This was great, I have been researching "where do you find a vin number on a boat trailer?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Siyichael Mysterious Smasher - (do a google search )? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for discovering how to get a cheap boat title report minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cousin got cool results with it.
Informative video! I am about to buy a trailer but the seller said his is home made and never had it registered. I also live in Florida and he told me all I need is to get it weighed and I’ll be fine.
I just registered a boat last week and they told me that if I used one of my spare plates I would lose the fee if I wanted to put back on a car. Dunno. Since trailer tags are so cheap, pay the extra few bucks. I'm in Pinellas County.
Great video I just purchased a homemade trailer from a previous owner that did not think to actually have it registered not giving a crap that he was towing an unregistered trailer. Now I know to have it weighed before I go to my local tax collector. Does this also work for personal watercraft with a an electric motor ?
Great video, very helpful. I just moved to FL from NJ and brought a home built utility trailer with me with expired NJ plates, no registration and no title. It's well under 2000 lbs so all I'll need is to register it but how can I go about getting a FL plate for it? Thanks!
Hey bud your video was very useful and I noticed you live in Roseland I live in Brevard county on 192 and I just built an open 4x8 utility trailer and need to use it ASAP!! It's definitely under $2,000 lb so all I need to do is take it to a weigh station have it weighed and then take that to my tax collector And they will be able to register it? I don't think I have an extra tag so I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to pay the 75 for a tag but I just wanted to check and see it's as simple as that if it's under $2,000 correct?
So a friend who just bought a property here in Florida is giving me a rolling chassis from a torn down old camper trailer left by the previous owners decades ago so no papers whatsoever. I wanna fix it up and eventually build it as a teardrop camper or something like it. My questions to anyone who knows are; Do I weigh & register it first as a home built utility trailer/chassis and then do it again once I'm done building the camper on top of it Or do I only register it once? If only once, is it before or after the whole build is completed? Thanks y'all!
I would register it as a utility trailer first, because if your teardrop is over 2000 lbs you will have to title it and you don't own that trailer yet. register it as a utility under 2000 lbs to establish ownership, then build your teardrop and re-title as a camper when you are done.
Ok, so I'm pretty much done cutting it shorter, welding some 2" square tubing to make it a bit wider, adding new fenders, wheels, new light kit, and primed ready for painting. My question is, do I have to put flooring before going to the weighing scale or the current "bare metal" frame will do?
What all do you need on a trailer to be legal? I just want to buy a 6'×9' trailer but wasn't sure what all I needed. Brake lights, turn signals, license plate, license plate light, reflector tape, etc.
First and foremost very helpful. I have been round and round with Tax Collector Office and DMV‘s trying to get help. My question is this I have a store-bought trailer and have the receipt for it. I am wanting to build a camper on top. Do you know steps for getting that registered in Florida? Is first step getting trailer weighed just as is or should I go ahead and build the camper on it then take it to get weighed as a complete unit and then go to tax collector for registration? I will have certificate of origin(receipt of trailer purchase) weight slip before and after if needed? It is tear drop style, tiny tiny. Total weight approx 500 lbs including trailer and camper. It is 12’ long including hire h, 5’ across and maybe 8’ height. Hopefully someone can help me! Please and thank you…
I have a Question for you I live in Atlanta Georgia I bought a 6 by 8 trailer from a Guy I went to the tag office and I had the title with me however they see I need a bill of sale however I cannot catch up with the guy what would you recommend so I can get my tags for the trailer thank you
Thanks for the info, please make sure you get rid of that trailer home wheels, they are very unsafe for daily use, specially if you take heavy loads, that wheel is made of a garbage cast iron that can easily crack, it is meant to be used for probably moving trailer homes within yards? This trash almost killed me on highway be safe.
What if it was totaled by insurance and you purchased it back and redid what was broken and modified it can you Call it Home built. Thanks and if no how do you make it legal again
This video did not detail how the weight of the trailer was determined. If you just get the weight of the trailer on its axel(s) that's omitting the tounge weight borne by the hitch. You either need to weigh the trailer alone off the truck, or weigh the truck alone and subtract from the total combined weight.
@@tristenellis1674 just got a scale ticket with the weight and had the scalehouse put homemade on the ticket Went to DMV and my trailer is now registered
Don't shave, you look like a life size buzz light-years. Good video!! To infinity and beyond with that trailer, happy trails

You did a great video man! Full of information

Yes is all you need, did it on Palm Beach County ( Lake Worth)
This is priceless information. Thank you for taking the time and care
What if you need to get a new license plate? What is the procedure for that when registering a trailer?

What about getting a n abandoned title for a trailer?
Does the registration have a vin number? If so where does the vin number come from if it's home made?
same question I have..?
They generate one . Then it has to be stamped on the tounge
Very helpful. Thanks, man.

Hey What’s the procedure and what happens over 2000 pounds. I have a 2700 pound trailer “home built”
I believe if it's over 2000 pounds then the trailer needs to be titled, under 2000 they just need to be registered.
Amazing video! Extremely helpful. Thank you so much!

My question is that did they inspect the trailer ?
You’re supposed to get a 10 day temporary tag from the DMV to transport your trailer to the weigh station.
Thank you for these answers

Where did you get your trailer weighed at? Or would you know a place in Fort Myers area?

So what if I don’t have a license plate to transfer over I’m looking at paying alot?
I believe its only around 32$ for a trailer plate. If you were registering a car tag it would be much more
Thanks for the info, please make sure you get rid of that trailer home wheels, they are very unsafe for daily use, specially if you take heavy loads, that wheel is made of a garbage cast iron that can easily crack, it is meant to be used for probably moving trailer homes within yards? So.. if you don't have a tag to transfer do you pay an extra $200+ dollars?? WTF I have a 180lb jet ski trailer..
Wouldn’t you have to get the frame stamped sometime doing the registration period if its home built. If not how is the trailer identified
I documented the whole process for florida. Super simple.
@@dosomethingeveryday2767 what? He asked about it being stamped...aka vin number?
@@DJ-ym2yj you don’t have to have it stamped if it’s not titled. It’s simply a transferable registration. That’s why it’s not in the video.
Will it be the same process to register a tow dolly with Bill of sale from the seller?
Bro this is awesome!!! Thanks!
Did they assign a VIN?

Does anyone know how to do this in Texas? 😗

The vehicle weight is on the driver side door jam, decal.
Colorado? Anyone try it?
cool info 👍🏾
Did you have to have insurance?
Not for trailers you aren’t required to
So u got it registered the same day
thankyou
Thank you for this video 5 stars
Kevin Esses did you try this?

If the trailer is over 2k lbs, you have to pay the $70 for a title?
What about vin#!!!????
Thank you very useful
Thanks bud!
Thanks! I went to my dmv in FL and The guy(ASS) in the booth told me YOU CAN'T DO THAT....What a Jerk!
