    Nobby was never forgotten by those who saw him play. I remember on game at Craven Cottage over Easter in 1967. We were 1-2 down and struggling. Forest were breathing down our necks at the top and there was only a few minutes to play. Matt sent Nobby up with the attack and he grabbed the equalizing goal and a point. The next day was the return at Old Trafford (you read that right) and Nobby scored our first goal in a 2-1 win. He was a crucial part of that title-winning side. It's heartbreaking what he went through in later years but now he's at peace and we who saw him play will always remember him.

    After watching several matches of that Man Utd team I have to say he's totally underrated with the clichè tough midfield butcher image. Which of course he was 😂 but he had quality as well, and leadership too. Fast, good technique, dynamic, came forward to support the attack and could play with his head high. Almost a midfield general.
    His excessive foul play is an overall problem of English football especially back then, in the fact that when defending they all went for the man instead of going for the ball.
    No surprise Bobby Moore, who read the game in anticipation and either went for the ball or marked at distance, looked like a miracle at the time.
    This going for the man is especially evident in the two matches against AC Milan in 1969, in which by the way United were clearly outplayed, with their 3 stars all showing the start of their descending arc, and managed to fight until the last second almost exclusively thanks to Stiles. He was amazing in nullifying Eusebio after the first 15 mins in the 1968 final as well, while still carrying the midfield play. Great player

      Thanks for your analysis and comment. Got to agree, Nobby was underrated. With so many stars in that team, not just the famous Trinity, Nobby did not always get the credit he deserved. But he was a superb footballer. JG

      @@ManUtdTheReligion yeah hard to call underrated one who won both World and Champions Cup LOL but in terms of memory and of how he is identified as the classic hardworking no quality chap kicking more legs than balls, he totally is. Complete player. Better than Roy Keane for me, and I liked Roy Kean a lot. He's the unsung fourth musketeer among the Big Three

    Tavy@ nobby was a great player and was great at reading the game. Alot of players cant read the game wich is a skill itself. Like the current celtic team, none of them can read the game. Wich is why they were so bad. And nobby could pass a ball right onto your feet. Like that pass he made to george best against rapid vienna when best scored that great second goal by seemingly having to get out of danger with the ball as two rapid vienna players and the goal keeper tried to block him as george moved to his left to get some space then he just hit the ball into the roof of the net with his left foot as if it just came out a cannon, its one of his greatest goals i thinck, but rarely shown. But my point is best had the ball just over the half way line then gave it to nobby then best made a run into the box then nobby sent a 30 yard pass right over about 8 players and right onto bests foot inch perfect. Thats whats known as reading the game, as well as the long inch perfect pass. Nobby didnt need george to tell him what to do, best had made the run before his pass had even reached nobby. And if nobbys pass to best wasnt inch perfect and was a foot or 2 too long or too short best might not have scored. It was 1969 at old trafford in the european cup quarter final. rip in nobby. rip george !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      @ManUtdTheReligion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brilliant memory Alan and a truly insightful description of a special goal and how Nobby was such a great player. You are so right that reading the game is beyond many modern day players. Bobby Moore’s ability to read the game was legendary and why he was so good when he was not quick. All great players have that inherent ability to read the game. Nobby was so much more than a tigerish tough guy. JG

    When Nobby sold his medals did the club not out bid everyone to give them him back? That’s why they got donated to the museum?
    R.I.P Nobby 🙏🏻❤️

    • @ManUtdTheReligion
      @ManUtdTheReligion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My understanding is that the club bought the medals. I do know the family and I’m not in a position to say any more. But what I will say is that the whole of football pretty much forgot about Nobby for the last decade. And the game has failed to take responsibility for dementia being caused by football. I know that the family want the media to put pressure on football to act over dementia. And this is something we are looking to support going forward.

    This is one of the worst narrations I've ever seen/heard. I thought Gubba was a commentator? RIP. Nobby. I had dinner with him and Kay once in Sale at Pacino's and he was a proper bloke. A fabulous chap with no airs or graces whatsoever. What a great man.

      This was Nobby’s last ever TV interview which I filmed at Old Trafford. I did not run it un-edited because he was already struggling with dementia and I promised his sons I would protect him from looking bad. If you don’t like me that’s fine. But this is a personal tribute to a great man. John Gubba
