Norwegian composer Johan Svendsen (1840-1911) was a contemporary and rival to Edvard Grieg. His Norwegian Rhapsodies were built on the guise of Liszt’s own; some of which he orchestrated. The tunes collected in here are of popular extraction, belonging to Lindeman’s collection of Older and Newer Norwegian Mountain Melodies, always paying attention to harmony and rich counterpoint.
El compositor noruego Johan Svendsen (1840-1911) fue contemporáneo y rival de Edward Grieg. Sus Rapsodias noruegas fueron influidas por aquellas de Liszt; algunas de las que Svendsen orquestó. Las melodías puestas aquí son de origen popular, perteneciendo a la colección Viejas y Nuevas Melodías Montañesas de Noruega de Lindeman, siempre poniendo atención en la harmonía y en contrapunto rico y denso.
