I started my YT channel back in 2008. I was doing videos of myself playing songs on my guitar. When I got into woodworking a few years back, I watched all those woodworking channels and thought I could do that. But then I remembered what it was like recording and editing those guitar videos. If I'm going to do it, I want to be a woodworker who happens to make videos, not a person who makes videos and happens to be a woodworker.
I've seen a number of woodworking channels go from garage workshops to full-on businesses. I'm happy for those that have found success. As a viewer though, I can't relate anymore. April Wilkerson is a perfect example. I started watching her when she worked out of her garage. I enjoyed her videos and learned from them. Since then, she's built herself a humongous shop and now has a whole 'nother business out of another huge shop. All of her videos these days are made because of a product she's pitching, not because of a project she's building. I rarely watch any of her videos anymore.
By contrast, Stumpy Nubs is a very popular woodworking channel and he has a full-time woodworking business but his content teaches me. Maybe I can't relate to his woodworking success but I get something out of his content. I watch everything he puts out.
Another one is 731 Woodworks. He's still in his garage but he's turned it all into a living. He makes content for the money. I'm not saying his videos are empty. He gives his viewers good information, but how much of it is woodworking anymore? People say that project videos don't get views and that's how he's shifted his focus. Now it's product reviews and how to get more popular on Instagram and how to make money woodworking. Informative, but not very relatable anymore. For me, anyway.
I really enjoy your kind of channel. It's real. I can relate and I can learn. I wish you all the success in the world, but I also hope that you can keep it real. That might be a fine line to toe, but I hope you can do it.

That is my focus, it is a hobby for me. Just as woodworking is a hobby for me. I would love to make videos full time and quit my job but I'm not going to inhibit my woodworking for content purposes. I'll make things I need for my home and some other cool projects for others if I get the chance. Thanks for watching and the good wishes.
