Interesting stuff. I have really been liking the lightweight NuYarn pieces (BlackDiamond and Kuiu). I would really like to see some side by side comparisons.
We agree! SITKA really "knocked it out of the park" with their latest Core Merino 120 (LS and Hoody) and their ArmorSpun textile manufacturing technology. - Forest
Good day. Great review. I’m busy adding to my existing items and been looking at the Merino options in Open Country. On the Sitka website the Merino options in Open County seem to have a different colour to other material options. Maybe just the way the images are taken? Or is there an actual colour difference. Many thanks.
Merino is a difficult material to print patterns on. There will be a noticeable difference between a merino in open country and a polyester in open country. However, the armor spun material does better than most merino with camo due to the Nylon. Go to gearfool.com next time you need some gear if you want to support us!
I'll try and get to that video this winter. I'm still using it as a hunting piece and daily piece and I'm definitely satisfied with the way it has held up. Just try not to send it through the dryer too much.
Hey Craig! SITKA really is on to something with their ArmorSpun technology. We're anxious to see how this new merino collection holds up to a full season of use. Good to see you here!
If you’re sitting in a stand the heavy weight base layer. If you’re hiking and want to stay warm I’d go 330 merino. Depends on the activity. Merino will keep you warm even when you sweat, and the other stuff will keep you warm while your sitting though from my experience
You mentioned sizing, thank you! Can you tell us your height and weight to give us a better idea. I’m 6,1, 190-195, and have mostly Large, I do have a core lightweight hoody in XL, it’s loose, but not super baggy. Thanks!
Hi, Bryan. Thanks for the comment. KUIU makes some incredible products too, but having worn both I'd definitely side with SITKA here on this type of merino product. Best of luck to you this fall. - Forest
I’m glad I found this channel. You guys have been a huge help in helping me choose what layers I need for this upcoming season
We're happy to hear it! Thanks for the feedback.
Nice touch on pointing out the stitching!

Thanks for the NuYarn comparative suggestion! We'll have to see about taking a look at it and seeing how it compares to the ArmorSpun seen here!
That 120 hoody looks awesome 😃

Can you guys do a long term update on the 120. Curious how it held up in terms of durability.

really nice base layers
The 120 is unreal. Haven’t tried the other 2 but the 120 basically stayed on me everytime out.
We agree! Adding a 220 product from their ArmorSpun collection works just as well for colder climates. Solid fit, feel, and function.
@@gearfool I just wish they chose a different color for the 330 lol but that’s just preference
@@Stykbow True. Perhaps they'll include other color options in the future though.
I use the core lightweight for next to skin. Would the 220 or 330 be good for over top of that? Thanks!
These sound like a great addition. I like the new design idea which will provide more durability to the merino.

All three weights look awesome and I can see a use for all three in my kit. The 330 would be money for a waterfowl hunt.
Thanks for the comment! You're definitely on to something here with your waterfowl suggestion and the 330! 🔥
As for the bottoms, which would provide more warmth: the 330 or the Heavy weight base layer?
