Saw him at Yoshi's in Oakland... sat front and center about 5 feet from the bandstand. He was playing his Balanced Action Selmer that night. I've always love his tone, assuredness, his cool and his downright sexy way of playing. My girlfriend at that time treated me to the concert... Thanks Jenny R. for a great night with this immortal Mr. T. He passed away shortly thereafter... and my Jenny dumped me too... but I still have some great memories thanks to both of them.
I remember my ex-husband would play this back in the day on wax (album) he gave it to our son and he still have the album, Man this was the jazz back in the day.
Stanley T was great and this song is the one that got me. I love live, but in this case and only in a few of the other of my favorite musician's/bands, I think the track on the vinyl is the best for me. "His Don't Mess With Mr. T" album is the bomb. Over the years I've had to purchase that album 4 times, same with Traffic's Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys album. I enjoyed this live version. Thanks much.
I've always loved this tune. It has that whole "late-50's private eye show" vibe nailed, which I find so cool! If I'm not mistaken it was originally on the soundtrack to the movie "Trouble Man", which was written completely by the wonderful Marvin Gaye.
Love Stanley's mention of CTI and Bob James. In '70s, Creed Taylor had his own "Wall of Sound" with all the great jazz artists he brought together. I owned so many CTI albums back then it wasn't funny.
@@Ewerb7 Back when records had laminated covers. Them CTI cats was bad mothas Joe Farrell and mr. Turrentine could play their asses off. May they rest in peace.
RIP MISTER T !!!
"DMWMT" has to have one of the BADDEST record covers of all time!
I still have my original....
I play this tune often myself....
No one is more soulful than mr T… his timing is so perfect, every single note is perfectly placed…

The black lacquered Selmer Super Action 80 II definitely cuts through better live than it does on albums. This is awesome!!
Just Wonderful!!

I still have my CTI collection and a turntable to play them. They were some of the best recordings ever produced, and the album jackets are durable.

my band teacher is Mr. T. he's six foot nine and has a full beard. he's bloody terrifying. i laughed hard at this song.
I think that's my guitar teacher, Dave Stryker! Y'all gotta check him out.
olejazzman I hear you!!!!!
Nossa...isso é bonito demais...Dá um trem bom dentro da gente...
nice sweater mr. t!
🔥🔥🔥
Marvin Gaye was/is the human version of the saxophone; and the well-played saxophone is the mechanical version of Marvin Gaye!
Stanley played the Blues
Dave Stryker!!

Anyone know who the guitarist is on this?
