There's a better onw of an Apache attack chopper crashing after hot dogging over troops from like 14 years ago. Also I have watched this video many times and the reporters just don't watch that the main rotor blades tit first and the chopper hits bottom to ground not tail first.
Is it possible that the aircraft managed to lose it's hover cushion. That's why the helicopter crashed in the binLanden raid. Luckily the pilot recognized what was occuring and immediately set the bird down. DFC for the action
What happened is that when the pilot pulled up on the collective, it changes to the pitch of the blades to create lift. This also slows the RPM of the rotor blades. The throttle governor will add power from the engine to maintain the rotor head speed. What occurred here was the engine didn’t have the power to give. That’s why you can literally see the blades start to slow, losing lift, airframe yawing, and descending. My theory is that the airframe wasn’t rated for the high altitude and the engine couldn’t produce the power that was needed
@@chigurh8947I think the pavehawk is most definitely certified for this rescue but things just didn't go to plan. Pavehawks are Blackhawks on steroids
The people, I think it's the crew chiefs gets thrown out of the chopper as it rolled down was horrible. They were rolled over by the chopper. Imaging the horror. I hope they survived.
It's call ground effect. With heavy down draft from top of the mountain. The controlled crash and how it occurred was controlled well was challenging conditions but probably the worst for the patient two accidents.
20 years!? I remember watching this live when I was makin' pizzas at my college job.
Yeah I'm finding that hard to believe myself. This sticks in my memory as I watched it live; had no idea it's been that long now.
Yes...yes...time goes by so quickly.
Where did you go to college?
I remember watching this happen live at the training north station, not knowing how badly injured our firefighters were at the bergschrund.
This might be one of the best footage of a helicopter crash... That's insane!

The snow made that roll tolerable.
Luckily everyone made it out okay!
