I have had this watch for a little over three years now, and I have only good things to say about it. While it may be a concern that it has too many functions that needs a bit of learning, it really is not terrible in any way. I have a comparatively small wrist, and this 45mm dial sits rather nice on it; probably the only 45mm case that has ever looked alright on my wrist. And I have received a lot of compliments for this watch because of the blue and sophisticated looking dial. It's a definite hit for me!
If you leave it set on calendar mode instead of stopwatch mode, you can see the day and date on the same screen. The watch you compared it to has none of the special features and only the date, not the day!
Hi Mavs Dad, thanks for reviewing this. I really like the features of this watch, I'm mainly looking for day, date, timer, 37-40mm. This watch being not so user friendly is a letdown. Thanks, for the valuable info!
I don't quite get the function of the red hand as chronograph/date. Is it possible to leave the red hand showing date, permanently? Or do you have to press the button every time, to show the date? Thanks for the great review!
Heshan Jayakody you can switch between Date/Alarm and the Chronograph mode and stay there as long as you wish. You can download the manual from Seiko as pdf under Support with the code: V198 in you favorite language. I like the SCC35/5/7/9 but missing the second timezone. The only strange thing in my eyes is the Alarm setting. Other watches like the Citizen BL5250-02L can switch on & off without loosing the alert time...
I don't do tutorials as they bore the hell out of me :) But there are a couple good channels that do but I haven't see one on this particular watch I'm afraid.
Great video Mav's Dad! Would you know if the alarm dial could be utilized as a gmt function? On some Seiko chronograph's you could use the alarm function as a secondary time. Keep up the great review's!
Yes, the battery capacity goes down to %80 after 20 years. And this means after 20 years this watch will still work in the shadow for 4,5 months. So practically we can say you wont need to change the battery for about 50 years. Automatic watches needs maintenance between 5 and 20 years (if you use it carefully). Quartz 10 years max (most models 2-3 years) then you need to change the battery. So all in all, solar is the best if you want a watch that wont need a maintanence of a watch maker for a long time. NOTE: The type of battery and the quality of the solar watch is also important here, but still solar is expected to be the longest working watch without battery change.
Looking at this with the black face or the citizen world time a-t. The one with red accents and stacked hands. Would you recommend one over the other ? Great review 👍🏻
Another detailed and honest review Mavs Dad, as you say it's a shame this isn't a user-friendly piece which is unusual for Seiko. How much does this watch retail for? I don't recall you mentioning the price in the review. Thanks.
Yes the first time setting it can be frustrating, take it to any local watch seller, and they will set it for you. And after that you will never have to set it again. Its perpetual calendar chronograph watch with a great design... And solar. And alarm :) At this price range impossible to find anything like this.

I own the watch. You can have the day and date at the same time.

Does Seiko refer to this as a diver? With that bezel it's more of a racing/pilot's watch.
It is indeed a pilot watch. That was a mis-labeling on my part. Thanks for catching it :)
Great review!!! I bought one as well. Any chance you can provide a tutorial on how to setup the watch please?
I don't do tutorials as they bore the hell out of me :) But there are a couple good channels that do but I haven't see one on this particular watch I'm afraid.
Thank you for the nice review, especially for the lug width as I want to buy a new strap.
Thank you so much. That's always so nice to hear! Feel free to stop by my Patreon account if you like(had to say it...lol).
Seiko Chronographs with alarm are real bitches to set. Needlessly complex.
where can I buy this watch at $300? I paid $480 last week
There's a link in the description :)
Is it automatica ?
Ordered a Seiko solar chronograph from MACY'S and it arrived without the instruction book. Macys sucks.
You made a review in a watch you dont know how to use doesn't mean the watch is not user friendly.
You making a comment doesn't mean you know anything about watches. Thanks for watching!

It can :)
its the v198 movement in this one and it is also a perpetual calendar in addition to chronograph, alarm..
Great.
does solar means its solar operated and doesn't need battery ??

yes, it looks beautiful but not user-friendly...
lleva pila este reloj?
jesus luis freire bustabad no, es solar incluso esta escrito dentro del reloj
@@jorgegodines6829 Los relojes solares SI llevan pila (acumulador).
Catch 22 with this watch huh
necesito el precio del modelo 1D0438
No hay modelo 1D0438 que pueda encontrar. ¿Cuál es el número de modelo de Seiko?
I have this watch. It tells the time. The rest is just too much of mission. NOT user friendly.
Disagree. I've had it for about a year now and, once I got used to it, it' pretty straight forward.
SEIKO
No dices ni verga de lo que uno quiere
What a painful watch
