Thanks for inspiring people to save perfectly-working stuff from becoming waste. I've saved my fair share since first watching the old dumpster vids. So many companies can't be bothered to let a donation center take things away to get reused!

    • @mbak7801
      @mbak7801 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I believe they are not allowed to donate as they remain liable for any personal injury claims. If they throw out and people take them (strictly theft by finding) then they are not liable.

It's not just a decade of dumpster diving, It's been a decade of amazing videos, funny moments, excellent finds, and best of all, you've saved tons of E-Waste from landfill, repaired so many items and made us laugh.
BTW I have the same Panasonic PBX as the one at 3:41 in this video and I used it to make a telephone/PA system in my house. Best of all, my Panasonic PBX was found in hard rubbish which is cool because it works perfectly and is compatible with analogue phones.
And yes, it's truly amazing what people throw away. My greatest all time hard rubbish find was a giant stuffed teddy bear that had nothing wrong at all except for a small hole on the back. A Google search of the bear told me that it has a retail price of over $500 and I got one for free. I also saved it just in time because after I had gotten home, it started raining and the bear would've been ruined if I didn't save it when I did. Because I found it in hard rubbish, I named him Hardy and use him to calm down when I'm stressed.
Can't wait to see what the next decade of dumpster diving has in store. We'll have to wait and find out.

So much WIN! Now take this one dumpster room and multiply it by the number of commercial buildings in the whole country and you can start to get an idea of the amount of "e-waste" that people discard all the time. It's astronomical. Most of this could be recycled and re-used, as we have seen that pretty much everything works.

Awesome finds, in my country (the Netherlands) it's nearly impossible to find waste like this. It's all under so much control. This is TERRIBLE because a lot of great items are being thrown away that you are not allowed to reuse after they've been sent to the trash. It's insane how hard it is to find old e-waste.

If you're lucky enough to live in an affluent college town, you'll easily discover literal gold mines. Towards the end of the school year, rich students will often dump brand year old computers, stereos, televisions and appliances because they just can't be bothered. One year I made over $35K reselling my scores on eBay and the classifieds. At the end of every semester, I would score nearly new textbooks in the trash and resell them, making hundreds of dollars.

Bin Hoakers United, we roam the night,
With curious hearts and a hunger for sight,
We scavenge through dumpsters, bins and all,
In search of treasures, big and small.
We don't care for labels or brands,
Our joy comes from what we find in our hands,
    A book, a toy, a forgotten meal,
    Each discovery, a unique thrill.
We're often met with disgust and scorn,
But we see the beauty in what is worn,
In things that others throw away,
We find potential, day after day.
Bin Hoakers United, we work as one,
With a shared purpose, and endless fun,
We celebrate the discarded and rejected,
And turn trash into treasures, unaffected.
So here's to the Bin Hoakers, brave and bold,
To the stories that our findings hold,
May our bins never be empty or bare,
For there's always something, waiting in there.

Dave, I love your videos! I have been watching your channel since... well, I can't remember, maybe 2010 or so. I am Brazilian (but from Italian ancestors), born and raised here, and I'm a civil engineer. Believe me, you will hardly find these kind of e-waste in good conditions here. At least not in dumpsters like yours. There are people (mostly poor people) that act like scavengers, diving into public dumpsters trying to find anything valuable. They crack open any electronic device in the middle of the streets, take out copper wires, metals and other valuable items, and leave behind the plastic, glass, and all non-valuable parts.
I wish I could find a good working PC like these you found. My PC is a Pentium D with 8 GB RAM from 2006, and it is still working. Started with windows xp, than 7, now 10. I won't install 11 since it's not compatible with TPM 2.0.
    Best regards!

That glass box at the end would've made for a great dual-motherboard PC case. 3D print the internal brackets, a couple of fans on the top holes, stick a watercooler tube through the valve hole at the back, hard drive sleds go through that side hole, you've got yourself a brilliant little renderfarm or crypto machine. Plus with RGB everything it would look like Orac from Blake's 7.
