If you think about it there should be way more working lifeguard dogs. I’d feel much safer.

Best breed. Incredible with children and family, loyal and loving family dog. These dogs were bred for water rescue and cart pulling. While they will bark they are not guard dogs. They're also nanny dogs. Your kids could crawl all over them and the worst that happens is your kids will giggle and be full of fur. If you don't like shedding, this is not the dog for you. Owning Newfies is a way of life....and once you have one you'll definitely want more than one....or two...or three. Other than brushing, easiest dog you'll ever own; nondestructive couch potato.

Good girl!! So I wonder how she did her first summer on the job. Did she have to rescue anybody?

How do you protect a dog like that from the sometimes extreme heat at the beach?

I agree! Should have used a white dog instead!

As someone who owns a Newfoundland dog (almost exactly the same age as the one in this video), trust me when I say that they're very good at regulating their body temperature, especially when they have access to water. It gets up to about 40C during the summer months here, and my girl does WAY better in the heat than my Golden Retriever. A Newfoundland's thick double-coat works like insulation on a house-- keeps them cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

They are used for water rescue all over the world . They mispronounced Newfoundland, at the very least say it as it is written 🙄
