baffling ones they have done so far. They... don't make the game crash, at least.

    • @solojonathan
      @solojonathan  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I threw out a guess in the video , that perhaps being made by someone else why they weren't featured. I'm wondering now if it's for commercial reasons: I was aware of the tutorials being on TH-cam, but not that City Connection themselves had uploaded their own 2 months ago (the top result for me reflected another uploader 7 years ago). The videos do appear to be the exact ones featured in the 360 version, where the time stamps and English captions from City Connection match. Honestly, it makes the absence from the new port even more head-scratching.
      Haha, definitely, I’ve never had a crash. Man, I recall my excitement to pick up Layer Section & Galactic Attack, as well as Deathsmiles 1 & 2 when they released; but they seemed showered in negative port news.

      @@solojonathan yeah it is. Even when no TV/Monitor is available you can play in Portrait mode, giving you quite a big screen. Together with the 8bitdo arcade stick its like owning a mini arcade cabinet.
