Editor’s Note concerning OECC
Editor’s note: This Four Corners episode reports on Australian universities having large and increasing intakes of international students and concerns about many students not having sufficient English language skills to undertake their study. In reporting on those issues, the program referred to Overseas Education & Career Consultants Pty Ltd (OECC) which assisted international students in enrolling at Australian universities. In response to concerns raised by OECC about the program, Four Corners wishes to clarify that the program was directed at the conduct of Australian universities in waiving English language requirements for international students. The program’s criticism was not directed at OECC. The program was not seeking to convey that OECC had waived those requirements, nor that OECC had been selling offer letters from universities.
Since the broadcast of the program, OECC has contacted the ABC and provided the following statement: “OECC has never engaged in any form of unethical and/or dishonest practice, and has always acted in the best interest of Australian Universities and international students.
