Don't apologise for talking about money in a cost of living crisis. We come here to dream. Thanks for taking us away from reality. Great vid as always.

I understand you guys are in California, and Newport Beach is definitely one of the most expensive places to shop. You will definitely find the highest of high prices in that location. Also, so many dealers are sitting on older inventory they are buried in, and don’t necessarily want to lower their prices to the current marker conditions and lose a huge amount of cash. Cheers blokes.

It’s not just a Newport thing. On auto trader, ALL Huracan STOs across the country are listed at around 500000, especially delivery mileage.

    • @EEvtg
      @EEvtg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

It's not the location, check autotrader...

The US exotic car market is National, not Local. Buyers ship their cars cross country so that the market is very efficient and there is very little price arbitrage. It’s not Newport prices, but National prices. Newport Beach houses on the other hand can’t be shipped, so those extreme prices are very local.
Lastly, it’s the UK’s crappy economy and crappy exchange rate responsible for your cheap exotics. The US economy is still pretty strong. When I worked in London back in 2007, it was 2 to 1 pounds to dollars. Even if your exotics are $100,000 cheaper, Americans just don’t want them because they are right hand drive and that’s looked down upon here (unless it’s an Aston Martin DB5 or a Nissan Skyline GT-R). For something like a 488 Spider or 992 GT3, even if they were importable from the UK (they aren’t), it just screams I’m too poor to buy a proper left hand drive car for the states.

These cars cost 50% more in Canada! You guys are mega lucky in Europe. I've watched your channel religiously and I'm always astonished by how attainable your supercars are and also why there are so many supercar TH-camrs out there.

Yeah I live in BC and the cars here are uber expensive and have a 25% tax for anything above 150k. That SVJ roadster here in Canada is over 1.4 million + 25% tax. 488s up here are over 400k
And the best part is our wages and economy are way weaker than America

    Hi Sam and Tony
If you think car prices are high in the USA, you should see what they are like in Australia where we have a Luxury Car Tax imposed on vehicles costing more than $72,000. The LCT is aimed at protecting Australian car manufacturers, of which we now have none!

    • @dc1674

In Costa Rica all cars cost 50-100% more than in the US, no matter the price, due to import taxes. Not to mention $500-$10,000/ registration tax.

GBP 215,000 equates to AUD 380,000. In Australia the average income is about $70k however you really need to be earning $100k to get anywhere. $380,000 wouldn’t buy you a house in Melbourne or Sydney but it’s a damn good down payment.

6:35 - That is a 2017 488 Spider with 4,000 miles. NBAG is asking $334k. A similar spec with 5,200 miles is for sale in FL for $289k. Probably can be had for around $275k.
6:50 - 992.1 GT3, NBAG is asking $288k, my mate just sold his which has a higher MSRP and more options for $250k.
8:00 - Delivery mile STO, NBAG is asking $499k. The same car is available in North Carolina with similar mines and spec for under $425k.
NBAG (Newport Beach Automotive Group) just asks stupid amounts of money for cars. Don't waste your time there.

Thanks for the great video, as always. Worth noting that I would not use the exchange rate for comparisons. Odd, I know. But, the FX changes a lot over time (it was $2:£1 in the 00's). I think benchmarking vs local salary is better. I live in the UK and worked in the US for 15 months around 2017, and I got paid $2.1 for every pound I had been earning in the UK. Because, everything cost twice as much!

I appreciate McLaren, their design language, engineering, etc. but reputation for being unreliable haunts the brand. I can't see values holding well on these cars as the tech begins to age and miles creep up on them, many could become unusable lumps a few years down the road. Great video and insight as always! Maybe a podcast really analyzing the cost differences in markets around the world is warranted?

When moving from UK to US and looking for a 5yr old SUV I’d expected the price to have dropped like a stone but not so. Depreciation isn’t as great as it was in the UK at the lower end of the market.
