This is the best explanation I have ever found on their midlayers. Having just started with Sitka stuff (switching over from a competitor) the number / types is confusing. Thanks very much.
Great job! I love the core heavy weight and it does exactly as you say. When I the ambient came out, I was sticker shocked and had doubts the additional cost over the heavy weight would be worth it. Keep’em coming
I agree on the Heavyweight hoody, mine began peeling after a month. My Duck Camp Merino wool base layer peeled after first hunt/use (face palm) I was surprised with my Ambient Hoody results, it functions awesome the marketing hype from Sitka is real.
That's a great idea we'll add it to our future videos. The Ambient and Heavyweight hoody pack up small enough to fit in a baseball cap, the traverse is about double the size.
Thanks for the comment, Dale. The SITKA Heavyweight Hoody could possibly be worn as a base layer in some stationary applications such as tree stand hunting for whitetails. However, it is most commonly suited as a mid-layer for most western hunting applications, or other regions where mobility and varying topography are at-hand. To each's own though! - Forest
Would the traverse hoodie work over a core lightweight top, and under a Jetstream jacket as a cold weather active insulation combo? So i be wearing core lightweight+traverse hoodie+Jetstream jacket, and then hike with a fifty pound pack. Thanks
I have not tried, but I would not recommend it. I think you would find quite a bit of restriction in the arms. I'd say go with the heavyweight hoody under the stratus jacket as it's the tightest fitting and also has the most stretch. The stratus will block the wind so the heavyweight won't have to. -Brady
I went with a large on the traverse, mostly because it doesn't have much stretch. On a more stretchy piece like the heavyweight hoody, I went with a medium. -Brady
I own the entire ambient line.
My favorite piece of gear they have come out with in a few years.

Absolutely, glad we could help!

Glad you agree! The price is had to swallow no doubt, but the more I wear the Ambient the more I think it's worth the extra money.

Agreed! The Ambient is an awesome piece.
Thank you for this! Wish you would have shown them next to each other folded/packed so we could get a good feel for that aspect.

I would call the heavy wieght hoodie a base layer more then a mid i use the fanatic hoodie over a light base then the Travers under stratus

I LOVE grid fleece but the ambient is next level. Yes the traverse is more windproof but you should be using a shell at that point.
Absolutely!
I see they make a hooded in mens now.. there goes another $300 lol@@gearfool
Great video
Hey good stuff! I was wondering what type of pants are you wearing? Thanks keep up the good work!
Thanks Greg! Brady is wearing the SITKA Timberline Pants (Lead) in this video. We appreciate the support!
Well articulated.

Great Review! thx
Thanks for watching!
If I snowboarded with the ambient and a Jetstream on would it work as far as warmth and breathability?
If it's not too cold out you'd probably be alright, might be a bit chilly on the lift though.
Could you get the traverse under a stratus jacket?

What size traverse hoodie are you wearing???
I went with a large on the traverse, mostly because it doesn't have much stretch. On a more stretchy piece like the heavyweight hoody, I went with a medium. -Brady
@@gearfool thank you
What were you wearing as a base layer?
I believe I was just wearing a t-shirt in this video, but the Sitka Core Midweight is my go-to base layer in colder conditions. -Brady
What size are you wearing in the traverse?
Brady is wearing Size L in the Traverse here. - Forest
What microphone are you using?
We were using the DJI Microphone Kit here.
You can purchase that ambient hoodie in a size Large Tall and that'll fix your sleeve problem!
Yessir, I just ordered one for myself the other day.
