    Really interesting points, thank you. That background “music” was intensely irritating though.

    Thanks for the video! I recently got a very low hr FS5 in perfect condition, to go with my 7yr old HXR-NX3. It's an amazing camera which is so easy to use with fantastic features. Of course the variable ND is great, but the grip with the joystick is a game changer for adjusting menu items. I've teamed it up with the Sony 18-110 and I am stoked with the image quality.
    Cheers Gregg.

    I have my FS5 with the upgrades and + the shogun inferno. The quality is so good. the only downside is autofocus. But if you work with a crew and you have a focus puller. This camera is great.

      I did a couple short films with that exact setup. I found the shogun was a bit awkward on top of the camera though, and it definitely exceeded the limit of my tripod at the time. You're right about the quality; it's so solid!

    It's so good seeing videos like this, I've had this camera for about a year now and am just starting to utilise its features and really come to gras with its potential + atmosphere shogun features. So frustrating reading opinions saying this tech is outdated - it really diminishes other craftmanshift in filming eg lighting.

    • @ZacktheFilm
      @ZacktheFilm  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I completely agree. There's no need to upgrade if what you have are working fine, and not that long ago this would've been considered among the best cameras for video. My philosophy is that newer tech doesn't make older tech worse.

    1:18 I completely agree wit this statement. While rigging out smaller capable cameras is fine and dandy, people forget how much capability a full cinema has thats built in. XLRs, exposure tools, longer battery life, ND filters and the list goes on.

    • @ZacktheFilm
      @ZacktheFilm  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! The variable ND is especially underrated.

    I have two kitted out FS5M2 rigs that I have been using for over 4 years now. Literally the only real downside is autofocus. Great cameras. Crazy, but I can get better images than my A7SIII in some cases. Toss on some faster lenses and this camera is a fun camera to operate.

    • @cheavideography781

      Exactly, Autofocus is the only downside, I love mine too

      It's such a solid piece of kit. I think the one thing that doesn't get mentioned enough is the really good 10bit HD codec that's only 50Mbps. The quality is high, but the data costs are low.

      @@ZacktheFilm I agree completely. For me, the 4k external 10 bit 422, SLOG3 works great as well. With the new denoise functionality in Premiere you can even run slightly higher ISO without degradation. I also LOVE the cache recording in S&Q which the FX6 does not have.

    Have you ever used a shoulder rig? I like shooting handheld and without IBIS I'm thinking the FS7II would be a nice option because it sits on the shoulder nicely, but the FS5II is better for some more free movements.

    • @ZacktheFilm
      @ZacktheFilm  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The FS7 is definitely better for that style of shooting. I haven't used the FS5 on the shoulder because I like the perspective of shooting from the chest or lower better.

    found your video while looking around if the FS5 is still "ok" in 2022 for a secondary setup :D
    hmmm aren't those things like the ND filter, raw SDI out, XLR in or the S-Log profiles like "default" in production?
    We/I was working with such cameras (also Sony^^) for over 10 years now.. and never thought about it beeing "special"

      The new Sony FX3 don’t have it although it’s a smaller form factor. Also it could be set as auto where as the other camera from Canon is only variable nd

    • @ZacktheFilm

      Haha you make a good point! For me though, as someone who learned filmmaking in an era where mirrorless cameras are king, these features are unfortunately not the norm. I can’t help but think many video shooters would be better served by something like an FS5, instead of a photo camera with decent video specs, especially considering the price point of a used FS5 coming under the price of the most popular mirrorless cameras for video. Again though, you make a solid point.

      If you're going for mobility and size the a7 is fine. If you need to tap audio feeds and dont mind carrying the extra weight, i'd gladly take the fs5 any day.

    The only problem: Autofocus, but only problem for some styles of shooting. I have my FS5 + Shogun inferno + the magic Canon EF 24-150 : it is heaven lol

      Yes, they were replaced by the FX6 in 2020. The FS5 can be had at bargain prices though, which is why I think they're still worth looking into!

    Your video is not sharp.. Only if the photographer is worth it. Making a video and a movie are two different things. Weddings are not really a short film, nor is getting footage for many docs. If you shoot for money at least a five hundred you may be making enough to capture your money back in 5 or more jobs, You are learning to get better.

