      @Kaia Shea - solitary is a horrible place for anyone to be. Many places, including this prison, have now done away with solitary for juveniles. Sadly, several juvenile prisons still utilize the practice. It's inhumane. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

    I couldn't be a correctional officer. I got to big of a heart I couldnt see kids have to go through this. But it's all about choices. They do need active activities that will better them for when they get out. If they get out. I've been here myself. It's definitely not fun. You don't know how surreal that feeling is when they open that cell door. You truly do feel like a animal being locked up. Some people are just crazy and need to be there. Some just make mistakes. This is so sad to see young men with so much potential turn to the life of crime so early , most of them will be given up on and they’ll commit more serious crimes , but I think being very strict on them now may teach them the lesson and hopefully they’ll turn their early life around and be a productive citizen and live a normal life , I hope and pray these young men get the help and guidance they need.

    This is not a bad kid . He has childhood traumas that makes this kid behave this way . At 14 years old burning an apartment building down because he’s bored just proves that he wasn’t getting the love of attention from his parents if he was raised by them . The pain he is craving is the hurt he’s been through his whole life and it’s all he’s used to . I mentor juvenile delinquents and most never had a fair start at life to begin with . A life we could never imagine but I understand why they commit the crimes they do . No real guidance or mentors , no one positive to look up to for direction in life . I honestly just want to give him a hug and tell him I care about him and he’s important ❤ It’s never to late to change your life around , but locking these kids up does not change their mindset or reality after they get out .

    That unscripted fly-on-the-wall footage at the end was superb. Camera rolling while normal routine and daily activity on the floor occurs. You can see glimpses of the contradictory nature of prison relationships - the enforcement role on one hand, and a sense of camaraderie between staff and juvi on the other. It also gives insight to the mentoring/parenting role that these guards often undertake. Really nice observational stuff, thanks Calamari!

When we tell other ppl how we feel they don’t care, only way for ppl to care is when we do something wrong, bc ppl in this offices asking us questions actually care bout us. And nobody is going to change just to go back home and do it over again like it won’t happen. 💯even going out it’s not that easy to just go have fun, parents don’t know how to communicate with us so they just leave us in our rooms. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I have worked both with adults and juveniles in a correctional facility. This just my experience, the juveniles in the facility was by far the worse to deal with. More important because they all felt they could prove a point and break the rules, after continuing to explain the consequences. The first thing the facility would do is give them medicine because they come in on synthetic drugs. But when you actually spoke to the juveniles and got to know them, I would always see through them and they would say, I’m making a name for myself. Solitary is a punishment and a form to break a individual, whether juvenile or adult.

    As a former Juvenile Corrections Officer and currently, a high school teacher, I can honestly say that it is not the fault of the "system." Most kids are given tons of chances to get it right before they end up in a situation such as this. It literally comes down to their own decisions. I have worked directly with murderers, car thieves, robbers, sex offenders, every level of criminal you can imagine. And it all comes down to the choices THEY make. I have been blessed enough to see some of the young ppl I have worked with turn their lives around, while others CHOSE to continue down the wrong path. It all starts at home, and if the parents and/or guardians can't get it right, this is the end result for many of our youth. There are ppl who are offering help constantly...but a lot of the younger generation is very content with staying stuck. I can only speak from my own personal encounters..in 2 different states, in 3 different professional roles, over the last 12 plus years. I see a lot of ppl saying what "needs" to happen..but what are you actually doing personally to help on your own end?

      @NPX22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I disagree completely. You can't read chapter 5 before you read the first 4. A lot of people will deal with undiagnosed mental health, abuse and neglect, addictions, and losing friends their entire life up until that point. And maybe they don't see "help" like you do. You can only be let down so many times before you tell yourself you the only one that can make yourself get out of whatever your dealing with

    • @lugeniasolomon7817
      @lugeniasolomon7817 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@NPX22 you have every right to disagree. However, I have firsthand helped many young people find their way despite the obstacles they have encountered during Chapters 1-4..so while I value your input, I can only reference what I have experienced with the hundreds of kids I have worked with over the years. I have a special place in my heart for them, and I still have bonds with them to this day. My initial post was referencing the individuals who CHOOSE to continue down the wrong path for themselves. I have seen both sides of the spectrum. I have served as Teacher, Mentor, Counselor, and in many cases, the only adult who they felt cares or could be trusted. And, I am thankful for the success stories of the young folks who have evolved past their setbacks. But, it's time that we as a society stop making excuses for ppl's actions and figure out ways together to provide help and solutions. I have friends and family who work with youth programs to help, etc. Peace and blessings to you, and thank you again for your thoughts!

      @@NPX22 I disagree to.. Mental ilness is the real problem.. We have a 100s of thousands of kids suffering from poverty growing up sick parents strung out on drugs etc.. Its corruption.. Literally designed by white folks.. You cant just tell a kid make your own decisions in that condition.. They are victims of just being alive at this point.. I grew up in the ghetto the survival instincts you need to make it completely go against the regular civilized world. They are not eating right experiencing reality correctly nothing.. Its literally like a dead end for the kids coming out the projects an these poor areas with no opportunities or jobs an terrible school systems.. Its not a bad kid thing its a your a victim of mental an emotional abuse inside the community thing. Most survival instincts just to even make it out are self destructive in the real world.. Now you have a full grown young adult with no shot behaving dysfunctional with no communication skills or anything... So they lock them in a cage an say we kept giving them decisions .. In the normal world if a persons child is sick or has mental issues they get the correct help an love around Bradley immediately. Some say that they deserve to be in there, but I have a little homie who just came from this type of facility, nd he didn't really do anything, nothing violent but his mom is a meth addict, dads not around, his sister is on drugs, little brother followed his foot steps, his grandma kiccs him out all the time, so sometimes they end up getting caught stealing for food, getting caught past curfew or drinking/smoking to cope with not having a functional family.. I always showed him love, I tried to be that big brother to him but at the end of the day, he wants his family. I always gave him a spot to sleep or just gave him company, go swimming nd walking out pits nd boxing, love him like a little brother, he recently got shot in the chest nd is still in the hospital. Some of these kids just need love.. Praying for my boy right now... So before you judge nd say they need to be there, understand that there's alot more behind to what got them there. Most of y'all speaking on things you never experienced or been around, typing on you 1000 dollar phone from your gated community..
