What does a club ambassador do, anyways? Fergie is 82 y.o., if he has any actual responsibilities inside the club then it is the right time to pass them to someone younger and enjoy his retirement as the club's biggest legend by a mile.

well speaking from someone with high connections at Utd, Richard brought back Alex and David, alongside Robbo, made up the Advisory Board, Alex has and always will have the freedom of the club, will never change... We have several Global Ambassdors anyway including Beano, Robbo, I think Wessier is one too and since this summer Mata is onboard too, Alex was never a Director at Utd on any offical capacity anyway, those yoks across in States never or would ever have it. Jim was right though in his decision, Alex will be 84 and with his past life theatening health, it's the right call.
on accounts well Sam, I don't think you know the true debt period, way way more that you think, we're talking B's hidden away in a portfolio, you do realise those yoks borrowed yet again of Bank of America to pay of the 1st Share loan of 3 that expired end of June, was around 240/50 mark, first of 3 that makes up the so called offical debt on the books.
On the publicaly realised 1/4 reports, they ain't and never have been true figures, why, cause they need to be Audited by a 3rd party Chartered Accountant, hence if you go back and look at any, all marked as Unaudited, only Company Hse, major Class A and all Class B, The SEC (for forseeable few years) hopefully the plans will work, will received it.

The way Ineos are going about stripping costs out of the club is exactly the way a private equity firm does it when they take over a new business. These are bitter pills to swallow, but pills nonetheless. If Ineos feels SAF can bring additional value to the club that justifies a salary, they will bring him back with that specific role. We can't expect change while everything remains the same- and the first team magically starts playing great football and our balance sheet magically sheds all debt. These are hard but necessary calls.

Granted had Glazers done this they would 100% only do it to fill their own pockets while the INEOS are trying to cut spending to sort out our horrible financial position.

Fair enough. He is absolutely minted, no need to pay the man a huge amount of money per annum following retirement. It also helps the manager without the ghost of Fergie.

    They're not ruthless they're tight - there's a difference.
They have no problem keeping a guy bringing us shame on a weekly basis (because it'll cost 16m to get rid of him) but they all of a sudden know how to fire when it comes managers who have brought us glory because it costs money to keep them in their currently role.
If someone told them they could save 50p by sacking EtH he'd be gone by midnight.

Fergie must’ve been close to stepping down anyway, he’s 82 ,he’s had a serious medical condition in recent years, he’s wealthy, doesn’t need the money and doesn’t need the stress. Maybe he should’ve been asked quietly to voluntarily stand down from his paid ambassadorial role

Well done INEOS we need to continue making these cost cutting measures, £2 mill per year in the last decade are we just going to carry on paying. We will see the benefits of these measures in a few years leading to a healthy financial position.

I think it's a bit naive to not fully understand the deal and make a judgement on it or call it ruthless. He could have been offered shares in the company, dividends based on X performance benchmarks, etc. Basically, they could have just changed the comp structure from a automatic payout to something that actually has more upside. We have no idea the specifics.

We could be in a lot of trouble with FFP (especially if the Premier League come down hard on City) if we’re not careful so this makes sense. Feels tight given he’s in his 80s and everything that he’s done for the club but it’s not like he’s having to use a food bank or relying on a state pension.
