TV programme production companies could do far worse than employ Al Murray to present a lot more WW2 documentaries. He's an exceptionally knowledgeable WW2 historian, and a great natural presenter.
Agree been listening to his Audiobook "Arnhem Black Tuesday" very well put together and a blow by blow account of the chaos an Airborne landing can become.
I ran into Al Murray in Arnhem last Friday night, I'd last seen him when he was filming "The Road to Berlin" in 2004 (20 yrs ago) when we were on the same C47 jumping onto the same DZ they're standing on! He's right about the hard landing he'd had, same for me too, plus the chutes we used were not steerable, so you could end up landing any which way! What a great guy btw, keep up the good work Al.
Al Murray and James Holland are very good historians. Remember 10,000 went into Arnhem, around 2,000 came out. Good to see the BBC running a segment on this.
Lest we forget ,In memory of those brave allied Paratroopers that lost their precious lives ,We will remember them and their name liveth forever more 😢🙏🏻💔🌺💐Many thanks to those Ex Paras who are still with us 80yrs on ,We owe them a debt of thanks and they should be given the key to the cities they try liberate,Total respect and big thanks .👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
To be clear, this commemmoration happens EVERY year. Not just now because it's 80 years ago. The Dutch NEVER forgot the Canadian, British and Polish soldiers that gave their lives for our freedom.
The Dutch people are pure class. As a Norwegian I feel a deep connection with the Dutch story of the war. There are so many interesting parallels. Both countries occupied mid 1940. Both monarchies. Both monarchs fled their country to seek refuge in Britain and became very important symbols of resistance for their people (Kong Haakon VII and Queen Wilhelmina). Both governments became governments-in-excile in London. Both countries had big merchant fleets which became very important in the Allied war effort, at a huge cost for the seamen.
I can't imagine the current generation to actually fight for their country. Imagine if someone assumes their gender. They would be bursting out in tears

Did a high-ranking British officer see recon photo's of german tanks before Market Garden??
I believe they did but ignored the intelligence from the Dutch underground.

Freedom? Uhm ... Mussert is ruling the Dutch again, only this time his name is Wilders.

Red parachutes on this occasion was CGS and the other comds - Fd Army, 1XX and 16X BCT.
The Bame Broadcasting Corporation forgetting to mention the huge contribution of the Poles back then and as part of the jump today.
Think Al mentioned them and quite rightly too
They were mentioned. Do you have a hearing problem?
Al spend a lot of time talking about the Poles contributions in his podcast. It was great.
Indeed the Polish independent parachute brigade, on my many visits over years past i met several of them.
