  • The fight to save Australia's endangered species.
Australia boasts a stunning array of unique wildlife. They feature on our coat of arms and they're placed front and centre in our tourism campaigns. But the reality is, many of our native animals are in danger.
Australia has one of the worst extinction rates on the planet and the problem is growing. There are currently more than 500 animal species under threat.
Four Corners investigates how Australia has found itself in the midst of an extinction crisis.
There is heated debate over who is responsible and what lengths governments should go to, to save these threatened species.
Four Corners goes into the field with leading scientists and conservation volunteers to document first hand the fight to save these wild creatures. Our camera captures precious pictures of some of these endangered animals.
With money in short supply, many rescue efforts are reliant on volunteers and crowdfunding.
Ecologists say these species are just as priceless as a work of art and should be protected in the same way.
They warn that species extinction will have consequences for us all.

Hope the ABC does a follow up piece on the development application process, especially the Environmental Impact Assessment and its objectivity, this needs to be done by the assessing agencies and NOT someone who is engaged by the developer. This is an important issue as if the development is allowed, it could set a dangerous precedent for other areas. It is possible to conserve our flora and fauna but any losses and extinctions must rest with the governing bodies, especially the State and Federal Environment ministers who must be made accountable.

Gardeners must plant indigenous plants that sustain the wildlife. Whole communities must participate in this practice.

How can you tell when a politician is lying? Their lips are moving!

  • @NxDoyle

This is the kind of issue that the expression 'political lip service' could have been invented for. There's nothing here for politicians to trade on. It's all expense and no reward, as far as they're concerned.

When there are laws protecting non native animals what else do you expect.
Our highland rivers are dominated by trout an introduced species. There are 4 native fish on the mainland that are affected by trout, which are more aggressive and out compete for food and breeding sites not to mention predation on native species. But laws protect the trout.
Unfortunately not enough attention is paid to our native fish and their part of the environment.

We all understand the value of every part of our body for our continuing health, though we ignore the value of every part of our earth for its continuing health upon which we depend. This is everyone's responsibility.

While we have a system that places no value on threatened species while alive and an indirect value on their death, ie, dollars procured through forestry's destruction of habitat leading to the extinction of threatened species, then nothing will change. What is the value of jobs and their wages when their is nothing left to buy?

I have a solution that just might work. For real. Im not being funny.
    Operation Garden Park.
    1. The purpose of Operation garden park is to provide training to our soilders and remove feral pests from Australia. Using
    A) Infantry with all their gear
    B) Bushmaster assualt vechiles
    C) ASLAV
    D) Attack Helicopters
    E) wildlife experts
    F) Mini mog trucks
    2. Operation managment.
The purpose of the operation is to use the militarys weapons ie F88 AUS Styer rifles F89''s ect to hunt down an kill feral cats, foxes, cane toads, pigs, camels, rabbits ect. As we as a Nation do not give our army adaquete targets to kill. They need experience actually dealing death.
The Bushmasters an Aslavs will patrol empty stretchs of road an gun down Any Kangaroo who is a risk to vechiles. Preventing road related fatalities.
The Attack helicopters will use its 25mil cannon with explosive shells to hunt down an kill pigs, an camels.
The wildlife experts will monitor populations an make sure that control is being managed.
    3. Populations will be warned ahead of time before the military will take control of the environment an destroy any feral pests. An introduced species.
This operation will servelly damage an destroy pests in Australia an give our young men an women real hunting an killing training that will keep them alive in battle.

What an adorable creature! What makes me feel good is the fact that all of these creatures will be saved by the hand of our Creator...as he "saves all the works of mine hands". Hopefully these good people will be able to protect the wildlife in Australia which is so rich in its varied animal and bird life.

    • @rememberingme983
      @rememberingme983 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Your feeling good comes from a mere idea of some external overlord that does not exist. The creator is you, and without taking responsibility for this there will be no saving. All the works are of your hands, and it is only with those that any saving is accomplished.

These extinctions are all signs that we are in The End Times Tribulation.
Zephaniah 1:2 I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the Lord.
3 I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord.

Unfortunately for loggers there are so many endangered possums, that there's nowhere in the southern hemisphere's largest forest, that you can cut logs safely away from endangered possums. Except, of course, you're an Andrews affiliated operation, shipping logs to China for Cheap.

Australia human population density 3.1(three point one), Tasmania human population 7.6(seven point six), Europe human population density average 146(one hundred and fourty six).
Unless this is a global effect I don't see how humans are responsible.
