Dismantle a pallet quickly in about 3 minutes with a sledge hammer

A quick and efficient way of dismantling a pallet with only a sledge hammer and some recycled pallet wood. This method works extremely well for me and I haven't seen anyone else use it. You can quickly dismantle a pallet and significantly reduce the number of cracked and split boards, leaving you with more useable wood for your projects. The cracking and splitting is reduced because this method uses force on the side runners to detach the deck boards and does not put direct pressure on the deck boards like other prying methods.

Your method obviously works well for a younger person with a
good back. However, at 77 and
with a not so great back, a pallet
buster is best (?) for me. I am not
knocking your system but if you make it to 77 I’d be surprised if you’re still doing it the same way.

do yourself a favour and buy yourself a pneumatic punch nailer for removing the nails. It is much less effort and ten times faster.

Su técnica es buena pero le pegas con el martillo directamente a la madera cosa que yo no hago utilizo mártires o tacos de madera. Yo tuve la idea de en vez de hacer un patrón colocar un palé igual en posición inversa debajo el resultado es el mismo pero el tipo de palé que yo trabajo es diferente. De todas maneras tu técnica me gusta aunque la madera sufre los golpes del martillo. Un saludo desde España

An additional suggestion…. What if you used a piece of scrap 2x4 or scrap runner and sledge hammered that so you didn’t have to bend down so much? It would keep you more vertical and less prone to fatigue… of course, you’d only be hammering with one hand, but using a 4 lb sledge hammer, the weight of the hammer would suffice I imagine. Someone else might have made this suggestion already but even as a younger guy my back fatigues very quickly

OK, I like the job, didn’t really pay too much attention to the time, but the only thing is that using that 4 pound hammer and bending over like that to separate the boards….. honestly, my back wouldn’t last very long….. it would be my only objection to your method. maybe one other thing, pounding the nails out….. I’ve been cutting a lot of nails lately and leaving about an inch, so just one little tap will expose the head of the nail when you turn the board over….. it’s a lot easier to pull out.