      I was using some SLR magic cine lenses that were super soft. I might've missed focus as well. This camera can produce some great images though if you use it right.

    way too much use of "Really, really," and the word "Really" altogether. Another overused and unnecessary and very idiotic term is the idiom "tons and tons..." you use that time and again, over and over like you're "really, really" saying something important.
    the overuse of those idioms, catchphrases and terms are all hallmarks of an amateur filmmaker or presenter. You look like someone who can afford good things. The use of the handheld microphone doesn't work in this case because it looks like you're doing a newscast instead of a presentation. A boom mount microphone or even a lavaliere microphone would be far better choices for what you tried to do here. A good boom mounted shotgun mic would have served your needs far better and your presentation would have ended up looking and sounding more professional.
    As it is, you started out with those cheapo introductions that every lazy filmmaker, amateur and beginner uses. "Hey Everybody." You got too carried away with using an inordinate amount of cliche's and catchphrases that are completely unwarranted and unnecessary.
    You're trying to captivate your audience. Your efforts are a failure. Your thoughts are a bit disjointed as you jump in rapid succession from one feature to another, one setting to another. You don't give much explanation about the functions and gave a half-assed presentation about the use of DSLR cameras and SLR mirrorless cameras vs. camcorders and video cameras.
    And believe it or not, there are differences between a video camera and a video camcorder. A camera has an interchangeable lens system (bayonet mount) while a camcorder has a permanently attached variable fixed lens. However, many people erroneously use the terms for camcorder and video camera interchangeably. Most people do not realize that there are distinct differences between a dedicated camcorder and a professional video camera with interchangeable lens systems.
    You made some valid and very good points about the differences of functionality between a DSLR/SLR Mirrorless camera and a dedicated video camera/camcorder. The most valid point you made is that video camcorders and video cameras are made specifically for filming video footage. You mentioned the challenges and time it takes to set up a still camera for shooting videos vs the ease of use for a video camera/camcorder. Very excellent points worth noting.
    There are lots of people shooting videos today... A few are pretty good... a few are average looking, but most are pretty much useless garbage. And a vast majority of people are filming with their smartphones or other wireless devices. It works well enough for them, but smart devices are exceptionally limited, as are "tricked-out cameras" that are setup for shooting videos.
    But your over use of idioms like "Tons and Tons" or, "Super, Super" or, "Really, Really..." You kept using the words to describe settings on the camera like "It has tons of features," or It has Tons of Settings" to choose from.
    Look, you want to be a professional. I get that. But quit trying to sound just like everyone else and quit trying to be everybody's friend. You have a job to do. Do the job and do it to the best of your ability, and not the best of everyone else's abilities...
    Don't do it the same lazy-ass way that everyone and his sister does. Be a professional. Do the work. Write a script, use a cheat sheet and rehearse what you want to say. Get to know your product and the settings. Highlight the settings and features that are most important to you. And above all, practice, practice, practice. Keep on practicing until you are absolutely familiar with your product and you know exactly how you want to present it to your viewers. Stop taking the lazy road and be a professional. Or, don't do it at all...
    I am interested in this camera. I didn't watch your full video because I got sick of hearing those redundant and overused cliche's, clicks, idioms and catchphrase terms you kept on using. I dout that I'll be back to finish watching.

      I’m not obligated to reply to this, but your comment is so out there I just had to respond.
      To complain that the use of “really really” is bad because it’s redundant is fair, but to turn around and make the same point five times is so ironic to me.
      Sure, presenting is a skill and anyone making TH-cam videos could stand to improve at it, but relax man it’s not that big of a deal.
      Your comment about microphone choice is pretty silly. I do a lot of corporate and commercial shoots where something like a shotgun mic is a lot more appropriate, but for a TH-cam video there are no such rules. Using the dynamic mic was a deliberate choice and I couldn’t care less if you think only newscasters should use them for video.
      Finally, camcorders don’t necessarily have to have fixed lenses. The FS5 and FX6 are both marketed as interchangeable lens camcorders. If you don’t believe me you can look up the documentation yourself.
      This isn’t my job either by the way as much as I’d love it to be. I make videos to help people and to talk about what I’m passionate about.
